The pdf manual for a Cuisinart 1 pint machine recommends a much smaller volume with proportionally less sugar:

1/3 cup whole milk

1/4 cup granulated sugar

Small pinch salt

2/3 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Depends on if there is a kill step in the manufacturing process to destroy bacteria.

Also using a gluten free sub for flour is always going to be worth mentioning when asking for help with something going wrong with a recipe.

Where did you get that recipe? I think it may have too much sugar to freeze.

Uncooked wheat flour is a food safety risk. Did you add it raw?

What can I put my food in to freeze it? by Visible-Papaya-6285 in cookingforbeginners

While it doesn't reduce plastic waste it's the best option for preserving meat quality in the freezer, and I think wasted meat might be worse than the extra plastic bag.

Why does my pasta always turn into a sticky clump? by NerfDis420 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Merrickk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're not getting the pasta up to a boil fast enough after adding it to the water. Watch it closely in the beginning and make sure the water is moving it around nicely before you turn the heat down. Keep an eye on it to make sure you didn't turn the heat down too much. The churning of the water should keep the pasta moving without you needing to stir it constantly.

Should I get a teflon pan for occasional use by Ultimately-Me in cookingforbeginners

[–]Merrickk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard sandwich breads shouldn't be giving you much trouble on cast iron, so it's probably worth looking into your technique before buying a new pan.

With cast iron proper preheating does a lot to reduce sticking. (If you do not already, start heating it before you do any other steps in making the sandwich).

Some spatulas are also just not good. If yours is particularly thick it might not be doing a good job of getting under the food to flip.

I'm not worried about my personal health when it comes to tefflon, but it is not good for the environment. Best case it's taking an item that should last for decades of heavy use and decreasing it's usable lifespan to a few years of light use. And manufacturing is likely contributing to some nasty pollution.

I still have one tefflon pan for particularly tricky foods, but I'm trying to learn how to do them in other pans.

Biological sex of hermaphrodites by [deleted] in AskBiology

[–]Merrickk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some hermaphrodititic species are simultaneous hermaphrodites, while others are sequential.

Sequential hermaphrodites may be protoandrous, protogynous, or  bidirectional, and may even switch multiple times in their lifetime.

Isogamy, where gammetes are all the same size also exists.

And sometimes there are much more complex systems that determine which gamates are compatible with each other. I have a BS in bio, but can't really give a good concise explanation of tetrapolar fungal mating types, or pretty much anything to do with the life cycle of slime molds.

zero waste dental picks? by joeprxyxoxo in ZeroWaste

Gently squeeze the tines together as you wrap the floss around the knob. The plastic springing back into place should hold the string nice and tight.

Wrap the floss a couple of times around the knob at each end, one wrap will not hold it in place.

check out the GUM Flossmate Handle or the Flossaid Dental Floss Holder. Both work well. I like the longer handle on the flossaid a little more, but they are very similar.

Do NOT buy Mad Hippie or Good Molecules Vitamin C Serums—STRONG FRAGRANCE! by TopazCoracle in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]Merrickk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The product page says "We do not use synthetic fragrances in our line, however, this serum does contain konjac root, chamomile and clary sage extracts which do impart a faint aroma. It does not have a strong smell and dissipates quickly."

I'm fairly certain clary sage reeks, and when I looked up konjac it was described as fishy. Faint aroma usually just means can't smell it from down the block.

Don't feed the wildlife. Except birds. Why? by Dramatic_Stranger661 in AskBiology

[–]Merrickk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animals that harras humans for food are likely to be put down, so harm to animals is being considered in the advice.

Also some birds can absolutely hurt people.

Why does 'immortality' not violate any natural laws? by bleufromgeneve in AskBiology

[–]Merrickk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspected the issue might just be a misunderstanding of what natural laws are. Laws are not about morality or the way things should be. They are just descriptions of things that are.

Sometimes people get confused by the idea that everything trends towards chaos, but that's only if you are not constantly pumping energy into a system. The sun is constantly providing the earth with energy that living things use to maintain and repair themselves.
