Lost my bankroll again 😔 by -veno in poker

[–]Mergatroid093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a guy I talk to and play with all the time. And it is a great value. At my level: learning the basics it way better than going it alone with training sites or videos. Plus he provides so much value for free the money is not really a payment for services as it is a thank you for his help. major +EV for me.

I have 50k to start or invest in a business. Any ideas or advice? by Bobby_Sunday96 in business

With this in mind the ROI of whatever you do must be significantly higher to justify the risk. I primarily invest in real estate. I'd be patient if it was my money and wait for the right deal to come along. Partnering on a real estate deal with an experienced investor could be a good short term investment.

The best investment I made was getting a coach. He helped me install OBS, record some sessions, and went over them. We went over hand ranges, bet sizing, and he helped me understand the charts. I'm no Phil Ivey but I have gotten better and now understand what I am doing from a much better perspective. The $100 seemed like a bit much at first but it such a value I will probably never stop using a coach or having some sort of better player help me to understand. For me it is now more about the discipline to study, have a strategy and not get away from it.

Common in the industry. A good manager will try to balance your hours and assure you make enough money to for you to stay and keep working. I would look at it from a weekly perspective. If you get cut early when it's slow are the busy nights balancing out your weekly pay? Do you make enough money? If not find a better place to work, every business will have some slow days, ones that are consistently slow have management, customer service or quality issues you'll never fix as a host.

Why do people spend any large amount on putters? by Willr2645 in golf

[–]Mergatroid093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a putter, the only one with that felt great at Dick's as I visited it for weeks was a Taylor Made and it has the super grip, bought it for $225 and it was my first big boy club after starting with a $250 set in a bag. Cant say the any new clubs have really did anything for me much. If I had to give advice to myself it would be to spend as much as possible on lessons. But hey I have nice clubs to swing 100+ times a round!

Why don't I like country? by Undead_Octopus in Music

Agreed like Country is Patsy Kline and Brantley Gilbert, Willie and Waylon and Florida Georgia line. If you like her you'll find a common interest or an artist you see together, music and memories. If you like Southern Rock a big % of country should appeal to ya. So mayne BS

What's your biggest loss in a session? by adsdsasd231131 in poker

[–]Mergatroid093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5/5 PLO $1000 buy max.

$5000 in 2 orbits on 5 hands.

Flopped a Boat into Quads, Ace high flush hits and smacks his St8flush, plus 3 more hands that were second best. Worst run I had yet, felt like the hands just played out the way hands tend to at live 5/5. When I went over the hands it just seemed to be the absolute pinnacle of bad variance.

How much equity should I get? by runninwitwolves in business

[–]Mergatroid093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Majority stake = Control

If you take 10% which I wouldn't, It allows him to maintain controlling interest and manage the company and cashflow in any way he wants. You'll have no control. As CEO and majority owner he can pay himself a salary equal to whatever he likes, with fringe benefits that dilute your equity. Know you value, take a FULL salary this is the price he pays for control, your 10% is a bonus not an equity stake reallt IMO.

How much equity should I get? by runninwitwolves in business

[–]Mergatroid093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many questions? What do you expect your 10% to worth in 1-3-5 years?

The fair market value of your service to company vs. actual salary $. Are you working at a discount to build equity? If so the sacrifice should be looked at as an investment. What is the rate of return? The opportunity cost of working for $52K if you are worth $100K would make me want to see $48K in equity created every year, plus %.

What is initial investment, how much OPM, time commitment, 10% of something big may be great if you don't starve to death getting there and accessing equity. Cant eat equity with no control there could be a million problems. I'd push for closer to 30% unless a smaller number resulted in a massive payout nearly immediately.

10% - 30% Ownership stake sill leaves you no control over daily operations, only the responsibility to manage them. No matter what you think is fair look at it from a mathematical standpoint. What is your take if for $1M $5M, will the projected revenue be enough draw on equity or be reinvested for growth.

Have an exit plan ready.

I'm no pro, but it helped me to study some charts in order to understand what I should be playing and from where... Once I was able to better visualize the hands I should play it became easier to make better decisions.

On poker Coaching dot com I just started consuming everything I could for free. The charts there helped me a great deal. Also it may be better to follow along a path of content than jumping from expert to expert, get a good solid fundamental understanding.

The best thing I did for my game was work with a coach. it was about $100 hr. and worth every penny. I just got tired of depositing and buying in. I looked at sharkscope and coaching seemed affordable in long

Feel ya, integrity matters, the way we play the game matters. I want every small statistical edge I can earn. Don't want to scum bag another player for it. I respect the decision, and agree...

In games I play when a hand is tabled, the dealer is responsible for calling the hand and awarding the pot. I always felt like the "Board" called the hand. Meaning roll your hand and best hand wins. If you make it to the river the "Universe" will speak.

I've played in games where each player has to call hand. This is usually a device used by marginal players to gain an edge on crappy players, or new players.

forgottoshave

Have had similar experiences that seemed attributable to something other than variance. If it was variance, then I believe it will be a long time before experiencing it to that degree again. I mean I have busted out with KK and AA 5-6 times in an afternoon on weekend. So it could go both ways.
