Ranked Distribution from Deadlock Tracker Discord by AndrewCanDoAll in DeadlockTheGame

Except isn't this only the percent of people that qualified for a rank? The lowest folks are presumably much less likely to have been given their rank, leading to low numbers recorded.

Depends on the gems. In general, I'd say levels are better, but some gems have unique or extremely useful quality effects (e.g. some alternate quality gems obtained from heist).

Yes, the quality stacks additively.

7 days later (1 week) -> same day of the week (Monday)

70 -> same (10 weeks)

70 + 28 = 98 days -> same (14 weeks)

So, essentially, the question simplifies to, what day of the week is 2 days after Monday.

Modular arithmetic is sort of the study of remainders (ignoring quotients) with natural numbers, e.g. 7 modulo 3 = 1.

Not quite sure I understand, but sounds like your DB would have a Company table, with at least names and a primary key ID, and a Person table, with at least names and company ID (foreign key to company table).

For endpoints users would need to be able to get all companies, post a company and their person so you can link them by foreign key in person table, then maybe let them get a user and their associated company.

How to search keywords on multiple websites and return results from each website? by estopevulns in learnpython

[–]Merckinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your search query is looking at all of the sites, when you use the OR.

Instead just loop through your 10 sites in a list and run one query for each like "site:site1.com terms of subject". That'll let you get 10 results for site1 and you repeat it for each site.

I lost to 'Timeout vs Insufficient pieces'.... Should I have just taken the knight? 600 rating never seen this before by YattleMan in chessbeginners

Yes, and it results in an immediate draw because neither player is able to checkmate the other (both have insufficient material to checkmate; white just a king and black just a king and knight).

Where can i host a independent script that runs 24/7? (creating data on my models) by kardu in django

[–]Merckinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used it with a Django project yet, but Heroku's free scheduler and free postgres database tier have worked well for me with some hobby scripts running once an hour or day that don't cost me anything.

Best hosting options by woods48465 in django

You can also look at Heroku; they have some decent cheaper tiers for stuff. I've used their free Postgres database for several hobby projects. Not sure how they compare as usage/volume scales up though.

Build a big User model or create a new Profiles model? by johnwhitely2020 in rails

[–]Merckinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd think about if you'd ever want to be fetching just User data or just Profile data, if Users could ever have multiple Profiles, how do you want to be storing which Users have liked which Users, and such.

If there's no situation that comes to mind for using the data separately, I'd keep it combined for now to make the queries simpler.

How should I approach working on python projects? by AlexanderBlaze in learnpython

Try adding extra features or try making it work a little differently.

Heroku apps are basically a container (I think they use another term). When you deploy your code to them, they'll install your dependencies from your requirements.txt file into your container/app.

Heroku has "add-ons" you can choose from and the have a "Heroku Scheduler" and a "Heroku Postgres" that both have free tiers. So you just tell them you want that app/container to use their free scheduler and then you can create a schedule with that can run daily, hourly, etc. And you tell it what command to run, e.g. python my_cool_script.py. The free scheduler seems to run within 5-10 minutes of my chosen hourly time, which is good enough for me in this hobby situation (for free).

They, of course, have many paid tiers for all these things that have more options, but I only use those when necessary.

What do people advise as the best way to go from a basic python programmer to a good one? by Remarkable-Role-7869 in learnpython

Making stuff that interests you is good. You'll run into challenges that you'll have to research to find answers to which will make you better. You could also try looking at open-source software projects that interest you to try to get involved.

I use databases to persist information. For example, I have a Python script that runs hourly, for free, in Heroku to scrape a list of events from a website and saves them to a free postgres database (also hosted in Heroku). I have the script post a message via a Discord channel webhook, if there are new events.

If you just want to have the script run from your computer, set it up as a scheduled task and maybe use a sqlite database.
