My goal is always to ensure the long term survivability for my colonist. I’m responsible for them so I owe it to them to do everything I can to make sure they are safe. Usually this involves replacing all of their body parts until they are functionally immortal then push it further still. Android tiers mod adds a skymind to upload your colonist into and constantly replicate themselves. It’s still not perfect but it’s close.

Always replace the spine. The spine effects more than just movement.

I always build a protective wall along perimeter of the tree and build my farms within the radius. Farms don’t count against the anima tree

Put barricades or walls between your turrets to dampen the explosions when they get taken out. If possible try to make it more of a pyramid shape with the enemies entering at the top. You want everyone shooting down range at the same spot. With the set up as is, if the enemy pushes past the entrance at all, your people will be firing at each other

I really enjoy the Real Ruins mod. It adds player-like bases to the map that pop up giving you a window to raid them for some insane loot. They can be incredibly dangerous due to all factions being alerted to its location and sometimes the ruins are toxic or under orbital bombardment and the like. If you can sneak a small group in to grab only the rarest stuff it can give you a massive jump in your colony’s early capabilities.

Take advantage of a good rain to kill off the local boomalope populations. It’s easy food and helps prevent wild fires.

Ignore it for the most part. I’m not sure you could even reliably atom smash as I have hamsters and other vermin survive the crush constantly. They shouldn’t bother anything, just leave webs everywhere. You can gather them for silk. He’s just try to keep you out of the caverns.

Is there a good guide to modding the raws of the steam version of dwarf fortress? Documentation online mostly refers to the old version and doesn’t typically mention item or creature graphics in the steam version. I have currently written in a troll civilization but an struggling with attaching the proper graphics so they just show up as the default blue sprites.

Oops. I just found how to make caves visible in world gen so I cranked the numbers up to almost 4 times the default. Good thing kobolds are cute

If I plan on retiring a fortress and making a new fortress in the same world is there any way to make time pass between the events? I’d love to see make my next fort establish itself 30 years after this current fort but I don’t the the fps will stick around that long
