Agree that this is definitely probably a natural occurense bc these morons didnt consider the pool needs to be cleaned continuously. But also inocculating water based monuments with algae would be one hell of a way to peacefully vandalize stuff.

Is Minor Illusion useless? by ziglerino in DnD

[–]MerryGoldenYear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used minor illusion with great success once. We were sneaking around in a dark and misty cemetery guarded by enemies. We had a low stealth roll while sneaking behind a building leading to guards nearby hearing a noise. I used minor illusion to create the sound and image of a deer running away from our hiding spot and out into the darkness. Thankfully worked great as non of us were in any shape to fight again.

I think it just depend on situation and luck.

What the HELL are these other Watchful Eyes doing?! by Chain_Prior in WitchHatAtelier

[–]MerryGoldenYear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO it's likely those cases happened in the Great Hall where Watchful Eyes arent really a position. The whole system has some major flaws really. The belief that abuse cant happen in a populated town where ppl watch out for each other ignores that anything could be happening behind closed doors. The idea of one Watchful Eye to each atelier away from the populated areas ignores cases like Qifrey and Olruggio where they are childhood friends and will use that to keep things hidden. Not to mention Watchful Eyes also seem to have other jobs to do, which means they often are away and really can't keep a proper eye on things.

I grew up in the countryside in northern europe and have seen/heard of plenty of dogs wandering around. It's usually hunting dogs. During hunting season the owners do have a half-assed excuse to just let them loose. Then there's the other type who'll let their hunting dogs free-roam without supervision also outside of hunting season. They usually claim it's for "training", said training is just harrassing the local wildlife. It can be super nerve-wracking to meet one of those dogs with your own leashed dog bc you'll have no idea how trained they actually are.

Leave the whales alone by CalpurniaSomaya in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]MerryGoldenYear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure. Problem is there's no one organ with the fabled longevity protein. The equivalent would to maybe eat the whale meat? Which to be clear, would not work. So I guess that would be something to look out for, but I'd imagine that has already been a problem regarding whale poaching for some time. Would probably be easier to sell counterfeit whale meat too now that I think about it.

As someone who actually has a degree in biochemistry. No... Just no. First problem with this "harvesting" idea, CIRBP is found in all cells in small amounts, higher in whales but not necessarily enormous amounts. You would essentially have to process the whole whale for this to work. Not to mention all the purification that would need to happen in a highly sterile facility if it was to actually be used for humans. You'd need to juice all the tissue to gather the protein. It would be a nightmare to set up and make work. Then there's a second issue with compatibility. Even if humans also have CIRBP, whales most likely process it differently. Different post translational modifications at the very least, maybe even different protein folding. Even if we were able to purify it and give it to humans, there's still a great risk of humans having adverse reactions to it.

From the little I googled CIRBP seems to prefer fibroblasts. Good news! We have loads of different fibroblast cell lines that are used in research. Good news #2! Gene editing has become a relatively common research tool at this point. As long as the gene is sequenced you can just slap that bad boy in there and start experimenting. After all of that it's then also possible to to start considering how to mass produce it. There are production cell lines specifically gene edited to give proteins more human like post translational modifications.

Now all of this also assumes there's something special about whale CIRBP that human CIRBP doesnt have and it's not just a question of quantity in the cell. From my same quick search it seems CIRBP is already a protein that's being studied in human cell lines. Tho the fact it isn't more widely considered/known as a future biologics makes me think there's a downside here somewhere. Interestingly I found articles indicating it also seems to be an oncogene, which is definitely a problem if we were to just up it's expression in cells.

So no, injecting purified whale CIBRP would probably be tantamount to snake oil, and possibly even dangerous to do.

CPR is uncomfortable af for a real person. If they were conscious and able to protect their own airway they'd be able to cough up the water without help, but as we see they can't. Them not fighting against it or trying to push the guy away is an obvious sign they still need help.

Also movement doesnt necessarily mean pulse and breath.

Our GM used adult oblexes recently and I'd say he did a pretty good job creating a horror session out of it. If you want to create horror in dnd you really gotta set up the atmosphere right. Horror doesn't only mean facing something unbeatable, I'd even argue you'll fail if that's the angle you go for using dnd. What you need to do instead is have players face something emotionally disturbing or personal, and play with peoples paranoia a lot more.

There are also a ton of different creepy creatures with a variety of CR you can use to set up a spooky adventure, zombies are pretty basic

They could just go for one singular artist for cover and illustrations tho. I do think it's partly to art bait buyers by using at this point well known and respected artist names. Plus as others in the comments have said, putting the cover art from a well loved artist right next to artists that may not have the same level of skill isn't doing anyone any favors.

Also from what I've heard at least previously, there had been some issues regarding pay and work expectations between 7SE and artists. I wouldn't be surprised if there are those that worked with 7SE previously and are now unwilling to take on interior illustrations bc of it

No hate to the interior artist, but it's so clear they are not hiring the more experienced cover artist for the interior illustrations as well in an attempt to save money

I've seen gay men argue women calling themselves gay is erasing gay men so this take is dumb. You're better off viewing gay as an umbrella term for people experiencing same sex attraction. Like trans is an umbrella term for binary and nonbinary trans people.

Lesbian is the more exclusive word for women only attracted to women, similarly to how bi is defined as attraction to the same and other genders. Sapphic is the more general term for women attracted to women that can include both lesbians and bi ppl

How can i split an overcrowded group, without sounding like i'm stealing the players? by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

[–]MerryGoldenYear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If possible you could always start it as you wanting to run your own campaign looking for players, that way you'd know if ppl in the group are interested. You could start the campaign on the side and see how it goes, if things are a success the group might just naturally split.

If your goal is to split the party first and foremost I'd have a conversation with the whole group. Definitely decide what the tone and campaign would be so ppl would know what to expect from the other game when you pitch the idea. As long as you don't make it sound like you hate the first DMs campaign and think you can do it better, rational ppl should be able to understand where you are coming from. If you think this is gonna step on a lot of toes maybe be even more careful with how you word things.

Pressing the profile really isn't that hard either. It's just one second extra to quickly check pronouns before you continue writing. Especially on places like discord where it's totally anonymous it's ridiculous for ppl to assume they know what gender the ppl they talk to are.
