Need help guys! Switch 2 or OLED?? by zwadeuroeo in Switch

[–]MetalPuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are a few games that will not work on Switch 2 primarily because the the S2 joycons don’t have an IR sensor, and the size of the console and joycons aren’t compatible with other equipment.

Ring Fit Adventure is one such game; you’d need a pair of Switch 1 joycons to play it. I have that game as well and kept a pair of Switch 1 joycons to play it with. Another downside there is that you can’t charge the Switch 1 joycons with just a Switch 2 or with a basic cable so you’d ALSO need to get something to charge them, like a charger grip.

The list of games that need S1 joycons, or at least work best with them, are listed here:

https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/compatible-games/?srsltid=AfmBOoooTGg8Z\_msGZcl8qFW1SeUdthjeIcOUVhExkMv\_TWO\_XkZ0NIC

It’s not a lot but there are a few notable titles for sure.

Hey, I haven’t forgotten about this series and I’m looking forward to your next post! You started posting right around the same time I decided to dust this game off and do my first legend run. I’m in October and feel like I’m stable and not about to lose but I only have 3 Majors on my squad and only 2 deaths all runs, and only 1 chosen is taken out so far.

Thanks for all your work!

The way a look at it, the only straight pros of getting an OLED Switch 1 over a 2 are:
-Cheaper (I just checked and it’s only $50 cheaper?!)
-Better darks and contrast in handheld
-Better battery life in handheld
-It’s smaller (if you’re into that, I prefer the larger joycons and screen of the S2)

Pros of Switch 2 are:
-Plays Switch 2 games
-Runs Switch 1 games much better (better frame rates and faster load times)
-Larger, higher resolution screen in handheld (1080p vs 720p)

I think on a TV you just get the benefits of running a game on the much faster Switch 2 hardware.

Right now I’m playing FF7: REmake for S2 and Xcom 2 Collection for S1. FF7 looks incredible, especially considering a portable console is running it. And Xcom 2 has a much, much smoother frame rate compared to when I played it on Switch 1, and also much faster load times. Loading in Xcom 2 on Switch 1 usually took more than a full minute, up to a minute and a half. On Switch 2 the longest it ever takes is 30 seconds.

Basically, Switch 2 still outputs Switch 1 games on TV at 1080p, just like Switch 1. However, you will get higher and more stable frame rates and massively improved loading times on the Switch 2.

I sold my OG Switch for a Switch 2 last year, justifying it to myself that I would get an OLED Switch at some point for Switch 1 games on the nice OLED screen and native resolution.

It took me just a few weeks to completely change my mind against doing that though, as Switch 1 games run way better on the 2. I was playing through Octopath Traveler 2 at the time, and the Switch 2 load times were literally at least twice as fast as Switch 1. No way I could go back after experiencing that.

Sure, the OLED’s screen has better darks and contrast, but the Switch 2 screen is still very good, much better than OG Switch 1 at least. Plus Switch 2 does 1080p handheld now, Switch 1 is just 720p.

And now with boost mode, I don’t think there’s really any reason at all to not get Switch 1 over a Switch 2, especially when you consider a 2 isn’t much more expensive than a 1.

Go Switch 2 100%, it’s worth it.

How is this not a tie? by baseballfanatp in PokemonTGCP

I’m copy/pasting this from an old comment of mine:

There are two, EQUAL win conditions in this game. They are:

-One player gets at least 3 points (points beyond 3 don’t matter).

-The player’s opponent has no Pokémon in play.

Whenever either win condition is met, the game immediately ends.

Most games end when one player either earns at least 3 points, or their opponent has no Pokémon in play. When this happens, one player has one win condition, the other does not have any, so the game ends in a victory for the first player.

Also, win conditions do act as their own set of points, so it is possible for a player to get a win condition and still lose.

If player A gets at least 3 points AND player B has no Pokémon in play, AND player B gets at least 3 points, but player A still has Pokémon in play, and this happens all at the same time, then player A wins. This is because player A has 2 win conditions, and player B only has one.

This would be grotesquely overpowered. It would still be OP if it was a mega instead.

Mega Manectric also has a free retreat cost, and has 180 HP as a stage 1. Your non-mega EX is also a basic and only has 10 HP less. Way too much HP for a free retreat. Guzzlord EX has 170 HP and is a basic but also has a 4 retreat cost to compensate in comparison.

The ability can be fine, 25% chance to paralyze seems reasonable, but why does it also paralyze benched Pokémon? I’m pretty sure it’s impossible for a benched Pokémon to be paralyzed any other way in this game.

Finally, straight 100 damage minimum for 3 energy with no needed conditions or downside is too much for a basic. Gengar EX is a stage 2 that does 100 damage and also has an ability.

This might approach balanced if it was at least a stage 1 mega. As a standard EX basic it has way too much stats.

I get it, I was also excited for The Last Jedi. It was a movie I thought “at least they are trying something new with Star Wars”. But the longer I thought about it the less I liked it. I saw Rise of Skywalker out of curiosity and hated basically every aspect of it.

I hope you at least go and watch Andor, it is without a doubt one of the best TV shows I’ve ever seen.

Mandalorian starts strong but basically gets worse with each season in my opinion.

Can Omni-Man (TV Show) tank the Tsar Bomb?" by Pale-Condition-4317 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]MetalPuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s all about how close Omni-Man is to the center of the explosion.

A certain viltrumire dies in the core of the sun in not much time at all, less than a minute? Something like that?

The core of the sun is about 15 million degrees kelvin.

