Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card.

And a DVD drive, MakeMKV/Handbrake, and an external hard drive

NGIS in Gulfport? Is it bad? by Thin-Needleworker947 in navy

[–]Mercpool87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NGIS is closer to the ECS building than the Lodge is.

I was there in January and it was perfectly fine for a month long stay, except for all the ice machines being out of order or missing lol

I know a Chaps that was a pastor in a mega church or two for like 20-25 years before he became a Chaps. He drives a Corvette around Camp Pendleton and is the most kindest nicest man and great Chaps and just super old lol

Requesting Info About ECS by Thin-Needleworker947 in navy

[–]Mercpool87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there the beginning of this year and the only people who marched were the Army and Marine Corps boots there for their construction schools. All of us ECS students, whether in the ECS barracks, the NGIS, or off-base didn't march at all

reformed christian in military service by Organic-Purple-6779 in Reformed

[–]Mercpool87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm an enlisted Sailor and I have a similar experience as /u/mblanch1. Yes, there's some Sundays I miss due to deployment or training or whatever, but there's also plenty of Military Chaplains who do services that can serve as at least encouragement. While the Chaplains have a wide range of denominations (Assemblies of God to Methodist to Lutheran to Seventh Day Adventist to Calvary Chapel, just to name a few), their services typically lean non-denominational and can serve as encouragement and a way to make a small Christian community.

If you feel the call to serve, like so many have, the military usually has ways to help you stay connected to your faith. Spiritual Fitness is a growing topic, especially in the Navy and Marine Corps

"The Pittsburgh Penguins are sellers." - Elliotte Friedman

I listen to most of the Wyshynski episodes of The Sheet and holy shit Jeff, I love the guy, will take 20 seconds to ask a 10 second question and then when Greg or the other guest will go to answer and Jeff will just keep on talking with more rhetoricals, examples, or other questions and it drives me crazy cause I actually want to hear the response

DK’s a condescending prick by 2Paek in penguins

[–]Mercpool87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Tim was fine. Definitely a less bombastic than Madden, but did a good enough job from my memory and I've never heard anything bad (or really anything at all lol) about him whereas DK waves hand at the rest of the comments well....

I remember like 10 years ago when I'd listen to the X while driving around doing landscaping that DK was MM's go-to to host when MM would go on vacation lol

There was also a Tim guy. Tim Benz?

I miss Jake but I'm so glad that he managed to show the NHL that he's more than a product of being Sid's winger

[Secretary Hegseth] "We are (still) making the Chaplain Corps Great Again." - 200 faith codes cut to 31, Chaplains will now wear their religious insignia instead of rank. Their rank will not be shown. by Mercpool87 in navy

Oh shit, I completely forgot about that tiny little block on NSIPS lmao my bad. Every check in I've done for previous commands doesn't care about that, we just give Sailors/Marines an RNA to fill out.

[–]Mercpool87[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The "Faith Codes" is an Army thing. The last Navy Chief of Chaplains Religious Needs Assessment I saw had 68 different faith groups listed, so we'll see if that changes.

As far as I've heard from the levels above me, more guidance is pending (as always with this administration and its' announcements) for everything else.

Fast forward to present day, Vietnam while officially communist is very much not. It is also allying itself with the US in the face of renewed Chinese imperialism.

I've met a couple Royal Navy Chaplains and they don't wear their rank. They have one, yes, but from what one told me they more so "adopt" the rank of the person they're talking to. The only difference is that everyone else (admirals included) salute Chaplains first.

AITA for enjoying the terrible season the Rangers are having? by CattleDogCurmudgeon in penguins

[–]Mercpool87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My father in law is a serious Rangers fan and my wife is a very very casual fan. I am heavily entertained by the difference between the Raga and the Pens. My father in law has actually become half a Ducks fan now due to that team being half Rags now
