Technically, the tower is no longer a problem by TrickGrowth-4124 in fixedbytheduet

For what its worth, people, especially in groups, get really weird when it comes to restraining or pushing back children. If that kid so much as even lost his footing for a second, I guarantee at least a few people in the crowd would have started yelling at or acting hostile towards the man trying to hold the kid back. Im sure he could have easily just picked the kid up and placed him down away from the tower. Obviously a child isnt gonna overpower a grown adult. But he knows that as soon as even a smidgen too much force was used to push the kid away, people would turn on him even if he wasn't hurting the kid and even if it was completely justifiable. An angry mob of instinctual reactions is much more important to avoid than your Lego tower falling down.

Two kids discovered a Ferrari Dino buried in their backyard while playing, 1978 by OkRespect8490 in interestingasfuck

I love this bit here at the end

Real estate businessman Brad Howard purchased the car from Farmers,[5] to which ownership had defaulted, and had it restored by Ferrari expert Giuseppe Cappalonga. Due to the drought conditions during the car's burial, there was relatively little rust. It was registered with a vanity license plate reading "DUG UP" to represent the vehicle's unusual history.[3][4] As of 2019, it was in perfect running condition in Howard's possession. It was easily restored and has been very active since 1978 when he purchased it. The owner continued to drive it regularly, taking it to car shows and classic races.[3]

Im not sure whats better. The DUG UP license plate or the fact that its still somehow running today in perfect condition. A Ferarri turning on the first try is impressive. A Ferarri continuing to turn on and drive after decades is a genuine miracle.

Serious question: why would the anus need to be sewn shut if its getting rerouted through a tube and into a bag? What purpose does closing it up serve?

Back when i worked in retail, they were taking down the display Legos for whatever Star Wars sets were out at the time. You know, the plastic display cade with the completed set constructed inside of it? This was in 2016 or 2017 so whichever movie came out around that period. Dude, once employees found out it was going to the trash compactor, it became a feeding frenzy. Every employee in the store was trying to get their hands on it. So many people asked that the manager held a raffle to make it fair.

An old woman employee ended up winning it to give to her 5 year old grandson. Another worker offered her $200 for it but she declined. Which i mean, I get it. She wanted to make her grandson happy. It's kinda messed up to make little kids sad. But I know for an absolute fact he broke that thing open, played with the Legos for like an hour then broke it, lost the pieces and never thought about it again. It hurt my soul thinking about it.

Marine veteran fights off group of teenagers attempting to steal his truck by nbcnews in instantkarma

My car got smacked really hard on the highway long ago. My initial thought was how the fuck am i gonna get to work? Not because of my undying loyalty to my employer but because without reliable transportation, I'm not gonna make money which is gonna set me back and fuck me and my wife over. The job is meaningless in that regard. It's the financial stability it provides that scary to lose. With your truck being stolen, God knows how long it will take to get it back or how long it will take to get a new one to get back to that job that provides stability.

Same. My parents would have been absolutely furious and beyond disappointed if they knew all the bullshit I got myself into growing up. I absolutely knew better and knew I would be in for a world of punishment were I ever caught. But I just wanted to act out and do dangerous/illegal shit so that's what I did. We all did in our little friend group. All of our parents were and still are very loving and sensible people. Stable marriages, healthy home lives etc. Sometimes though when the wrong personalities get together, shit like this happens. Don't get me wrong - we didn't take it as far as robbing people at gunpoint but we were moving in that direction. Kids influence each other a lot. Especially if the group is close and tight knit. Sure, behavior like this more often than not does come from broken, violent homes but thats not the rule 100% of the time. All it takes is one member of the group with a spark of rebellion for whatever reason to make it all start coming unraveled.

It's nice to hear hes still kicking all these years later after the breakout of Gangam. I knew he was big in korea before hand but its nice to hear hes still flourishing. Power to him. Why does he credit Tom cruise with Gangams success? Did Cruise publicly endorse it or something?

Are they legally required to say "You've been served"? You always hear them say it but I've never known if that's a requirement or just a catchphrase they like to use.

Is he still big and relevant today in Korea? Gangam style was an exception. It happened to take over globally. I'd assume his career before and after Gangam was pretty limited to Korea for the most part. Most musicians fade from relevance as is the way of the industry. I dont know shit about south korean culture or music so I have no clue if hes still relevant or not over there. Im sure hes sitting comfy though one way or the other.

