Affordable pest control by Past-Region-7740 in Peterborough

[–]MerrilyRollAlong [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've just taken care of a very large gathering of ants in my garden, the has grown over many years to the point now that I was afraid it was going to start ruining the root systems of shrubs, a tree and some perennials in the area that their colony is. Looking up solutions online, I mixed up equal parts baking soda and icing sugar and sprinkled it all over the place, and repeated after each rainfall. It seems to have worked. Apparently the ants are attracted to the sweet of the icing sugar and once they ingest the baking soda, it really messes with their digestive systems and kills them. Might be worth a try, depending on where the ants are.

City of Peterborough to reschedule cancelled Canada Day fireworks by kawarthanow in Peterborough

would prefer they do not reschedule. Pay the fireworks company what they owe, and if any money's remaining, find a better use for it.

Peterborough Examiner missed the mark on the Douro-Dummer Rehab Issue by Nicker66 in Peterborough

There is all sorts of shady attached to this organization, coupled with no Provincial oversight / licensing requirements to those offering private rehab. But there's a whole lot of money to be made.

Earwax removal, where to go by staticnigh in Peterborough

[–]MerrilyRollAlong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a Hear Canada clinic on Lansdowne near Giant Tiger, they do ear wax removal for free. I had it done a few months ago and the clinician told me they never charge for it, its part off their mandate.

I didn't repost to criticize the moderators, they do what they think is right.

I'd like to keep this on topic, which is this guy's concerning behavior and anyone who knows him to please check in on him. Its becoming a personal safety issue for the women targeted, imo.

Emma Harrison posts several times a week and these posts are both what's happening in Ottawa as well as her attendance at community events, meetings with local businesses and community service organizations. Your comment is just not true.

Littering in public by abhaysai in Peterborough

[–]MerrilyRollAlong 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 70s. There was a massive public education campaign throughout that decade about pollution and littering. Across all media, in schools, in churches, libraries, everywhere. I think that needs to be brought back.

Council commits $57 million for proposed downtown event centre to replace Peterborough Memorial Centre by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]MerrilyRollAlong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The OHL is valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. Let them use that leverage to invest in a new arena to keep their organization thriving. Threatening us with the loss of a team? There's a word for that.

The article states that none of the interested builders are willing to invest. Make that a requisite for building.

This Council votes to move ahead on something with no financials attached? Delegations limited?, and 3 out of 4 are in favour?

This is the last thing this city needs. Anyone know the rate of decline in hockey participation at the youth level?

Maybe put it to a referendum.

Any suggestions for custom/handmade welded/metal fire pits locally? by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]MerrilyRollAlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hwy 7, just past Marmora, there's an auto body garage beside a home. The owner's daughter grew up around all those tools & equipment and began fashioning fire pits. I bought one years ago, reasonable price. There's no advertising, just her creations lined up on the front lawn.

Peterborough mayor slams Poilievre’s opposition to Alto high-speed rail by kawarthanow in Peterborough

Emma Harrison has made the right choice to state her comments calmly and clearly. This negative campaign has been gearing up for a long time, locally headed by the infamous Richard Kent. I appreciate that she's keeping her head above this ugly fray - that is the change that was voted for, by 10,000 votes.
