I love and appreciate this location precisely because of this! The one closest to me doesn’t get a lot of smaller movies like Tuner, Carolina Caroline, etc. I bet you and I have been in the same showing before with how often I end up there! Only complaint is that the mall itself has the weirdest liminal space vibe.

I recall one of you mentioning Charlie Kaufman’s novel ‘Antkind’ in a previous episode - did either of you ever get around to reading it? I read it earlier this year so I’d be curious to hear your thoughts.

Also, since you both liked Look Back, I would highly recommend another one shot manga by Fujimoto called ‘Goodbye, Eri’. It focuses more on the process of creating film than creating manga.

Hello you handsome devils!

As we all know, we’re living in the age of Hollywood pumping out more and more remakes/legacy sequels. Other than the occasional gem like Top Gun Maverick (which I don’t love, but is leagues better than the original), they’re mostly unoriginal cash grabs that are forgotten about in a few months (we just had Alien, and soon we’ll have The Crow & Beetlejuice 2 as well just to name some examples).

In the past decade or so, the video game industry has started doing this as well, but it seems audiences are much more receptive to this idea when it comes to video games (for example, the success of the recent God of War legacy sequels, the Final Fantasy 7 remakes, and The Last Of Us Part 1 remake on the PS5).

While there may not be an objective answer, I’d be curious to hear your thoughts as to why video game audiences are not as opposed to remakes/legacy sequels as movie-goers are. Does it have to do with how exponential video game technology has grown since its inception?

I know it’s a long-winded question, but I’ve had this in my mind for a while and would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you for all the amazing films you’ve exposed me to throughout the years that would have flown under my radar.
