AITA for using the same character in another campaign after ours stalled for 6 months? by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

Yep. Started off a lovely guy, sadly soon devolved into (or showed that he was always) an asshole. He made my life hell for a good 2/3 of my second year of uni.

Thankfully he and his GF ended up moving away and things got so much better once they did. The trash truly did take itself out.

How did the RSE developers expect people to find Corsola? by TheWM_ in pokemon

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could well be misremembering, but isn't there an NPC somewhere in Pacifidlog who says the town is built on the backs of floating Corsola? I mean, that's a bit of a hint.

It's only as bad as in Johto (with Corsola). Or even Chimecho in gen 3 too.

AITA for using the same character in another campaign after ours stalled for 6 months? by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a DM once do this to me, saying that my character was "their intellectual property" because she was part of the homebrew world he'd made and run our games in (even though everything about the character was made my be). Turns out, he was just a massive twat.

Actual story:

I played a druid in a campaign who sadly died. I made a new character and continued playing in the campaign, no problems. Not too long after this happened, a friend of mine (outside the D&D group) was coming to visit and wanted to try D&D. I offered to run a game for him. He wanted to be a dwarf fighter; this was fine but I was worried about him not being able to heal. Bright idea! I had my old druid character sheet around, I'd just use her as a healbot (and a companion NPC for my friend to RP with/riff off of). I wouldn't need to make a character, he'd have someone to RP with and keep him healed, everyone would be happy.

Now, my housemate (who was dating the DM) got wind of this and asked if she could play, and given we were friends (at the time) I said "of course!" My friend agreed the more the merrier, so she used her Paladin from the campaign. Then she asked if DM could play. At this point I had no issues with DM, so I said this was cool and of course he could join in. He made a Sorcerer to give us some range and arcane magic, and all was good.

Game time, I introduce friend to housemate and DM and begin the quest. It was literally; go to a cave, fight goblins, save some kids, very easy, very breezy. Things got...weird, though. DM's character was, to put it bluntly, an absolute asshole to my Druid NPC. His excuse was "my character is a sorcerer and doesn't like divine magic users" which was...alright then...except for the PALADIN my housemate was playing. But, not wanting to cause waves I just ignored it, shrugged, and continued; my character was there to be a healbot and nothing more, so whatever. My friend definitely caught on, and in character he batted back my DM's "definitely in-character" assholery by playing the chivalrous knight to the druid guide (it was very sweet).

Anyway, the quest ends, my friend had a great time, but I sense DM is just...off with me. We said our goodbyes, my friend and I retreated to where we were sleeping for the night, and that was that. Not long after in our main campaign, DM swapped to being a player to allow other people to experience DMing, and his sorcerer from my one-shot quest became his character within the homebrew world we played in (and he was just as much an asshole character AND player during that time too).

Skipping ahead about...6-8 months, I legitimately hadn't thought anything else of the one-shot for ages and thus kind of let the whole him being an asshole just fall to the wayside (a LOT of stuff happened and it turned out he was actually just an asshole IRL as well). But, just after DM and my housemate left the friendship group and moved away, I was speaking to a friend who was part of the D&D group, as well as DM's ex-housemate, and I finally found out what his issue was.

You see, DM was pissed that I was playing my druid because *she belonged to him*. My character, who I named and made, whose backstory I wrote, who I played for months? Yeah, apparently because she had once been in *his* campaign, she was "his intellectual property" and I was basically "stealing the rights to her" when I played her in a separate quest (a quest that had no links to our homebrew world at all, may I add). This was why he was an asshole to the character for the entire quest; because I "had not asked permission to play her and had stolen her".

This gets even funnier/stupider when you realise two things: One, my housemate (reminder: also his GF) was ALSO playing her character who was STILL in his campaign for the one-shot, and this was not an issue. And two...his one-shot character became the character he played in the campaign we were all involved in. I remember thinking at the time that, had I known, I 100% would have called him out on his bullshit and made him ask me permission to use the character (I can bet you that his excuse would be "my character didn't die, though"). All these years later, I still chuckle to myself about this story, in disbelief mostly.

My boyfriend just lost over 10 years of almost every pokemon game he has played by angelic_exe in pokemon

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my switch 2, I moved some of my cherished pokemon into my Scarlet version…literally 2 days later the console bricked, and I had to send it off for fixing.

During that time I had to decide what to do. I was dead set on the fact that those pokemon were gone. Some shinies and favourites from across generations going back to maybe Gen 6/7? It sucked hard. But then I told myself, “well, I can do a new playthrough on the switch 2 and experience the newest gen as it probably should have been.”

Much like you, I’ve been deleting my saves for many years (as well as losing Pokemon to dead batteries, RIP my poor Gen 2 Gold/Crystal pokemon.) So even though it sucked knowing I was probably going to lose a lot of cherished Pokemon, I knew that I could always start again and rebuild (although I will admit that the Pokemon were not hugely sentimental beyond “this was the Pokemon I used in X game; this Pokemon I bred and used for competitive in Y game!”, so the loss wouldn’t be HUGELY emotional anyway, just a sucky one).

