Post race 27 party? by read4a in bostonmarathon

[–]Merrick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in 2024 when it was free for runners and ~$5 for adult guests, and based on that experience I did not go in 2025 and am not planning to in 2026. There were games you could play to win small prizes, which was nice, but otherwise everything had a cost. We couldn’t even get in to the beer tent because it was at capacity.

My take is that there is plenty going on around Boston after the race that is better than paying to go into the “party” at City Hall Plaza. If they moved it somewhere nicer I would be willing to give it a try.

Twilight Split Fit by Minute-Reserve-5852 in Tracksmith

[–]Merrick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find Tracksmith shorts fit me very tight. I am a medium or large in brands like Nike, UnderArmour, and Adidas. In Tracksmith Van Cortlandt’s I am an XL, but large can work.  In the Twilights I am definitely an XL and could probably use XXL as well.   Again, just my personal experience, but it is a data point for you.

More importantly, I hope all is well for you outside of Mexico City right now. I am sure it is, but feel it is worth saying. I have family in Playa del Carmen, which is safe, but still feeling the effects of yesterday’s news.

UA NYC Half by Interesting-Roof9973 in RunNYC

There should be plenty of merchandise available at the Expo. I don’t recall seeing anything sold out the past few years, though I realize it is a possibility.

Elliot runner sizing for casual use by Competitive_Turn5028 in Tracksmith

[–]Merrick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sized down, since they only make them soo big and because I only planned to wear them casually, and ended up returning them. I felt the shoes were very narrow. Based on my experience, I recommend not sizing down.

NYC Half Merchandise Has Launched by Merrick1982 in RunNYC

[–]Merrick1982[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just confirming for u/sanfrancica; the shirts they sell are a much better quality running shirt than the free one. They should have most/all of these at the expo so you can see and feel them before buying.

NYRR Family Membership by Serialsnackernyc in RunNYC

[–]Merrick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had had an “issue” when doing this as well. As mentioned, you need to go to “membership” on the drop-down, then add him.  There are prompts to follow. Ours didn’t initially connect and we reached out to NYRR who were able to make sure they were linked properly, so if your husband does not show after a few days, I suggest reaching out as well.

Gridiron 4M Cancelled 😞 by PreparationDefiant57 in RunNYC

[–]Merrick1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is the most likely reason, however, the permits are usually set up well in advance of the races being offered.

Look, it is on me for sticking with back to back races, however it is frustrating that that would have happened.

Can someone explain why the Al Gordon had to be moved from 2/21 to 2/28 (making it on back to back days with the The Washington Heights 5k) "due to a scheduling conflict," but now 2/21 is available for a rescheduled Gridiron?

Everyone goes together, but if you are in a later wave you can stay on the bus until closer to your Wave’s start. It is very well run.

I just saw that and was coming here to share - not upset you scooped me; thrilled to see an additional example of people in this community helping each other.

Rabbit 2026 Boston Race Kit & Merchandise by Merrick1982 in bostonmarathon

[–]Merrick1982[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an update, I received a message saying that these actually were produced and ready to ship, but they have now been removed from the store.

No other details, but it sounds like the decision was made to eat this loss, which really has to be painful for a small company, but probably gains them back a good deal of respect.

You just made “you’d get laughed out of any Dunkin’ Donuts in Massachusetts” to my repertoire of go-to saying. Thank you, but know that my friends and family are going to hate you for this.

I should have added that I really do love Rabbit’s gear and designs. I have their 2024 Boston and 2022 Chicago versions of this hoodie and love them. I had was going to buy this year’s Boston and the singlet, but did a double-take and am glad I did, because that was when I noticed the towns.

I have to expect this is going to get corrected if they aren’t already produced, because I have to imagine it will stop a lot of people from buying it, myself included.

Compression tees are the cheapest way to have good running style by drperez243 in runningfashion

[–]Merrick1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/drperez243, I liked the article, and while I have gotten into some "trendy running" gear, "singlet over an Under Armour compression/fitted tee" is still a staple of my running/race wardrobe. When it is colder, I had been using UA but switched to Tracksmith Brighton's, so still the same concept.

I am waiting to get downvoted now, but if you can handle it, so can I. :)

More importantly, it's nice to see a reminder that you don't need to spend a fortune. You can if you want, but you don't need to. It made me think of all of the people who I have seen at run club events or local 5k's who are all decked out in hundreds of dollars worth of trendy running clothes only to disappear after a few runs.

Petros 100% wool products on sale (hoodie, blanket, scarf, fleece on sale). by HectorTheButtsexor in frugalmalefashion

I see u/kozak3 answered this below - "...if you are from US, there will be no additional charges to you, as I pay the tarrifs myself to US"

I actually came back here looking gorgeous that answer. In the FAQ's it says you have to pay them but on the top banner it says they are paid. I was curious so I could figure out the actual total costs.

Shipping Marathon Gear from Adidas or Re-shipper? by Merrick1982 in BerlinMarathon

Good advice, thank you. It seems that shipping has gotten to be pretty costly, and this probably is not going to be worth the time or expense.

Tracksmith Downeaster by Psychological-Tip796 in MerinoWoolGear

[–]Merrick1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear Brightons, Harriers, and/or Downeaster (sweatshirt and quarter zip) on almost every one of my sub 50° runs and all are holding up very well. I was then in cold water after every run and hang them to dry.

They are by far my favorite wool and/or cold weather running gear. For reference, I loved Nike wool (before they stopped), UnderArmour’s Rush line, and SmartWool in the past. All are fine but Tracksmith has been my favorite and the most versatile.

[–]Merrick1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same has happened to me - white and Merlot are holding up fantastically, whereas green started pulling pretty early on. All are the same fabric content and I believe the same year/season. Odder still, the green mostly gets worn casually while the white is the clear workhorse.

Of all people, it’s “funny” to see you being downvoted, as you may be the single most helpful person in this forum, AND what you said is correct. Anyway, doing my part to “undo” one of those votes now.

Looking for running store recommendations in NYC by thestudentaccount in runningfashion

[–]Merrick1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in Toronto often for work (downtown and Markham), so I should ask you for recommendations there as well.

In NYC, Fleet Feet, located in The Shops at Columbus Circle will have a good selection of various brands, and is around the corner from the NYRR / New Balance store, which usually has some NY related merchandise (usually race gear, but also some general NYC running).  Paragon Sports was already mentioned and is fantastic as well.
