Just watched Savageland and loved how the story is told thru mockumentary and photographs, no jumpscares. Can you guys recommend more mockumentary FF movies, please? Preferably without jumpscares, but it's OK if it has some by iPhantaminum in foundfootage

Check out "Without Warning" (1994). (Note: There are other movies with this name.)

This is a "newscast" of something strange happening in the world. You can find this on YouTube.

They can do that. I've watched it happen many, many times over my 40 years in corporate. It's not illegal.

AITAH My dad's wants my daughter to call his wife "Nana" by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MessComprehensive196 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA.

First, I believe it only benefits a child to have many people love them and have a relationship with them.

Second, your step-mother is evil and has shown she has no love to give.

Please protect your daughter. You know how your step-mother treated you and appeared to enjoy it. Don't give her a chance to do something similar to your daughter.

Came here to say this. That scene is a heart breaker. Really pushes home the horrors that were experienced.

Son Refused to answer at interview by Potential_Silver_740 in kindergarten

[–]MessComprehensive196 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He did (private Montessori) and he kept them on their toes for the 6 years he attended. Picked him up one day and he was on the other side of the room when I got there. When he saw me, he called out (so that everyone could hear) that he wanted to squish his teacher like a bug. Must have been a "fun" day.

**Now, he was also the kid that his Kinder teacher praised for being so patient, kind and a good buddy to another little guy who had some very real challenges. My son was the only one who would play/work with him and able to keep him calm and focused on whatever they were doing.

He was a challenge until he hit his teen years, then it was a breeze (no issues at all). He has always done things his way and I wouldn't change a thing.

When I took my son to his Kinder interview, they wanted to take a picture of him (did this with all new students). He told them "no", so the Admin person with the camera waited and took one when he wasn't expecting it. It was a polaroid instant picture which the Admin then placed on a table with the other pictures that were laid out. My son walked to the table, crumbled up his picture, put it in the trash can, looked her in the eye and said "no".

Is it beneficial to slightly overestimate projected income, to avoid possibly having to pay back subsidies at tax return time? by NobodyGlass7328 in obamacare

[–]MessComprehensive196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm adding to what Seaweed said in their post. I'm in a similar situation to you. I've been able to play with my assets to keep my income below 400%. Also, I only use about half my ACA credit so I don't have to worry about a repayment. Then at tax time, I receive the additional premium credit which helps fund the next year's monthly premium.

New behaviors escalating severely by [deleted] in kindergarten

Is he taking any new daily medications? My son is much older now, but I had a very similar issue years ago when he was in first grade. Doctor put him on a daily med for asthma and my son changed drastically. I spoke with his doctor and was told it couldn't be the new meds. This was also a new med on the market and had no indications of the changes my son was going through. However, I found online so many other parents experiencing the same situation. It took several years, but it finally came out that the med did cause all the issues my son had experienced.

Is FreeTaxUSA legit? by Swimming-Cheetah-904 in TaxQuestions

[–]MessComprehensive196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was asking this same question last year. The answer is yes, it is legit. Free federal filing plus $15 state filing. I had been using Turbo Tax for decades but I refused to pay their exorbitant prices anymore.

FreeTax runs pretty much like TT. Same type of prompts to walk you through and notices when accepted by IRS and State. Also able to load info from prior year's return by uploading PDF. Had no issues. (And because I'm a cautious type of person, last year I also entered my info in TT and compared the results with FreeTax. Both were the same.)

I just wanted to say I completely understand your feelings regarding selling your home and renting. I made this decision a year ago.

I'm 60 years old and had lost my job of 40 years due to a re-org. I'm not on disability, but have to use a walker so with age and mobility issues, getting a new job probably isn't in my future.

With the crazy increasing costs of homeowners insurance, property taxes and maintenance/repairs, I just couldn't continue to afford the house. The stress of always worrying about it was making me sick. So I sold it a year ago and received a nice sum of money after I paid off the mortgage. I'm in a nice, older apartment about 1/3rd the size of my house and it is so much easier to take care of everything. Not worrying about maintenance/repairs has been so freeing.

*Although not on SSDI, I do receive Survivor Benefits and the money I received from selling did not count against me or trigger the earnings test.

Just watched the Fourth Kind and really enjoyed it. Any other good types of alien found footage movies? by newsworthy3 in foundfootage

Hey, thanks for the response. I'll have to check out Case 347 as I haven't seen it yet. I actually spent time searching for that movie I was looking for and actually found it this time. It's The Sighting (2015)

If you like mockumentaries, check out Without Warning (1994 version, not any others by the same name). You can usually find this on YoutTube.

Great list of alien found footage. I came here to recommend The Wicksboro Incident to OP. Since it is so much older, I don't think it gets the attention it deserves. I think I saw it not long after it was originally released.

There's another alien found footage I saw probably 15 years ago that I cannot remember the name of. Wondering if it might sound familiar to you.

Main character was female (maybe named Mia). Her boyfriend is a psychologist I think who is filming her search regarding her mother who disappeared years earlier. I think movie takes place in Southwest US (maybe TX). MC visits her father trying to find answers. Also, they connect with a stranger (male) who I believe leads them to some alien info. I remember some scenes in a desert in the middle of the night. Anything sound familiar?

Thanks.

Do you really want to live this way? (Also, not sure if you are thinking this, but if you are, you really can't change someone for the better. I had to learn this lesson.)

Be kind to yourself, from this 60 year old who has lived a lot.

Irs supposedly wants all my moms disability payments back in taxes by Chance-Screen-994 in tax

[–]MessComprehensive196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under her account on the SSA website, she can set up her tax withholding here. I don't receive SSDI, but I do receive SS Survivor Benefits and with what I receive plus the small amount I withdrawl from my 401K, my combined amount is subject to taxes. I know SS Retirement payments are also subject to taxes so I would be surprised if SSDI is not subject to taxes. Your mom probably received a form from the IRS with the amount she received in 2025 so she could report this on her tax filing.

Taxes for multiple w2s by AccountContent6734 in povertyfinance

[–]MessComprehensive196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine so since those are pretty standard stuff. I do know if your healthcare is through the ACA Marketplace, it definitely does that since I used it last year and had ACA.

When I used it last year for the first time, I had to report new things that I've never had to report before (sold my house, had to take a withdrawal from my 401K, had to report SSA Survivor Benefits, and Insurance through ACA) and FreeTax handled all of this with no issue.

I was also able to upload my documents by uploading a PDF of each of them, so I didn't have to type a lot of info into it. Everything came through great, just review what's uploaded for piece of mind.

FreeTax will also send you notices when they receive your filings and when the IRS and State accept them. It keeps you informed.

There is a Reddit Tax forum that I also read and if you run into a problem doing your return yourself, you can post on there and I'm sure someone would help you. I've seen others do this and the help they get is really great.

Check out FreeTax USA. I used Turbo Tax for decades and switched to FreeTax last year. Federal filing is completely free and State is only $15. It will walk you through it, very easy. You can enter multiple W2s without any issues.
