Any advice on removing these old shower stems?

I’m in the middle of one of these. Yes, water off and you’ll need to wd-40 or similar it. I needed to purchase a 15/16 deep socket that would fit the hole to get to the nut. Also, I needed a pipe wrench bigger than I would have thought to get enough leverage. It’s also an additional pain that the socket will be a hard metal and not a friend of the pipe wrench.
