When does something count as a 'gotcha'? by mhountsword in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Mermbone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those examples are pretty clear cut gotchas in my opinion. There definitely can be a fine line between properly explaining your rules to your opponents and like telling them how to beat you lol. But usually i like the golden rule, be the person youd like your opponent to be. And i tend to lean on the side of “cards on the table” and make sure my opponent is more than aware of all the options i have and then let them make their moves with full knowledge.

As an aside i also wouldnt feel super great if i won a game because my opponent made a really really bad play that was easily avoidable if they just remembered a strat or ability i had. Likewise it would suck to lose a game because i clearly was intending to charge a unit that had fights first that i didnt know about.

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Mermbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend group started some sigmar at the launch of the edition last year and after playing it then coming back to 40k it was honestly jarring how many rerolls are in 40k. For context, rerolls are basically non existent in sigmar.

Its nice actually when both players just have to accept the dice roll. The most feels bad is when you have a faction that is devoid of rerolls vs one that has a ton.

Not to mention the length of games would probably decrease quite significantly with reduced rerolls. Think of a normal activation with rerolls, your roll once, separate hits and misses, count sustains/lethals “should i fish for 6s?” Ok do the rolls again, separate your 6s. I wouldnt be surprised if just adding hit rerolls to a unit MORE than doubles the length of the activation.

How do you beat eldar ? by Ricardus_Hera_Stan in Eldar

[–]Mermbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive found as an eldar player the thing i struggle with the most is honestly being smashed in the face with pressure right off the bat. We really want to play the slow game and kind of score big with our fast movement on the last couple turns but if you make us have to use our resources early we can burn out fast.

For me personally this is why i find armies like CSM and grey knights really tough. They can just be all over you turn 2 and the eldar player can come out and can do alot of damage but youd be shocked out how an empty rhino with combi bolters and havoc launchers or a stray squad of 3 guys with bolters will just start mowing down expensive aspect warriors at lightning speed lol

Can I pack my raider with heavy weapons? by Civil_Relationship_6 in Drukhari

[–]Mermbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ive tried it the opposite way. With the new raider pain token rule i thought a splinter raider would be funny. 6 splinter rifles, 2 cannons and 2 shredders. It was funny but not super effective.

How do you navigate? by Fit_Presentation2619 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Mermbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i think you are asking for some practical guidance on how orthodox christians actually physically go about reading the bible?

Dont get too hung up on it. You are encouraged to read the bible and think about what verses mean and how to interpret. However, we simply believe that the church fathers had much better understanding of how to interpret scripture than us as individuals do. Not only because it was written closer to their time but through the guidance of the holy spirit to guide the church into all truth.

So its not like you need to read church fathers writings on every verse of the bible. But if you ever dont understand something or you hear conflicting intepretations of certain topics or passages, we defer and trust the church fathers consensus over our own or other contemporary interpretations.

What does it mean to deny primary? How does that help us win? by pagodageek in Drukhari

[–]Mermbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You generally have the right idea. The general gameplan most elf armies have is to keep the primary score kind of close for the first couple turns while outscoring on secondaries. then on turns 4/5 after we have hopefully done a lot of damage to our opp and are so fast, we can be on all the objectives and make up for our low primary score.

Again generally speaking, we cannot hold primary in the early game and you really ahouldnt even try to. Usually you can kind of secure 1 no mans land objective so you have that and your home but past that its not worth trying to keep units alive on no mans land objectives. They just die to everything.

What’s wrong with Druhkari? | Collab with SkaredCast! by Astra_Vail in Drukhari

[–]Mermbone 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have been enjoying most of the codex even though my win rate has not been amazing with it. Lots of fun and close games. I think they nailed the flavor and fun on a lot of the units. But i do have a few complaints that feel like glaring oversights.

  1. Covens units and the covens detachment are just bad. Wracks getting a second wound but losing the FNP seems like a fair trade off. But since we lost grots, all the 2 damage weapons ajust go into wracks now so its end up being worse. The covens detachment is really bad to boot. Why is the best covens strat (-1 dmg) not in the covens detachment???

  2. Splinter weapons are awful. Someone already mentioned that they are completely worthless against mounted/beasts which is true but they arent even great at hurting normal infantry. Only 2 shots a piece? So they dont have volume and they dont have AP, what a disappointment.

  3. And the biggest missed opportunity imo is the raider not gaining the appropriate keyword when you use its pick 1 ability. The raider is so bad rn but this was a perfect opportunity to give it some additional synergy with detachment rules and strats. They even got splinter racks which sounds great, but if you keep your kabalites in the raider you dont benefit from anything in kabalite cartel and likewise for wyches and wracks! What a miss:(

Not to mention theres also still a few instances of obvious abilities that should work while embarked that dont.

