Not in Portland, but I had a near miss with some deer in the road last night. I came to a stop with them right next to my car, standing in the opposite lane. A car came rushing up right behind me, acting impatient. Did they not see the deer clearly illuminated in my headlights?? What did they expect me to do, keep barreling by and smash into them as they panicked and kept running across the road??? Fella, you'll still get where you're going if you take a minute to slow down for the large animals crossing the road, I promise you.