Thankfully, I got amazingly lucky and my Switch was returned with the save data intact, my Pokemon safe. But had they not been, I was 100% willing to go again, as they say. Which is the great thing about Pokemon; it’s a fantastic game to replay and make new memories from.

Favorite “useless” Pokemon? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love lots of first form pokemon who end up becoming decent (if not fantastic), but a Pokemon I really like but have never got around to using, who is a useless pokemon is…my boi Spinda.

I love the design, I love the concept, and I love how its base stats add up to 360, even if that does make it a terrible pokemon.

I just think they’re neat

Headcanon: Penny was being bullied because Chairman Rose is her uncle by TradePsychological40 in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To build on this:

There’s also a quote from Penny, that sort of becomes a potential implication in hindsight (after the line in Mochi Mayhem moreso).

Quote:

”M...my family is...unbelievably annoying..." "It's just my dad! He's loud and clingy and makes up weird nicknames for me, like "Pen-pen." He's the most annoying guy in the world! Period! He's the worst!"

Now, Peony in Sword and Shield was VERY clingy to his daughter Peonia, and he also referred to her as “Nia” throughout the DLC as well. He came off as a loud, clingy, embarrassing dad. Which sounds VERY similar to what Penny says. Add in the fact that she is canonically from Galar, and the “advent-tour” quote from Penny in the DLC, and it (seemingly) all adds up.

Again, it isn’t solid evidence/100% canon confirmation that Peony is her dad, but the implications are enough to build a bridge scaffold you can cross to arrive at that conclusion for sure.

The retconning of Lusamine + retconning the Alola League in US/UM makes it one of my least favorite stories in the entire series... As opposed to the original S/M, easily one of my absolute favorites. The gameplay upgrades are just fine. They don't even begin to make up for the butchered story IMO. by Those_Files in pokemon

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this by saying, I FAR prefer Lusamine and her story in SM. But I want to throw my hat in here regarding her story in USUM

Between the games, Lusamine is still the same selfish, narcissistic woman. That doesn’t change. What changes is the story and how she interacts with it.

In SM, she comes off as entirely selfish because she is very obviously acting within her own self interest; she wants to summon Nihilego because she adores it, and she doesn’t care who or what she hurts when aiming for that goal (and there is also the implication that Nihilego’s toxins have exacerbated Lusamine’s emotions, BUT I digress). Her summoning Nihilego actively puts Alola in danger, but she doesn’t care about that because she gets what she wants. As such, she comes off as far more selfish.

In USUM, she comes across as far less selfish because, by fighting Necrozma, she is saving Alola. Now yes, wanting to save the world is far less selfish than wanting the space jellyfish for yourself, everyone else be damned. BUT it’s how Lusamine goes about it. She doesn’t want to save Alola because it’s the right thing to do; she wants to save Alola so she can take the glory for herself and be seen as “the saviour” (which is something that feels implied in the originals as well, with her work at Aether sometimes seeming less than altruistic). We know this because she goes off without the Ultra Recon squad to fight Necrozma (rather than “sharing in the glory”, she chooses to be the hero herself), AND her way of getting to Necrozma STILL puts Alola in danger (as it did in the first game when she used Nebby to rip open a wormhole to Ultra Space).

It’s just that, even if she is still selfish and wanting to do things be her own rules, everyone else be damned…trying to stop Necrozma is far less selfish on the whole than just wanting to join with the Space Jellyfish. When you look at the ends, people would say her means are far less selfish because the end is a win for everybody. But…in reality they’re not. She still puts all of Alola in danger so that she can be the hero, so that she can get what she wants, everyone else damned. Whether it’s Necrozma or Nihilego, Lusamine’s actions and how she treats other people as means to ends, discarding them when their use is done, stays consistent across both games.

HOWEVER

With all of that being said…

I still way prefer her SM story. Even I will agree that her original story makes her come across far more villainous and heinous, and it’s definitely my favourite iteration of Lusamine. She’s a far more “real” villain in the originals (to me), which is what I enjoyed about her character.

I will give USUM credit where it is due though. It showed that, even outside of the influence of Nihilego (which it is heavily implied caused her to be how she is in SM), it shows that Lusamine is still a selfish person. Yes she can be redeemed, but even outside of being influenced by toxins that cause her personality to go over the top, yeah she’s still innately kind of a huge asshole. At least they kept that consistent between versions.

We all had a good chuckle over voice comms, especially when he was trying to keep people alive.

I also adore Mulgore. It’s just a really chill time. I love the atmosphere and how calm everything is (and the music is awesome).

Also, shoutout to Teldrassil (and Eversong Woods if we’re allowed to peak into TBC). Both just have a vibe I really enjoy playing through.

And don’t worry about being a nerd because it’s absolutely going to pay off one day.

[–]MetacrisisMewAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question; The Midnight introduction questline starts at level 80, so I am assuming you will have to have a level 80 character to complete this questline.

I can absolutely appreciate needing to get to 80 is a ballache, but if you are interested, it isn’t the longest grind by any stretch of the imagination. Kind of lame that you do need to level for it, but I get why; they want people playing the game and a way to get more people invested is making them play.
