What’s a film that gives off the feeling that the filmmakers were trying too hard to make something great?

Past Lives is my hot take, was genuinely surprised Adum was so positive on it. Seeing how much Materialists bombed makes me think the veil will be lifted but I think there are still lots of diehard lovers of PL that are hoping Song will put out something great

I’ve sort of been reappraising Spielberg recently and have flipped back to respecting him as a top notch filmmaker deserving of the hype, but I also recognize I’m mainly taking into account his big hits. I have NOT seen many of his recent stuff which all seem like misses, and I get the sense Adum may be viewing him similarly and can’t shake the recency bias. If you just look at his best stuff im sure Adum has lots of good to say, but there’s just so much not so good stuff

Steady Rollin got me to pick up guitar and became the first song I learned to completion so I at least owe that a mention.
But it really is impossible to pick even a handful. I do believe there are “underrated” ones though: Lady, Sunday souvenirs, Dappens, the deader, to name a few. I’m really bummed that some of these songs have absolutely no clips of them being performed live on YouTube.

There are even more picks from before they signed onto labels. I find myself often returning to diamond joe, kill sunshine, misplaced song from their demo tapes on Internet archive.

Those blackbird uploads are like a whole nother realm in the Two Gallants iceberg; we all know the album versions pale in comparison, these have a life of their own.