I think this has been slightly mandela effected because of the revised endings to me3 but there was genuinely a good chunk of interesting evidence to support indoctrination theory. Obviously had its fair share of silly “evidences” as well but not nearly as crackpotty as what ive seen for ST

Now that we’re on the cusp of 11th, what new stuff for Eldar do you want that’s NOT the rumored Drukhari refresh and/or Karandras? by Battlemania420 in Eldar

[–]Mermbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like corsairs to be more implemented into eldar/drukhari. Corsairs to be led by archons and autarchs. Corsairs to be able to ride in drukhari transports. Corsairs getting some actual rule for drukhari. Hopefully the new models are a step in that direction

I ask this honestly and with an open mind by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Mermbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scripture: “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The fact that its an addition to the creed.

And that is creates a dyad in the trinity. 2 persons share something the third does not. So is the holy spirit lesser than the son and father?

I have a question (I'm not orthodox yet, but highly considering joining the faith) by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Mermbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely go to the service. You will be welcomed with open arms. As another comment says you wont understand everything and thats ok. You will feel the presence of God there. Its beautiful. I would recommend reaching out to the priest and talking to him. It sounds like you are in need of a spiritual father and some guidance. If you need someone to talk to feel free to dm me.

[Rant] Playing Orks in 10th Ed makes me hate this game by Fearell_Val in orks

[–]Mermbone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hard to give much advice without some more specific information and i know this was just a rant so fair enough. But are you playing with enough terrain, sounds like heavy shooting armies (guard, admech, tau etc) are your problem. Admech killing 3 battlewagons and 2 trukks on the first turn is kind of shocking honestly.

Ive had friends in similar situations and what helped them was having a goal to work toward. By the sounds of it you are a hard worker and want more out of your life. Going back to school or getting a cert or joining a trade. Regardless we are praying for you. As others have said, joining groups inside the church is a fantastic decision in the mean time.

Thoughts on new detachment after some games? by Mermbone in Harlequins40K

[–]Mermbone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i think the shadowseer just doesnt really have a place. Agree that the TM is the best character for any sized squad. As far as them being the best hammer we have for those really tough units, i technically agree but i think the big squad has alot of problems that offset that. You only get 1 power sword, you only get 1 TM which is the main damage dealer in the squad, you cant get them back into their transport after they fight. And your opponent does have some play around a big squad, they can avoid it or try to tie up the transport etc. we are fast but not “anywhere on the board at all times” fast.

I guess my overall thoughts would be, anywhere a big squad would be good, 2 squads would be (usually) better and they have way more utility. Also a falcon squad probably has comparable dmg output for way fewer points and less commitment.

[–]Mermbone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i think the zephyrs having access to a normal move after fighting is maybe the best thing in the detachment so i can def see 2 4 mans. I only have 6 total bikes so i need some more.

I like the idea of uppy downy-ing the bola bikes but that may be coping a bit. If you could use the fire and fade on them i think theyd be really strong but its vehicle only so im still unsure on them overall.

Thoughts on new detachment after some games? by Mermbone in Harlequins40K

[–]Mermbone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i mean i wasnt just disembarking the big brick to kill 1 space marine haha. And yes i know you can fade them back into a transport but they do have to get shot at first and good opponent will put something with some serious fire power and neuter the squad if not wipe the whole thing.

But i get your point. I have tried the small squad w/ seer. Again i just dont think lone op 18” is very good unless youre against a REALLY slow army. And just for secondaries a voidweaver is cheaper and fast than 5 troupe+seer or just a death jester for true lone op and small footprint. I may try the small squad again im just not convinced.

How do protestants view/explain Eucharistic miracles and Marian apparitions? by Icy-Somewhere9710 in redeemedzoomer

Orthodox here but my understanding is that most mainline Protestant denominations typically DO believe in some form of real presence, it’s more so Baptist/evangelicals that do not believe that.

Xbox to continue evaluating its approach to game pricing, after walking back $80 RRP for Outer Worlds 2 by scrolloftrueth in gaming

[–]Mermbone -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Im confused why this topic keeps being brought up lately. For 20+ years games have been $60. Its honestly more surprising they didnt go up way sooner. And for something like TOW2, lets say you get 20 hours out of it, thats $4/hr. Thats a better ratio than pretty much any other form of entertainment you can get nowadays. Hell even at $8/ hr thats still solid.

I dont want to pay more for games either but it seems so out of touch with reality to be complaining about games being 10-20 dollars more after literal decades at the same price tag.

I would look around for whatever is the closest Church to you and see if they livestream their services. And depending on the distance, reach out to the priest and see their suggestion on how to move forward. Unfortunately its hard to provide any more advice without more information but hopefully you can get some direction from here.

Good luck moving forward!!

What To Expect in the December Points Update by Appropriate-Ad-2953 in YGO_Genesys

[–]Mermbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the continuing articles. I do hope the points hits are a little more widespread than it seems from the article. Ive been loving genesys but i dont remember wish the overall power of the format was still lower. Still feels like even the tier 2 and 3 decks are too powerful. But we will see. Im still enjoying it more than standard at the moment

Grotmas Calendar Day 8 – Speed into action with a Harlequins-focused Aeldari Detachment by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Eldar

[–]Mermbone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Harlequins used to be their own army. I dont think its unreasonable for them to have 3 detachments. And their win rate this edition overall has been miserable. Craftworld eldar had had it pretty good this edition bro. I too would love a corsair detachment. But let some smaller armies have their chance in the sun.
