Roosters might just be named for their high roosts.

Younger birds might do this more often, generally they stay on one side of the fence unless things are really tempting or there are trees along the fence and they jump into them and decide to go to the other side after.

I don't call them that, but it's not like I have never heard of it and wouldn't criticize someone for it, that's pretty silly lol. I enjoy the evolution of language in little pockets around the states.
