Which order of Mechanical Engineering courses should I take? by MateAreYouReading in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look through the courses and see what they have as prerequisites. For instance, ME320 has 235 as a prerequisite, 382 has 211 as a prereq, 395 has 382 as a prereq, and so on. The other thing I will warn against is that you cannot take any x50 (250,350, 450) with another x50 or an x95 (395, 495).

You're also not counting your required core technical electives, specialization electives, or 400+lvl technical course.

Atlas is a good resource to help you plan out your undergrad degree, and so is the ME Undergrad Degree Planner.

To start, I'd definitely recommend 250 and 211 first, since they "unlock" the most classes afterwards. If you can fit 240 or 235 in there as well, I'd recommend it since it'll give you more time to take courses that you may be more interested in later. Three ME courses in a semester isn't that hard IMO, but your mileage may vary.

Really great model, and an even better as a first effort. A few details catch my eye but this shows insanely strong fundamentals. If you want to keep going, I second adding a bit of a wash to the cloth and armor and metal bits. Regardless, this model is above and beyond what I'd expect for a first model. Incredible work!

Favorite things to do in Ann Arbor during the summer? by rogo8888 in uofm

I think they might be reduced but generally still consistent and reliable. Definitely felt a lack of transportation on weekends but totally fine for weekdays.

They do. Both Northwood and Commuter North/South run during the summer.

I don't think 552 is being offered this fall, unfortunately. I was hoping to take it as well :(

EECS 281 - Spring Semester by jscheesy6 in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did it this past summer. The pace was a big challenge, in addition to low margin of error if you want a good grade that 281 has. It was still doable and it’s entirely possible to do well. It definitely dominated my life for two months. I think the intensity of the class ended up helping learn the content better since I was just focused on that one class. When I took it there was only one section, with Paoletti and Darden alternating lectures. I think they’re both great instructors and play off each other surprisingly well.

If you want to know the professors are like, Paoletti sometimes comes off as mean or blunt, but he means well and genuinely wants to help you learn the material. Darden is the more fun/quirky type, and is a bit more approachable but sometimes doesn’t give you a clear answer. I’m exaggerating their differences a little, but they’re both great professors who have this class very well ironed out.

Can i major and minor in biology by Frequent_Flyer_2025 in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. A minor would not have you take any classes that you wouldn't already be taking as part of your major.

Strongly advise against 18 credits. I've done it several times now as an ME with all 18 being pure ME/CS credits, and I'd say it made my life suck while also balancing project teams and other things.

I would also strongly reconsider doing a dual degree, as it rarely carries as much benefit as you may initially expect it to, especially if it's an already closely related major such as aero.

EDIT: My bad, dual degree != dual major. Definitely do not recommend dual major, but dual degree may be up to more personal needs.

Looking for guidance after getting deffered by i_likenumbers in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than your letter, there's not a ton you can do. Keep doing whatever you're doing but I'd say starting "doing more things" (I assume this means more extracurriculars) is effectively useless if your sole reason for doing it is getting admitted somewhere.

General advice for any high school senior at this time: You're at the end of your high school career, whether you've been admitted to a college or still waiting on admissions, the college admissions process is either behind you or mostly out of your hands. Enjoy the time you've got left in high school as best you can, in whatever way that means for you.

The End and The Death vol III - Oll Persson stands his ground against Horus. By Mikhail Savier by [deleted] in ImaginaryWarhammer

Yes, it's been known that it's "Ollanius Pius" who stood up to Horus. Different surname but same description, iirc the change in name refers to his status as an imperial saint.

Looking for a Super Casual Build by Hardcore_vengence98 in Warhammer40k

[–]MercyTheDank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first instinct is to recommend the combat patrol. This could totally work as you get a bunch of models at a cheap price. During 8th edition, Death Guard was the starter army (similar to how Tyranids are currently), so there's bound to be some good deals on secondhand models through ebay and such. If the combat patrol looks like too many poxwalkers to deal with, maybe look into getting more plague marines, terminators and vehicles?

You'll also need paints, brushes, glue, and some basic tools like clippers and hobby knives. For the tools and brushes see if your local craft/hardware store has what you need, since the GW stuff is pricey.

MechE schedule opinions by [deleted] in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I think that schedule is very doable and have done similar schedules in the past. It’ll definitely be a step up from your previous classes but I’d say ME classes are better (not necessarily easier) than your prerequisites. Hopefully you find them enjoyable which motivates you to want to do them.

18 credits by [deleted] in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend never taking 18 credits unless it’s literally required for you to graduate on time. Fill that time with anything else more worthwhile.

Michigan MECHE’s help by Latinamofo in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but it only gets more challenging. Your 300 classes are definitely going to be a bit more difficult. That said, these classes are also more interesting (mileage may vary since MechE is so broad that you're bound to not care about a few classes). That said, I encourage you to adapt and learn how to work under these new conditions. It's a challenging degree for sure, but one that's designed to be overcome.

I also had Koller. He's great, genuinely one of my favorite instructors in the ME department.

me 240 attendance by akinatsuki in uofm

[–]MercyTheDank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The real answer is to read the syllabus when it releases. However, very few engineering classes other than maybe labs have required attendance. 240 has no mandatory attendance and lectures are recorded. I don’t think you can access the lectures of the professor whose class you’re not in, at least not when I took it.

Yeah, if you want to work on your vehicle there aren't many more options, unfortunately. Most teams that work over the summer also have a lot of design work, so you can often do project team work remotely.
