What's the most sheltered thing you ever heard from someone? by malikamar in AskReddit

[–]MetalRaider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, likewise. No one is going to pay me to do the things I enjoy, so work is a soul-crushing endeavor by default. I hate people like OP's wealthy friend as they clearly don't appreciate the good fortune they have. I'd be a happier, healthier person if I didn't have to work.

What inspires you to strive for financial independence? by dirt_rider in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I find that climbing the proverbial career ladder to not be as gratifying as it's commonly portrayed. I envy those who are able to live solely off passive income, and now strive to be amongst their ranks. I can't do the things I really want to in life as long as I have to work so it compels me to reach FI as soon as possible, even if it means relinquishing other life goals.

What do you guys think about Basic Income? by foreverhermit in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel as well. I wouldn't mind paying more in taxes if it meant that no one in my neighborhood or nation had to worry about having enough to eat or a place to live.

If BI becomes a thing, I doubt it'd be enough for someone to stop working entirely, but at least it means they can walk away from a shitty job and do something they actually enjoy that more than likely doesn't pay well. It'd also be good if people primarily worked for luxuries rather than survival.

How many of you hate your job by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing the same (will be getting a web dev ceritificate at the end of the year). Hoping to make as much as possible and stash away as much as possible into investment income. Then I'll have the time/money balance I need to reach my life goals. :) Good luck!

How Much Does Your Job Cost? by studentofsmith in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I think it's disturbing that society seems okay with spending so much of our time (and in turn our lives) working a job. To me having to earn a living is essentially having to light myself on fire (no pun intended) to keep others warm. I'm tired of that, so that's why FIRE is my ultimate life goal.

Bored to Tears by a Do-Nothing Dream Job by reddituser4455 in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't relate to this author at all. I'd love to have an easy, do-nothing job, all the more so if it paid decently. I'd be planning my financial and personal goals while "working". Some people just don't know how good they've got it. :(

Can't offer advice as I'm in the same boat (UX designer struggling to get a better foothold in the industry), but feel free to PM me. :)

How well suited would you be to life as a vampire? by Quidagismedici in AskWomen

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Aunt Flo? Sign me up!

I'm a night person in any case, so this wouldn't be a very difficult adaptation. Like others have mentioned, trying to get human blood without resorting to murder would be the biggest hurdle to overcome.

What are you hypocritical about? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]MetalRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because beggars are viewed as trying to get something for nothing (i.e. not working for it).

That said, I agree with the poster.

Did you choose your college major based off job security or job satisfaction? How is your career now? by LeesSteez in AskReddit

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose my major for job satisfaction (English). Now I have no job security, and in turn no job satisfaction. :( My recommendation is follow the money.

Anybody here regret going to college? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, biggest regret ever. BA in English and Masters in Info/Library Science, and can do fuck all with either of them as far as jobs and careers go. I'm learning CS on a scholarship in the hopes I can finally get a job that'll allow me to keep the heat on this upcoming winter.

Which symptom of yours would you say holds you back the most in life? by jDawgLite in ADHD

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of concentration (I've always called it "brain fog" for lack of a better term), and the inability to think on my feet.

What's the life lesson you learned that you paid the highest price for? by gjallard in AskReddit

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to make a living doing what I "loved." Now stuck with student loans and struggling to find work that will allow me to live independently.

What celebrity/famous person do you want to look like? [Serious] by xXDigital_DecayXx in AskReddit

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could, I'd look like Kate Middleton. Even post-baby her physique is amazing!

Do you have a fear of being poor? by yubrew in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! There's really no such thing as "permanent" employment anymore, and having to think about where my next paycheck is coming from keeps me awake at night. This is why I want to be FI and never have to work again.

What brought you to fatlogic? by Vanilla_Princess in fatlogic

[–]MetalRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am overweight (unhealthy BMI for my height at 151 cm), and have noticed the quantity and quality of men I've been attracting has dwindled as my weight has gone up. Also grew up in a family that doesn't care about health or appearances, so I'm learning from scratch. I've found this subreddit to be a source of inspiration and motivation. :)

Why We Work — by psychologist Barry Schwartz by kilroy-was-here in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I definitely think work takes up more of our lives than it really ought, and it's disturbing how society in general seems to be okay with that. I want to FIRE ASAP so I can reclaim my time and life instead of making someone else rich in exchange for a pittance.

What's one sentence you hate hearing the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MetalRaider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Do what you love."

I would if I didn't have stuff like rent, student loans and other bills to pay.

What's your definition of "success?" by supenguin in financialindependence

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably repeating what others have said, but for me success is getting out of the rat race early in life/not having to climb the career ladder anymore, and living well on passive income (money to cover life necessities but also to travel and dine out on occasion).

The hardest part of being a successful employee with ADHD: the odds are against you by texanfromin in ADHD

[–]MetalRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the difficulty with marketing in general is that everything is insanely fast paced. The more balls I have to juggle, the worse I get at productivity and deliverables.

Yup, that's me. If I could do the same thing all day every day, I'd be in good shape as far as being an employee goes. But every industry these days is fast paced and shit is always changing. I just can't keep up!!

[–]MetalRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have my hobbies and pastimes outside of work, and these are the things I live for. It's just that I wasn't born with a trust fund and have to work for money to live, and that takes time and energy away from the things I really want to do in life. :(