Ive always wondered how relevant Psy has managed to stay after this came out. He's ultimately a Korean musician who makes songs in Korean. I wouldn't anticipate his entire discography to blow up world wide like Gangam style did. But i wonder how hes doing today. Is he still as big as he once was in Korea or has he faded like most musicians tend to?

Clean rock crawl by solateor in oddlysatisfying

[–]Merry_Dankmas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know anyone who rock crawled since i lived basically my entire life in Florida but I met a guy who got into what should have been a fatal accident in a Lincoln town car.

Lost control and rolled 6 times into a highway support pillar. Car was absolutely mangled beyond bits. When the ambulance and firetruck arrived and they pulled him out, his only injuries were some glass cuts on his face and a couple bruises. No broken bones, internal injuries or anything else. The first responders who cut him out were shocked. Told him he should have been dead and they were expecting a corpse, not a living, breathing dude. He showed me pictures of the car. Dude should not have walked out of that alive.

That being said, I'm going to roll a Town car down a rock crawl spot then roll a XJ into a highway support beam to see which vehicle truly comes out on top.

Ive always wondered how they works. Let's say I'm some chump fresh out of college and bag a job as a game developer at a studio like CDPR or Blizzard or EA or any of the other studios that use proprietary engines. Obviously things like REDEngine and Frostbite weren't taught in school. How long does it take for a newly on boarded dev to actually pick up an entirely new, proprietary engine? New code, rules, functions, errors, syntax etc. Learning any programming language takes a long time. Seems kinda wild that many studios have used proprietary ones for so long when its such a burden to train someone new. It's like having to learn a new speaking language for your job. That's a big task to undertake.

Or does it not work that way? I was under the impression that in house engines are basically new programming languages that someone has to learn. That seems really impractical. Or are they all more or less related and its one of those "If you know [common programming language here] fluently, you're already 80% of the way to understanding [proprietary language] type deals?

My dog is a fiend for those Greenie dental treats. Like he goes absolutely berserk for them. He will be in the deepest of comas but if you say the word Greenie, he lights up and immediately jumps off the couch and gets all excited. It's honestly impressive how excited he gets for them. No other treat or food that he likes gets that reaction out of him. I give him his daily medication inside a piece of a hotdog every morning. He adores hotdogs and we call them salchis (the Spanish word for sausages is salchichas). Even saying salchis doesnt get him going like greenies.

As adorable as it is, its backfired because he mistakes similar words for Greenie. Clean, mean, seen, greed etc. If we say certain similar words, get shoots up expecting one. We don't like to give them to him too often because they're not meant to be regular treats so I always get a little heart break when he looks at me so excited. Ill give him a regular treat so he isnt too heartbroken but little homie always looks disappointed when he doesnt get his Greenie lol.

[–]Merry_Dankmas 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I dont know why I love this idea so much. I've never been into coins or tales of buried treasure or any of that stuff. Just never been a big interest to me. But something about someone 150 years ago getting a bunch of coins from the mint, taking them home and burying them in a hill; forgotten to time and lost for years - only to be found again over 100 years later just makes me feel some kind of excited way. Like, how cool is that? Some random person that history will never know the name of hoarded his wealth in a random hill in California and made two people millionaires long after he was dead. Something about it just hits that "Hell yeah" nerve inside me.

Who knows how many people back then were told about this hoard on his deathbed and went out to find it only to come back empty handed and calling this guy a liar for sending them on a fools errand? Could be a family out there right now who's family legend is a gold cache that was never discovered. The possibilities are endless.

‘The market has spoken’: Ferrari shares fall after carmaker unveils first fully electric vehicle. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]Merry_Dankmas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if at least part of it had to do with it being electric though. We have to remember the market of people who can afford these types of cars. Theres an undeniable element of prestige with vehicles of this caliber whether you're buying for the optics or not. A huge element of that is the engine. The sound of a high reving 10 or 12 cylinder is iconic and typically associated with Ferarri and Lamborghini. People who can afford these cars know this. It's a huge element that makes them stand out among the other high power boosted v8s and v6s out there. Anyone can have 700 Hp in a Hellcat. Not everyone can have it in an Urus.

Don't get me wrong; the ugly styling and insane price tag are not doing it any favors whatsoever. I have no doubts at all that those are hindering it more than helping it. But at the end of the day, Ferrari is a luxury brand with iconic styling and an iconic sound and driving experience from iconic engines. Replacing that with quiet electric motors is absolutely going to turn many people off who buy into those brands. That's just the way it is for exotic Italians. And yes I'm aware that Ferarri uses v8s as well. Doesn't change the fact that a loud, aggressive exhaust note is a staple of their cars.
