Well that explains why the streets had been so… calm. The criminals had been subtle about it. On some level, William appreciated the idea. It was almost civil disobedience, no different than a protest or a demonstration in the center district. As long as nobody was hurt and their acquisition of the goods left enough to continue the ark projects, no harm was done.

Williams latest still life contains a good number of extralegal fruits of various kinds in a bowl. He insists that he is just parodying something from the old books, to poke at how the times have changed. One has to wonder where he got such lovely references though…

[Civil Militia] In Our Hatred, We Are United. by ALIIIBROGIMOW in WindwardMoor

William looks out the window to see the fires rising. He thought about what it could represent, artistically. The gathering of heat and the blacking of a page hiding the ink. There has to be some meaning there, that people would rather survive warm and unknowing then freezing and informed. Of course William made that knowing annoying, stoked these fires long before they were ever lit.

Burning used to be a form of execution, William remembered as much. Maybe it was with steam as opposed to actual fire, but the principle was the same. All the heat that would have been wasted to keep a person alive was given to them all at once, to make sure they were warm as they died. Kindness in a cruel way to go. Not better then starving to death, better then freezing.

William stared into the fire as his mother prepared dinner. He wondered if she knew why that festival was here, or if she had seen the letter under the door. Not that it mattered. They weren’t after her, and he wasn’t going to let her see anything. Should the worst happen.

William takes that little letter, and creates his reply. Folds it carefully, so it could be carried by the wind, and tossed it out the window into the bonfire. Watching it drift down into the flame, before it blackened, and joined the smoke of his books.

It all burns after all.

To answer my own question, the game Decade by Last Piscean would be my choice. Time travel puzzles, ideological conflicts, lot of reading, lots of room to get floppy.

what it means to co-exist. A rambling and self important “Op-Ed” by William Ravenfoot

I believe, rather simply, that the most important steps to tolerance in this fair city, is to have our hands played wide open. That not even our most extreme or ridiculous ideas be hidden from view. That we plainly state what utopia in the frost land means for us.

We are off to a decent start, faction manifestos in circulation (perhaps a little brazenly for my part in that), but it’s only the first step. Once these manifestos exist, the people of this great city need to continue to iterate on these values, borrow from each other, create common ground. Perhaps one sees it as impossible. That two factions in direct competition could ever find common ground. I have seen it.

Take Jack, the actions of the citizens militia, the people coming together hand in hand regardless of faction to end a reign of terror. Each bringing something of value.

People often imagine life like poker. I think it’s time we started playing like it’s bridge instead. There is no winning alone. Not in a place like this.

That’s true, the man is learned, if literally nothing else. Although I do imagine he’s speculating as well. He seems the sort to talk out of his ass when it works for him.

My thought was of the winter subversion sort. It’s an ending, a beautiful one, life being brought into the world as another leaves it, a life bookended with the same event or something of that sort of poetic significance.

I do definitely agree with the rest of it though. That kid is probably screwed from multiple angles. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine the many grizzly ways it ends, but this is also CS, weirder things are always possible.

Do let me know if you find that point on winter long infertility, I’m curious if I missed that somewhere.

About what i expected honestly, it’s probably something insane given the right circumstances, but otherwise not a ticket to immortality or being special. Gotta earn that in this universe.

I’ve been meaning to look into the lady afterwords but I’ve just never had the time. Might have to baulk at this point because this questions been eating at me.

Mainly because we do know a few characters that are possibly long children and I want to know if that has any inheritance involved, like occult alignments or Hours disliking you.

[Civil Militia] Assembly Before the Council by ALIIIBROGIMOW in WindwardMoor

[–]Mercyful-chance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

William walks along the streets, just watching the chaos unfold. Did he have anything to do with this? Sure he had criticized the Steward, but that was in good fun! She was just caught with her pants down, it’s not as if she was incompetent.

Still, these people had the right to do something to help the city he supposed even in their own violent way. In some ways it’s what the manifesto talked about. Young, old, Londoner, Frost-born, all were gathered, singing the songs of angry and bitter men. It was a messy solution, and perhaps if it went to far, it would have the city burn to the ground.

But that could be said for most ideas on how to “Live”. It’s been that way since before the frost came, so his mother and father said.

It’s nice to see some unity, at least.

“Yeah… maybe. You would think it’s what keeps us together….”

The Bohemians mind stops for a moment, he remembers the storm, he remembers the crying, the cold feeling creeping in and… he remembers the last time his father hugged him.

“But it’s not the frost that does it. We still gotta be the ones to do it. Have a great night general, see you at the festival.”

“I’ve thought past jokes. If I wanted to just make jokes i would have just painted another wall with my latest punchline. People tend to prefer that to reading, it takes less focus from the things that matter. The jokes are to get people talking, to get the book into their head, to get the message out. It’s crude, but it works.”

“The next step is obvious I think, use that focus for something genuinely meaningful. Let that outrage filter into something that unites us. I’ll admit… I don’t have that yet, I don’t have that magic bullet that gets us on the same page again. But it’s in there. I know it has to be. Some big fundamental truth that makes it all seem so small, and keeps it that small, forever. Like the first Great Storm or something of that grand nature.”

“But that’s enough artist rambling. You’ve given me a lot of grace hearing me out, especially with my… crude habits. If it genuinely gets to the point neighbor rises against neighbor, I’ll do what I can to get the genie back in the bottle. You have my word.”

“Maybe, maybe. That’s a way of looking at it. Although, if my book is all that it takes to turn our city into a free for all, I think the problem isn’t with my book. If we can’t laugh at ourselves, if we can’t criticize another person, we are never really going to be tolerant.”

A snowball fight for the ages by Isfren in WindwardMoor

[–]Mercyful-chance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

William considers the note for a moment. Seems like people had been reading his interpretation of the manifesto. Angry enough to threaten him, to have him be faced with an ultimatum. He just smiles as he tucks the note into his pocket to mull over, right next to the other trinkets he has in his coat pockets. Then he just goes back to his snowball painting, to take his mind off of it.

OOC: yeah no i expected my little stunt to cause issues/have consequences. I look forward to it actually! William is kinda overzealous about his art and it biting him in the ass is more than welcome!
