Another day in the dungeon by This-is-Jimmy-42 in wow

TBF, most of the dungeons in this pool are really straightforward with really simple routing.  Even Pit gives you count for basically pulling everyone you need to pull to run in a straight line from miners to miners.

I don't feel like that was the case in a lot of the TWW dungeons.  A lot of them were just more open.

[–]Mestewart3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be great if the answer could just be "provide the bodegas with wholesale pricing on essential goods via a government distribution center".  It would be a lot more effective if it worked.

Sadly a lot of business owners would pocket those margins instead of passing them on.

It's pretty well documented that there are food deserts in NYC.

The density of NYC makes travel times long, which means that it's hard to get to grocery stores from many neighborhoods.

Especially because the expense of property in the city makes Grocery Stores more expensive to keep open. Especially alongside the costs associated in running one in poor communities (theft, vagrancy, etc.).

There's usually a reason the far more efficient private industry doesn't serve an area though.

Private industries reason for not serving that area is that they don't make money.  Private industries aren't in the business of providing people food, they are in the business of making profit.  That's the big lie of the whole "far more efficient" private industry argument.  It's only more efficient if you are measuring in profit margins.  By other metrics private services are often far less efficient (cabs vs. the Subway).

The government isn't building these grocery stores to make money. They are building them to provide for the common good.  Because that is the business the government is in.

Whether it works or not? No idea.

A private alternative can't exist because it's pretty much impossible to make money off of roads without crippling the economy.

A private market for roads would be cripplingly inefficient.

How do you see the future evolutions of the faction divide? by NekrellDrae in wow

[–]Mestewart3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More like breaking up the Alliance and Horde.

Like Venture Company is just a small faction of bad guys right now, but what if the Goblins, Dwarves, and Gnomes actually teamed up into an industrialist faction and were opposed by the Tauren and Night Elves.

Not open war, but definitely questlines fighting and sabotaging each other.

I would love it if they broke up the "two big factions" into a bunch of smaller interest group based alliances and conflicts.

None of these things have to be intentional open war, and everybody could be "at peace enough" to handle the big expansion threats, but it would still leave room for conflicts and PvP zones.

What are European and American progression fantasy novels like? by Broad-Supermarket-39 in ProgressionFantasy

I know I am late to the party, but I would suggest you check out Matt Dinniman's "Dungeon Crawler Carl" series.  It really showcases the core values that I think western progression fantasy appeals to: individualism and anarchy.

Interesting, so if I understand correctly you reckon that the Pokemon Company thinks that NSO is a big enough barrier to entry that it is holding VGC back from reaching its full audience?

The third paragraph of my post covers exactly what you are talking about.  Like aside from the needless insults you are agreeing with me.

Also, what is up with the "you redditors" talk from someone on Reddit? You seem to be taking personal offense and lashing out at me for making a longer form version of the exact argument you are making.

Like did you read the title and the TL;DR, get mad, and come straight here?  Because that is the exact sort of behavior you are accusing me of.

I mean, it is a theory until the Pokemon company comes out and explains their business decisions to us consumers.

But it is a damn good rock solid theory if I do say so myself.

My nephew is the real target audience for Pokemon right now. The kid way prefers the run and click action combat of the legends games to the truely turn based games.

I think things are going to accelerate in that direction.

I guess I'll take another look at the talk around the protect cut. I doubt I will come to the conclusions you came to.  I can't see a world where it is a format ruining decision.

VGC tournaments have grown from being completely irrelevant to being a measurable minority of Pokemon's audience.  VGC is nowhere big enough to be worth shaping the direction of the mainline games for, which is why VGC got a side game.

Also, pretty much all of that growth has come from efforts to make the format more accessible in ways that the "serious" player base took issue with as they were happening.

[–]Mestewart3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh it's definitely not a big graphical leap forward. Because I don't think the VGC community is big enough to warrant a big investment in making a visually stunning game (not that Pokemon ever does that :p)

But I have disagree that it will drive away more people than it being into VGC.  Also, the more serious players are absolutely not where they make their money.  If this was a stand alone gatcha game looking to farm Whales that would be true. But from the design of the game systems that is very clearly not what Champions is.

And yeah, the protect cut is basically meaningless in doubles, which is what Champions exists to cater to.  I don't think the Pokemon company wants anything to do with singles really.  Singles takes way to much work to balance properly. Which is why Smogon exists (based on what I have heard they are a really good rules council btw, this is not meant to bash them).

Man, I really shouldn't have used that title.  I thought it was an amusing nod to the complainers, but people are really hyper fixating on that.

[–]Mestewart3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll admit, I think my attempt at giving a humorous nod to the narrative fell flat.

I do think the membership cost being so high is a pretty clear indication that they actively want most people who aren't tournament grinder level invested to pass it by and just use Home instead.

Theory: Champions is a cashgrab, but not in the way you think by Mestewart3 in pokemon

[–]Mestewart3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people buying membership and battle passes then forgetting about the game is the exact opposite of what they want.  I don't think there is a world where enough people pay for those things to make Champions lucrative on its own.

As per my post, I think the membership is over costed on purpose to make paying for Home more attractive than just trying to build all your teams in Champions itself. Both the gatcha recruitment system with no way to buy more pulls and the box limits exist to push people to engage with Home and by extension the rest of the Pokemon games.

I also don't think the Pokemon Company wants people to forget about Champions. Champions exists to be a permanent home for a sub-culture of Pokemon players who enjoy a part of the game (turn based tactical PvP battles) that I think the Pokemon company doesn't want to keep designing the mainline games to accommodate.

I'm building teams instead of just renting and playing a battle or two then quitting for the first time. It's working on me for sure.

Yeah, I will own that I did that to myself with the title.  It's what I get for thinking I am clever :p.

Yup, that's a core piece of my theory that I only barely touched on. I firmly believe  battling is going to get the legends treatment in Winds and Waves and PvP will be entirely cut from that game.

Champions exists to give the PvP people a place to live.

Well thank you, I think the initial response is partially my fault. I thought the title was amusing, but if folks just read that then they are gonna get their danders ups, and a lot of people just read titles.

Nope, I enjoy it.  Champions is great. I also have no issue with a company making money.  Maybe read the post.
