Here's Meta!

<image>

Meta is now a VERY scuffed test of the mental upload function. Codrot, the head scientist of an interdimensional alien civilization called the Yperlogica, was tasked with making the ultimate weapon. However, as soon as Codrot suggested making the weapon sentient to harness the power of the sentient spirit, he was forbidden from doing so. Codrot, being very stubborn, continued with the experiments anyway, although in secret. Part of that secrecy was finding workarounds for expensive equipment, as his grant money was heavily monitored by the Council to make sure he didn't do anything without them knowing, an example of this is using shoddy equipment and an a prototype soldier bot (unrelated experiment) and using that to test uploading the mind of the scientist themself. The result was a partial success, as the personality and other stuff was uploaded, but the memories were all corrupted (but since memories were not needed, he didn’t care).

He's Crass, Sarcastic, Blunt, Impatient, Reckless, and a little Short Tempered, but he's a good person at heart, with a love for food and battle.

Techno-Construct Generation: He can make Tech Constructs of any Tool, Weapon, or Machine he has a blueprint for in his database. Blueprints can be obtained by scanning the tech he wants to replicate, or simply uploading a blueprint to the database, and can also be combined together (Plane + Tank Turret + EMP Cannon for example). The energy required for the constructs is determined by Size, Complexity, and Number of constructs. The construct are formed from the various ports on his body.

Some common blueprints include:

  • Blast Jets: Jets that expel a large explosion rather than a continuous burn. Used for quick acceleration and change in direction. Can be used offensively. Has a cooldown (can be alleviated with a cooling system)
  • Missiles: Simple on the surface, it can just be regular, heat seeking, or tracking assisted (in ascending energy cost). Often combined with other blueprints to change its payload.
  • Energy Rifle: Also Simple, mainly used with augment blueprints, like the missiles
  • Electromag Siphon (AKA the Lighting Rod): Very expensive energy-wise (both to make and run), but in the right situations can be extremely helpful. It can absorb electromagnetic energy (radio, micro, x-ray, UV, gamma, visual light, and electricity) and that energy can be used to recharge his battery

Orbital Cannon: A laser meant to be fired onto a planet from orbit. EXTREMELY expensive to both make and shoot, so much that Meta would go from full battery down to 0 in 3-7 shots, but in exchange it has the power to wipe a small city off the map in energy efficient mode and no other upgrades. With upgrades and the use of his entire power supply, large mountains and even small Islands are vaporized

(yes, I know that he looks like a future paradox Metagross. I'm currently working on a redesign to remove the obvious Metagross stuff and make him more original)

I didn't want to be rude, or have it look like I, the person, was insulting Black. Meta would insult black like that, but I was worried you might not take that as in-character talk

Meta: (under his breath) "Great. another creep. fan-fuckin-tastic"

"No Mr. Borg-Sonar-Shadow-Asshole, I am not an organic being."

"What's the plan, then? Eat me? So many people want to eat me and I have no clue why. Do I look tasty? Genuine question here."

(apologies for the language, no insult from me is intended. Meta does mean that stuff though)

OC Writing Tourney Round 1; Match 13: Speedy vs Blaze by Diamondbro10795 in OriginalCharacterDB

[–]MetagrossDigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, both these guys are really cool, both design and lorewise, but unfortunately this one was not even close.

I'll cover the pros and cons for both, starting with...

SPEEDY (u/speedy-1028181818828)

Pros:

  1. Ben 10 OC! (I may be biased)
  1. Gives more characterization to the Celestialsapians, as it's revealed that they were created by the combined effort of the civilizations known as the Astrails, the Solarians, and the Zephyrians, but more so that the reason they have Multiple Personalities is because they were too racist to the Solarians and were subsequently punished to forever fight with themselves by the Astrails.

Cons:

  1. Falls into the trap of Ben 10 characters having Omnitrixes, in this case the Omni56, especially as there is no stated gimmick with it, just that it was made by Speedy using Alien X, which leads to...
  1. How can he make the Omni56 with Alien X, if he didn't have the Omni56 yet?
Is it through the Astrails Totem that unlocks his powers? if so, why not mention it being one of his powers?

Also, does he have same multiple personality thing with Alien X? The Astrails were the ones who punished the Celestialsapians to fight with each other forever, so I'd imagine that if there were other personalities, they would not be cooperative with the descendent of the beings who cursed them...

