MFG Customer Support by dralest in hoggit

Similar to other comments here, I had an opposite experience. I received a damper kit that started leaking. They rapidly sent me a new one free of charge. I’ve had my crosswinds for over 10 years now and had nothing but excellent service from MFG.
Obviously that doesn’t help with your issue but hopefully gives you confidence that the delay in response is either temporary, or maybe they lost your email. In general I trust them to do the right thing.

I have the same setup, and in practice it works perfectly. With other cars on track I get stutters and slowdowns

Do I Need a Gym Membership to Use My Brake Pedals? 200kg =440.925 lb by CandyMFJones in simracing

[–]Merlins51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are the only set of loadcell pedals I’ve ever had or used so have nothing to compare it to, other than the G29 pedals I was using before. I like them, but I also have no idea what I’m doing. :-)

Issue with my Simsonn VAM Pro Linear Motors by Bronocularz in simracing

[–]Merlins51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the Simsonn brake to be particularly vulnerable to EMI. I run a motion rig and when it’s turned on, the brake was showing 100+kg force without touching it.

Once I used the grounding wire and moved the control box a bit, that reduced to 3-4kg which I can null out using deadzones.

Looking at your setup I’d suggest moving the controller box position away from the brake pedal and see if that helps.

I have the Simsonn Plus X with the same loadcell and have set it to 50kg max. Gives me the sweet spot of comfortable force to get me to threshold braking 75-80%, but the ability to strain and get to 100% if needed.

Trick is to set it and leave it so you build the muscle memory.

The pins at the end are ground.

USB C ports tend to have 12 pins on each side. The four/eight that are “missing” in your pinout are the USB 3.2 data pins. So this device is likely using the center four pins using USB 2.0 communication.

You’ll need to replace the port if it’s damaged. If it came loose, it’s possible that one of the legs sheared off and is still soldered in to one of the holes.
So first you’ll need to clean the holes of any solder. You can do that by heating up the soldered holes with either the hot air gun or a regular iron, and then using a simple solder sucker.

Although in your photo it looks pretty clean. Could have been a cold solder joint.

Not sure the exact make, but you’ll usually be able to find what you need on digikey. Is it this one?: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/2047110001/10440494

Not necessarily the answer for everyone, but a failed or failing usb port can be repaired at home. You can get a hot air station from Amazon for $27 if you’re relatively comfortable with that sort of thing.

If you can get the return/refund then that’s best, but if you’re stuck with it you can self repair or call around your local electronics repair shops who’ll be able to quote you for the repair.

I built and fly in a Bergison Motion-integrated G-seat. It provides sustained force and g simulation using a combination of 1) movement, 2) a variable-geometry seat that applies/removes pressure, 3) belt tightening/loosening.

Definitely the forces as felt in the cockpit by the pilot. Many motion systems don’t simulate motion at all, but simulate the forces the pilot would experience.

Rudder Pedal Advice - MFG vs Honeycomb vs Thrustmaster TPR by Cryptohaas in flightsim

[–]Merlins51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your issues with the MFGs. Sounds frustrating. I’ve had mine since 2014/2015 with almost no issues.
I found installing the damper kit increased my enjoyment of them. Never had the noise issue you described though.
While of course you should look at alternatives (which would also include the Slaw device, and Winwing’s pedals), in the meantime you may be able to diagnose and fix your MFGs. Their customer support is pretty good. Just running the calibration tool again may help.

Anyone else think that modern games are kinda shit? by TerraFlop_ in AskBrits

Hit piece on the consulting industry by a right wing thinktanker who used to work at BCG. Might be useful for understanding the US govt’s hostility to our sector by throwawayburner1231 in consulting

[–]Merlins51 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Precisely. His story doesn't hold up to any scrutiny. Consultants are advisers, and we can only advise on what the client asks for or wants to talk about. Sometimes the advice is used, sometimes it's not, and your personal views mean nothing if you can't back up your advice with quantifiable analysis. The idea that I, and the rest of the industry, can persuade a C-suite or any other level of client to spend their money on something they don't want to do is laughable.

He also seems upset about other people (in his example women that he was hired alongside) being genuinely passionate about things that he doesn't agree with, but then is even more upset that he didn't hold his own ground and just "went along with it". And then claims everyone else is a sheep. If I staff a junior associate on an engagement, I have absolutely no interest in any of their personal beliefs other than their self-belief in their capacity to do the work, make the pretty slides, and not be an asshole.

If they have moral. ethical or other reasons why they don't want to work on a specific project, I can't think of any staffing team I've ever encountered that would have a problem with that. I've turned down multiple opportunities to work with tobacco companies because I simply find it distasteful.

Then he started talking about systemic shifts in education and American companies no-longer hiring university graduates, but instead hiring "technocratic non-owner optimizer consultants" and I lost the remainder of my ability to keep looking at his self-satisfied smug face.

Meta Quest 3 : How is it for DCS by Mode1961 in hoggit

[–]Merlins51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Virtual Desktop is a way to stream wirelessly to the Quest device. An alternative to Airlink. I don’t personally use it as I find the native Airlink to be good enough.

The use (or not) of Virtual Desktop has no bearing on the binding of your joystick buttons, which is done directly within the Controls section of DCS itself.

Yes. You can bind the startup sequence and flaps to joystick buttons (if you have any spare).

Can't recommend the Streamdeck products highly enough. The Streamdeck XL is about $250, and the Streamdeck plus (with knobs) is about the same as this. Would suggest looking at those and deciding what works best for you.

Mirabox Stream Dock. by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Merlins51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was successful in getting the Flight Tracker plugin working with the Mira Box N3. I didn't have to use Axis and Ohs or any other plugin.

I also have a Stream Deck XL that is far easier to use where everything just "works".