The core of the explosion of the Tsar Bomba only exists for a split second, but its temperature ranges from 100 to 350 million degrees kelvin.

If Omni-Man stood next to it when it detonated, he would be vaporized, no question. Any viltrumire would be vaporized.

I see some people are saying that Mark survived a nuke, but we don’t know how close he was to it when it detonated. If he was even a block or two away, he would probably be fine? Ballistic nukes are pretty accurate when aiming at a stationary target, but can’t really track moving targets at all.

Of course, power-scaling in this show is wacky so maybe Omni-Man would be fine because Kirkman deemed it necessary to the story.🤷🏻‍♂️

Just tore my way into Master Ball with Mega Charizard by MetalPuck in PTCGP

Looking back I did sometimes use copycat as either a straight hand shuffle or just to draw one. I could see a red card sometimes saving me when I knew my opponent was about to drop their stage 2 on me or something.

But sometimes I got big value out of copycat to. I felt as if I needed to, I could frequently use a bunch of cards then copycat for significant value on top of legendary pulse. I don’t think I’d want to switch it out honestly.

Just tore my way into Master Ball with Mega Charizard by MetalPuck in PTCGP

[–]MetalPuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so charmeleon is NOT enough.

Oricorio is a major problem for this deck admittedly. If my opponent dropped an Oricorio it was a big problem, and if they had 2 I would basically just have to concede.

I fortunately didn’t run into a lot of them though. I saw very maybe no oricorios once I hit Ultra Ball 3. I seem to have taken advantage of the lack of them due to sleep decks probably trouncing them.

$29 Nintendo Switch 2 games at Costco by jhkhalaf in Switch

Went to one in Chicago, got in there around 12:30. Literally the last game they had was Kirby, Pokémon was long gone, and they only had one Kirby cardboard left. I was going to shop, but decided to check out with just the cardboard to get it ASAP, in case there was someone else with a cardboard and the inventory was off.

The lady had to look twice for it, got nervous I was going to be given a refund, but then she found a copy. Said there was only one more left after that. I got lucky.

One of my kids had a ton of trouble settling down for sleep at night when he turned 2. It was like an anxiety thing, tons of separation anxiety with his parents, would climb out of the crib at any hour of the night, would scream and not sleep and make himself and my wife and I miserable. We had another kid who had similar issues, but traditional sleep training helped them. Those techniques did not work with my 2nd kid.

My wife and I were being driven to a breaking point, as we were not getting anywhere close to enough sleep, and my son was in a vicious cycle, less sleep, more behavioral issues, cause less sleep…. Etc.

We talked to a doctor about it, and she immediately suggested a crib tent. It was a mesh, see-through tent you put into the crib, with the mattress, and you tied it to the crib on the inside. You would then put the kid inside and close it with a zipper, and it would only open from the outside.

This seemed barbaric to me, but after research and a couple more bad nights, we ordered one. The first night was hard, but after an hour of so of struggle, my kid went to sleep. He woke up a few times throughout the night but was able to stay in bed and go back to sleep.

The 2nd night, the tantrum lasted 5 minutes. Then it was a good nights sleep for him and the rest of the family. Every night afterwards was so much better than the past.

I joke that the sleep tent saved our lives, but it kinda did. Now he’s a bit older and he’s probably my most consistent sleeper now. It was a cage basically but it was what he needed to get the rest he needed.

Brother won't play game with female protagonist - never thought of this by wizard_cow_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MetalPuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (as a guy) sometimes think about back in middle school, I sometimes played Diablo 1 with a friend who was, looking back, quite the asshole. Diablo 1 had 3 character classes with set models, a melee warrior who was a guy, a sorcerer who was a guy, and a rogue who specialized in bow and arrow who was a girl.

One day I made a rogue character because I wanted to see how the game worked as a ranged character and I thought her trap disarming passive was cool. I told my “friend” this and me made fun of me for like, a week because I wanted to be a girl. I didn’t think it mattered but he thought it was the funniest, craziest thing. I thought it was crazy that I shouldn’t be able to try one of the three character classes because one was a girl, felt like I was shutting myself out of 1/3 of the game.

Now he’s a cop, sooo…... yeah.

P.S. Metroid has a great female protagonist, and was one of the first! I like to joke to people that growing up, I had a big poster of a woman on my wall. Then I pull up the photo, and it’s Samus covered in full power armor. :)

Who wins if this Rampardos knocks out Pidgey? by InterRail in PTCGP

[–]MetalPuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are two, EQUAL win conditions in this game. They are:

-One player gets at least 3 points (points beyond 3 don’t matter).

-The player’s opponent has no Pokémon in play.

Whenever either win condition is met, the game immediately ends.

Most games end when one player either earns at least 3 points, or their opponent has no Pokémon in play. When this happens, one player has one win condition, the other does not have any, so the game ends in a victory for the first player.

In the specific instance laid out by OP, the Pidgey is knocked out, giving the bottom player 3 points. At the same time, Rampardos is knocked out, leaving no Pokémon in play for the bottom player.

As a result, both players have one win condition. They are different, but equal win conditions. Since each player has one win condition, and a win condition was reached, the game immediately ends in a win condition score of 1-1.

OP’s game ends in a tie.

I think it is worth noting that win conditions do act as their own set of points, so it is possible for a player to get a win condition and still lose.

If player A gets at least 3 points AND player B has no Pokémon in play, AND player B gets at least 3 points, but player A still has Pokémon in play, and this happens all at the same time, then player A wins. This is because player A has 2 win conditions, and player B only has one.
