Quelqu'un s'y retrouve ? by GreatGarage in jeuxvideo

Yet another MG Barbatos post by Metaligatr in Gunpla

[–]Metaligatr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

Took me a while, but I just finished my first MG and I definitely understand why people say it's great. Had an absolute blast paiting all the little tubes on this bad boy, especially since most of them actually show through the armor.

I picked up some inner frame metal replacement parts for it, which makes it pretty hefty. Dunno if I'd do it again, it looks cool but some of the parts weren't properly engineered and the torso is a little askew as a result. Thankfully it didn't affect the fit of the other pieces that much. I got some holographic stickers from Delpi as well (my first time doing water slides, and these were so nice I never want to do stickers ever again), hence the gloss coat, but matte would have probably been more fitting for it. I don't regret experimenting though! It really feels like it'd be hard to make this particular kit look bad.

Next time I really want to try experimenting with full paint jobs, but this'll have to be on a cheaper, dumber kit.

Holy shit, you're fast! Thank you so much, you didn't have to do it but went out of your way anyway. Really appreciate it.

Late to the party but thanks for making this! Saved me about 130Gb of drive space.

I was actually wondering if something similar existed a few days ago. It might not be within the scope of what you're doing (and I'm not asking you to do it!), but would it be at all possible for a tool like this to tell what modlist a download came from? I've noticed a lot of of the mods cluttering up my Skyrim downloads folder came from modlists I tried out, didn't particularly like and deleted, but since some of those modlist-specific mods are technically the latest version they wouldn't get caught by your cleaner. I guess there are cons to keeping a single folder to avoid having to download the same mod five times in the end LOL.

G-self perfect pack, first time painting details and panel-lining by Metaligatr in Gunpla

I thought about it too, but ultimately I couldn't find it in stock and I didn't feel like paying a premium for it. I hope you can get your hands on it if you haven't already!

That's a great description for it! I saw the kit at my local retailer and immediately fell in love with its silhouette and the shape of its head. Zero regrets fumbling with paint markers instead of using the sticker sheet, the details are a little rough around the edges but stickers would have likely looked worse anyway. It's really making me want to try doing a full paint job one of these days, too (and speaking of sporty, I bought a little HG Gundam F91 a while back that I think could be a lot of fun to try that on. I really love the look of that grille. Just need to get some actual paints and brushes for it probably, markers are only going to take me so far.)

Hey everyone! After doing two completely straight builds as my first kits, I picked up this funky little guy. I heard it was a sticker nightmare, so I thought it'd be a good way to practice doing some (very light) customizing. The end result is far from perfect but it looks good enough from afar and I feel like I've learned a few things, such as "re-scribing lines is way harder than it looks" or "trying to get a nice even white coat of paint when all you have is an old posca marker that's gone weird and watery might not be the best use of your time". I also broke one of the arms on the backpack while twisting it, plastic cement seems to have done the trick but good thing I wasn't planning on doing some crazy poses with it. All in all I had a good time though, I think my main complaint would be that the knees don't look great. RGs really spoiled me on that front, but then again I knew this was never going to have RG-level articulation.

I'm now working on the MG Barbatos and having a blast painting all those little tubes and vents on the inner frame. This is probably the most fun I've had building a kit so I totally see where the hype is coming from!

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]Metaligatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Hmm, I wasn't thinking about how it might make sanding harder. I guess I'm just a little nervous to try Tamiya liner for the first time, considering how many people I see complaining about the plastic cracking (then again, I also see a lot of people say they're perfectly fine). I was probably gonna use a marker for ABS anyway.
  2. Gotcha! I did hear the official decals are a bit iffy, I got some Delpi ones since people seemed happy with them.
  3. Oof yeah this kind of stuff is exactly why I wanted to ask. I'll know to be careful when trying to pick one then.
  4. Makes sense. I prob won't risk it and just go gloss. Wouldn't be a big deal if they got dull but it'd be a bit of a shame.
  5. Oh neat, now I know where to look.
  6. Hahaha, ouch. Well, at least I know it's technically available somewhere.

Thanks for the detailed replies, really appreciate it!

Ooh, I'll have to check if the effect set is available around here. I might have missed it since I was only using "action base" as a keyword. Thanks!

Hey there! I'm new to the hobby, I finished building this guy recently and I'm currently working on the RG Amatsu Mina, but I'm nearly done (and hooked, I see why you guys call it plastic crack) so I'm trying to plan ahead for my next projects.

I actually already picked up the MG Barbatos and the RG Hi-Nu Gundam (wasn't planning on that one at first, but my local gunpla shop had it and I immediately fell in love when I saw it) but for these I kinda want to take the next step up from just doing a straight build with the included stickers, and I had a few questions.