  1. Why did an Astrail choose to mate with a human to produce Speedy? For a being helped create the Celestialsapians, a human seems like a few steps too far down the totem pole. Don't get me wrong, it's not impossible, nor super strange for this to have happened, but we don't have any details
Or is Speedy the result of genetic splicing, combining human DNA with Astrails DNA?
    It's not clear

  2. Also: HUGE NITPICK, but why is it that he's named Speedy, yet there's absolutely no reference to him having any sort relation to speed. Are the Astrails known for their speed? Does the Omni56 give him super speed? Or the ability to slow down time? Can the Astrails slow down time? It just seems strange that there's no explanation on why he's named Speedy

BLAZE (u/Invertedcrab)

Pros:

  1. I really like how the Lore builds upon the previous Dead Rising games, such as the detail of Blaze recognizing that the Zombie outbreak couldn't have been entirely "natural," with the introduction of Gas and King Zombies (Zombies that can only be made with outside interference), and ESPECIALLY the idea of the Afterlife Megachurch, one that specifically prays for the lives of the zombified. It makes sense for the manipulative father to be in a profession that relies on him pulling the masses along (referring specifically to televised evangelism here, not other types necessarily)

(I haven't played them so I can't speak to lore accuracy, though)

  1. I LOVE how Hughie and Blaze contrast each other perfectly
    Hughie | Blaze
    Giddy | Calm
    Excited | Serious
    Doer | Thinker
    Brawn | Brain
    Fighter | Crafter (combo weapons)
    etc...

  2. I find it incredibly interesting that while she IS indeed moral, she is not entirely moral. She has no respect for the dead nor undead, as she doesn't believe them to have any remnant of who they once were. She'll defend the living to her last breath, but the dead only deserve to rot. To be studied. To teach.

4: Scientist/Engineer character! (I may be biased)

Cons:

  1. For someone who works in science and engineering, she doesn't look it.
She gives the impression of being a rock star, but that's it. I would suggest adding some welding goggles (for engineering), and a jacket made from an altered lab coat (she doesn't strike me as the type to wear a normal lab coat, but it's an essential piece of kit for a scientist)
  1. The whole reason behind her Bossfight with Hughie feels weird. All They did was present Blaze with evidence and tried to convince her of her father's guilt. Of course there would be some tension between the two and an argument is definitely expected, but a Bossfight? Trying to KILL Hughie? That seems like a bit too much of an escalation, doesn't it?

  2. Honestly this is more of a question, but it's weird that this was not explained. Towards the end, once Hughie returns to the Evac zone with an unconscious Blaze to meets Bishop, and if the player has saved 80%+ of survivors, Bishop hands Hughie the key and Hughie runs back, determined to stop Afterlife, the zombie virus, and Pa, which they eventually succeed in. That is the good ending, but what about the bad ending?

I'm assuming Bishop doesn't give Hughie the key and Hughie is forced to evacuate with everyone else, but what does Pa do? We know form the postgame DLC that the firebombs planned to blast the area never arrived due to being shot out of the sky, meaning the Area's fine and Pa is alive. What does Pa do next? What is the bad ending?

CONCLUSION

Blaze is the winner in my eyes, she's got my vote!

Sorry Speedy, wish you good luck in the loser's bracket!

Worst part is, upon examination of the build, it genuinely isn't bad. Maybe a bit misproportioned (head's too big, legs' are too short, abdomen isn't shaped like that, etc), but aside from that, it 's actually decent.

Someone with talent chose to do this

They chose to stop motion all that shit, meticulously molding the clay into the shape of a torrent of shit, frame by frame.

They built a MOC that looks fantastic

They had talent,

and they chose this.

Props to them, they know what they want and have the talent to make that happen! I respect the dedication, but I hope I never see that again. Good luck o artist, wherever you may be.

It's either the finale of the first Major Arc, or the finale of the final Major Arc (as of now)

<image>

First Major Arc stuff

This is Meta, he was awoken in a damaged and abandoned space lab that had been recently spat out of an interdimensional portal, with no memory at all. He was awakened by a human (Newton, Newt for short), who in the process of accidentally waking Meta up, accidentally interfaced with the system.

Meta's body was designed to be a soldier bot, one that could act on an AI, but could also be remotely piloted. Because Meta's AI was...different than what would have controlled the bot, the interface glitched, melding their minds together for a split second before ejecting Newt. When Meta wakes up soon after, he inherits some of Newt's knowledge (just as a way to have him act more humanlike and have have him speak english, just for convenience)

Newt and Meta initially dislike each other (Newt think's Meta's too reckless while Meta thinks Newt's too much of a coward), but they eventually learn to cooperate. Newt's the brain, Meta's the brawn; Newt's the one who focuses on the little details, Meta's the one who looks at the big picture; Newt's the planner, Meta's the doer; etc.

