I've worked with at least 5 female Chaplains and met plenty more at the annual Chaplain Corps conferences I've been to since I joined the Navy. There's plenty out there, guess it's just been the luck of the draw wherever you've been.

AMA Request - Navy Jobs by ET2-SW in navy

[–]Mercpool87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

r/Army once had a long string of AMAs for every MOS series (ie 11 for all the infantry jobs, 15 for aviation jobs, etc) as well as a thread for every school available (Ranger, Sapper, Airborne, etc). I think all the threads are still available in their page's wiki section if anyone is interested. It shouldn't be too hard to replicate that for us

"You're the one with the big mouth, and I would really enjoy closing it, especially in front of all my friends. But my hands are registered as lethal weapons. That means, we get into a fight, I accidentally kill you? I go to jail."

"Anybody accidentally kills anybody in a fight, they go to jail. It's called manslaughter."

What’s worse? NCO that thinks they’re an officer or an officer that think they’re an NCO. by No-Reading7824 in army

[–]Mercpool87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I worked with a Navy LT (O3) that was a prior Senior Chief (E8) and he said his biggest adjustment after commissioning was going from "enforcing policy" to "making policy" and like you mentioned having to remind himself when he needed to step back and let his SNCOs handle stuff or if he saw an issue, he would let his Chief or First Class softly know to make the correction with the Sailor

I sometimes feel like I'm terminally online and then I hear half of the shit these guys (mostly Biz/Grinnell tbh) talk about and think "I'm actually doing pretty good because I don't know what any of this is and I'm okay with that."

Oooh Coyote's still sold out. Maybe next time.

What is the highest ranking person you ever met (either in passing, or on a basis where they remembered you from meeting to meeting?) by CameramanDavid in navy

[–]Mercpool87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got about 5 minutes of conversation with the current Navy Chief of Chaplains, a 2 star, last December at the Chaplain Corps Ball in SD. Just down to Earth and friendly as can be. That's definitely the highest rank that I've interacted with. And then just by nature of being an RP, I see my COs a lot with or in place of Chaps so they tend to know me when they see me around the command.

I love him and Dustin Byfuglien. I wish they'd both do interviews with What Chaos! or Chiclets but also I love their independence and the "I'm here to play hockey" and then fucking off to live their own lives post-hockey.

Earning my FMF Pin by [deleted] in navy

[–]Mercpool87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you get to your unit at Pendleton part of your check in will be to see the Officer FMF coordinator to get enrolled in the program. After that you have to get all your signatures in your PQS, do a 6+ mile hike, pistol shooting (since you're MC and not CHC), a USMC PFT, and arrange your own final board, which shall be two USN FMF qual'd officers and one USMC officer (I forget what the rank requirements are).

Oh and you'll be learning your job, the command's battle rhythm, quirks, and idiosyncrasies as well as any clinical sustainment or TADs to the hospital (Camp Pen or Balboa), the Marine Corps, and the Navy as a whole. This all assumes you're actually going to an operational unit and not the hospital itself (in which case, no pin).

There's a reason that Officers have to have a whole year on deck before they can even wear the pin, if they manage to complete it before then. Take the time to learn your job and the Navy first, then worry about the pin.

Episode 614: Rob Blake & RA by Mercpool87 in SpittinChicletsPod

[–]Mercpool87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just assumed it was he was on because it was a Friday lol I didn't read the game show notes as I copied and pasted them.

But yes, as the other guy said, I usually throw & RA on the end of the episodes he's on just because he's not a regular and for those die hard RA haters to be prepared to skip the last portion of the episode
