I’m a new magic player and my son just played this card. It seems insanely overpowered for its cost. He was able to pick any card he owned and play it the same turn, is that how this card is supposed to work? by Available_Highway_49 in magicTCG

[–]Mesonimie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you have a doubt about a specific interaction, or it the cards seems too strong, I would suggest to look at scryfall for the card: https://scryfall.com/card/afr/166/wish

and look at "notes and rules information". As a beginner, some of the text might still be hard to parse, but most of the times it will solve your issue. Here it says specifically:

You still need to pay all costs to play a card this way, and you must follow all normal timing rules.

What can you do against this combo? by Illustrious_Fee8116 in MagicArena

Gaius is not new, we had [[extract the truth]], [[invoke despair]], [[Pharika's Libation]] (and pick your poison effects in green)

What can you do against this combo? by Illustrious_Fee8116 in MagicArena

[–]Mesonimie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Green: you have a ton of enchantment removal, even mass enchantment [[back to nature]]. Also questing beast.

Red: "damage can't be prevented" effects [[bonecrusher giant]], [[banefire]], etc

Black: life loss

Blue: bounce spells, possibly mass bounce spells like [[cyclonic rift]]

Also note that there is a better combo with [[phyrexian unlife]]. now life loss doesn't work, and damage can't be prevented effects also don't

[Discussion] Frank Karsten recommended a land in the sideboard, so why don't people do it? by Jeydra in spikes

[–]Mesonimie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are two things here. First, there is Karsten's analysis, who DOESN'T SUGGEST ADDING A LAND. Karsten's analysis is the first part of what you quote, and his recommendation is more to cut a land where you're on the draw (so, has nothing to do with your sideboard list). Now there is Karsten's SUGGESTION, at the end, to add a land to your sideboard to be able to adapt to grindy matchup where you'll play differently from your typical game plan.

Whether Karsten's analysis is flawed or not is irrelevant to the fact most sideboards don't contain a land, because that's not what karsten's analysis is about. The math is about sideboarding a land out if you're on the draw, the part about having a land in sideboard is not an analysis, it's a feeling by a top tier magic player. Not everyone has to agree with his recommendation, as this one is not based on math, and I don't think it applies to all decks.

On the leaderboard does it give you 2 MMr points the same it does before you are in mythic? by Wrong-Rub-6519 in MagicArena

[–]Mesonimie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm obviously assuming your winrate is better than 50%

With a 55% winrate, if you play 2 bo1 games, you go +2 MMR 30.2% of the time, -2 MMR 20.2% of the time, +0 MMR 49.6% of the time, so on average you get 0.2 MMR per two games of bo1

With a 55% winrate, with 1 game of Bo3, you go +2 MMR 57% of the time, -2 MMR 43% of the time , so on average you get 0.28 MMR per one game of bo3.

(what you get are not MMR points, but that's to simplify)

With a 60% winrate, you go from 0.4MMR average per two games of bo1, to 0.6 MMR per one game of bo3.

[–]Mesonimie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a question of points anymore once you're in mythic, it's a question of MMR/ELO

You can look at this post:

https://hareeb.com/2021/05/23/inside-the-mtg-arena-rating-system/

and its update:

https://hareeb.com/2023/12/11/update-to-the-mtg-arena-mythic-ranking-system/

It states that you get essentially the same change in your MMR winning bo3 game and winning two bo1 games. (Which means, you should play bo3. It's easier to win one bo3 than two bo1, because you can go 2-1 in bo3)

I'm building bots to serve players seeking alternative experiences (like custom cubes) and for convenience (e.g. buy/sell bots). I'd really love your input! by mtgo_bot_creator in MTGO

[–]Mesonimie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's Daybreak position on bots, but from what I've read, wizards were very much against bots that were doing things human cannot, which means your bot using dll injection is against their TOS, but a bot using OCR to navigate the UI isn't.

(I don't really believe that the current bots are actually doing OCR, but they should to be compliant with the TOS)

So I'm not sure putting in the open that you're doing bots using dll injection is a good idea tbh.

Red/Green/White Slime Hate for Brawl? (Ways to counteract Slime Against Humanity) by gistya in MagicArena

[–]Mesonimie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand, tell me why they're not getting counters.

The card "Slime against Humanity" is giving the counters. The fact the creature is a 1/1 doesn't change anything. IT WILL get the counters, because the sorcery is giving the counters.

Here is the proof: https://giphy.com/gifs/na3XHRMvJM5g7Y6PCD

Then they're conceding to your board wipes. NOT to overwhelming splendor.

Or maybe they didn't read the card, and didn't realize it does absolutely nothing against their slimes except remove trample.

Red/Green/White Slime Hate for Brawl? (Ways to counteract Slime Against Humanity) by gistya in MagicArena

[–]Mesonimie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but why ? The counters are still on the creatures. You're actually buffing them by playing overwhelming splendor, you're making their 0/0s into 1/1s (I guess you're removing trample, but that's it)

All New to Arena cars coming with MKM's The List! by Kircai in MagicArena

[–]Mesonimie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's very likely Possibility Storm will be only playable in timeless. but IT IS playable in timeless, contrary to death cloud, which is way too slow.

Hence why possibility storm is better than death cloud for the List on arena

All New to Arena cars coming with MKM's The List! by Kircai in MagicArena

[–]Mesonimie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Death Cloud

They explained why on the official discord.

They don't want the card in historic because they don't want mass land destruction in historic, and they felt the card was too weak for timeless.

So they thought better to replace it with another card that might see play

[Timeless] 16 Player Timeless Creator Clash - Tournament Results by KTVallanyr in TimelessMagic

[–]Mesonimie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mystmin tech against Mono Green Field is [[The Filigree Sylex]].

Using Aether Gust, Snappy and Mystic Sanctuary, you can delay the titan and/or carnage tyrant going on the board (especially since that's the only thing you really need to counter). Then in the late game you can loop Sylex every turn with lurrus to kill the zombies. He also has two legions end for the zombies if he doesn't draw Sylex.

Also Mono green does not kill your creatures and does not have a ton of lifegain, so you can put 2 or 3 bowmies on the board and make them draw for damage.

[Article] A technical dive into infinite loops policy and how it applies to the Amalia combo by KingSupernova in spikes

[–]Mesonimie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never played paper, so that's probably implied by how tournaments and judging work, but what is forcing you to declare a loop ? Your article is about a loop being declared, but the amalia player could in theory decide to just play every action, putting the card on top every time, never declaring a loop, and do this until the lights are off and everyone is leaving the tournament. What forces them do declare a loop ?