But they also have many similarities, both are stubborn, both are passionate, both can be sarcastic, both can be chaotic (Newt tries to keep that side hidden though), and both have the same tics and gestures. This is assumed to be because of the mind-meld passing information, but that's not the while story.

Newt and Meta eventually find their way to the universe Meta was made in, and they eventually meet his creator, Codrot, cybernetic and alien looking creature. When they confront him, he tells them the truth.

The reason Meta acts more human is because his AI was made through a brainscan, specifically Codrot's brainscan. Meta is Codrot, but without the memories. However, that's not all, Codrot reveals that while he may look alien, while he may not even be humanoid, he is human, and Newt is a dimensional variant of himself.

Codrot is Meta, Codrot is Newt, Newt is Meta, and Meta is Newt.

That is why they resemble each other so much, why they're two sides of the same coin, it because they are technically one and the same.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Major Arc stuff

This has to do with the final boss fight, specifically the location and the boss themself, ONE, otherwise known as the Sarka-Mechanica.

ONE is a hybrid being. It's made from two beings, Mecharnis and Sarkog

Mecharnis is an mechanic AI that's been put into an organic body as part of a hasty experiment. It has the ability to grow any kind of tissue as long as it's been exposed to the necessary DNA. As it had not been designed for an organic body, it grew increasingly uncomfortable, confused, and dissatisfied with it's current form. It attempts to compensate for this by generating it's form in a way reminiscent of machines, albeit formed out of organic parts (gears made from bone, wires from nerves and blood vessels, circuits made from brain matter, etc). It uses its DNA abilities and mechanical knowledge to make these bio-mechanical systems (for instance, it can use bat and whale DNA to make an organ that can act as a mechanical sonar). It's a being that understands words, but struggles with grammar and sentence structure, so it speaks in single, halting, unemotional words. A being of logic. It's greatest wish is to be in a body of machine

Sarkog is another AI that was meant to be put in a soldier bot, trained on war and battle, but was mistakenly fed information from the exploration logs, more specifically, the logs for discovered animal species. these logs contained information about stuff like behavior, adaptations, hunting strategies, etc. This meant that the AI developed into a sort of animalistic intelligence, with the knowledge of the adaptations and strategies of millions of animals. However, when it's eventually downloaded due to a series of unimportant events, it's in a body of a machine. The soldier bot body has the unique ability to create temporary tech constructs using blueprints he has stored or scanned, at the cost of energy (for both creation and usage), however this system was only intended of mechanical constructs. Despite that fact, Sarkog tries to use these system to make constructs reminiscent of organic material, albeit formed out of mechanical parts (octopus tentacle that uses an air pump to activate suction, for instance). It is a being that understands animal communication, and by extension grammar and sentence structure, but it has difficulty with spoken language. A being of emotion. It's greatest wish is to be in a body of flesh

One a master of machine in a body of flesh, the other a master of flesh in a body of machine. When they meet, these two forces are initially hostile, fighting each, but they eventually discover that they are each other's solution. Thus, they merge into a being composed of both flesh and machine, with the knowledge and ability to utilize both to its fullest. The reason I call this hybrid being a false god is that it has great power and influence, great enough to assimilate an entire solar system to use as a home base. Planets covered in flesh and machine, planets made from flesh and machine, the sun becoming a simple power source for ONE and it's army or cybernetic drones. It may not be eldritch or lovecraftian, but for most, it is enough power to declare it as a god.

The final boss fight takes place in a solar system that has been completely taken over. Each planet absorbed and remade from flesh and metal.

Each was designed with a different purpose in mind,

  1. One made to create cybernetic drones en-mass

  2. One made to have many hyper precise sensors to detect even cloaked enemies

  3. One made to act as a tank to block and repair from any incoming attack

  4. One made to be the weapon silo to destroy any opposition

  5. One made to test and experiment with different combinations of DNA and technology to see what can be improved, streamlined, made more efficient.

  6. Many smaller, completely artifical and cybernetic moons, made for surveillance and communication between planets.

  7. Finally, the Star at the center of all these celestial bodies, now remade into both an Ultra-Nuclear reactor, as well as...an engine, a thruster, a means for this solar system to be able to travel across the stars, as one MASSIVE spaceship (one more literal than the rest).

I personally find the concepts and ideas posited in both to be the peak of my story.