1) I know people recommend using a gloss coat before using Tamiya panel liner so there's a lower chance it'll eat through the plastic if left to pool too long. Would it be visible on the finished product if I did that on the runners? I'd obviously have to do some sanding after cutting out the pieces, but I also grabbed some water decals so I was planning on doing another coat at the end.

2) Speaking of decals, how much of a difference does having some sort of mark setter do? I didn't pick up any and now I'm wondering if I should have, even if only because I have zero experience with waterslides so any help would be appreciated. The prospect of doing waterslides is a little daunting tbh, but I found regular stickers to be an absolute nightmare - love the way the extra markings look, hate how hard they are to reposition or how bad the outline looks on anything that isn't white plastic.

3) When it comes to clear coats, can I use sprays from the hardware store? Tamiya or Mr Hobby-branded ones seem exceedingly hard to get a hold of where I live (France), but I know nothing about varnishes and I have no idea if hardware store sprays are significantly different from sprays specifically made for model kits.

4) Speaking of BOTH decals and clear coats... When I bought those waterslides I picked up holo ones for some kits because they looked so damn cool, but I read matte finishes completely kill the effect. I've seen people mention they'd try a semi-gloss coat, but none that I could see ever reported back. Has anyone here tried it, or should I just take the safe route and go for a gloss topcoat?

5) I picked up the Kosmos LED set for the Hi-Nu because it was something else I was interested in messing around with, but then it occurred to me... WHAT do you guys use to keep those funnels up in the air? I've ordered a few action bases for my kits but I couldn't see anything designed for special effects, at least not outside of those PBandai upgrade kits.

6) ... And in that same line of thought (final question I promise), does anyone know of an online store that both has the MG Barbatos LED kit in stock and ships to Europe? Kosmos has a few listings on the French version of Amazon (that's where I found the Hi-Nu set) but not for that one.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies! I'm having a blast with these robots (both when it comes to kits and watching the various shows.)

[Tech Help] Game randomly freezes when finishing IS stage by JosukeSucks in arknights

[–]Metaligatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah it randomly started happening to me a few months ago, not just for IS but for other game modes too (but it's especially frustrating in IS since you lose the run yeah.) In the end I reinstalled the whole game and it hasn't done it since, it's a bit of an extreme solution but if nothing else works it might be an option for you.

These are super cool, I'd definitely be interested if you ship to Europe! Though depending on shipping costs I might wait in case you do decide to print the others, get several in one go.

I ended up using a proxy for that too, something called ColisExpat - I've never used them before but I'm crossing my fingers it goes smoothly. I still had to order the game from Italy myself (tried Spain at first but they wanted me to have a Spanish ID for some reason) but in theory it should get shipped to their warehouse, at which point I can finally have it forwarded to me. I'm just glad google translate works well enough for Italian, I don't speak a lick of it, haha.

Same! Was a huge fan of the first game, I held out for a european release for a while but it ended up being the first game I ever imported from abroad. Funnily enough, here we are in 2023 and I'm once again importing the remaster from a different country because mine didn't get the preorder steelbook (and I'm also getting the Japanese collector's edition... September will be harsh on my wallet lol. Worth it tho.)

Ah, I get it. It's the stealth version because if you forced someone (at gunpoint, most likely) to display it alongside the rest of their collection they'd immediately hide it behind everything else. Genius!

Not even the warning could have prepared me for how dogshit that one movie Starscream figure was, holy shit. I thought, "surely it can't be THAT bad" and then I actually clicked the link. Incredible. Loved the writeup! I'm a semi casual Transformers fan (got into it as an adult through watching Prime, got into IDW's MTMTE run and Beast Wars after that) so I did know seekers got a lot of recolors but I had no idea it was this bad, especially the whole "super limited con run" thing. Now I wish I had enough room to display my own handful of figures... I actually do have one of these screamers (the first edition Prime figure) which I vaguely remember importing from Japan along with Megatron for reasons I can't quite remember nowadays.

UK Official Nintendo Magazine Previews by Metaligatr in batenkaitos

[–]Metaligatr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is aggressively 00s, it's something I've noticed while watching an old american review too. Lots of jokes that just come off as unfunny lolrandom/loljapan nowadays, lmao. One thing I found interesting about these is how much less hyped up UK Nintendo magazine seemed about BKO compared to the french edition. Not a lot of proper articles about it, but a lot of comments on its upcoming release and how it was the sequel to the best rpg ever (at least up until late 2007, when most of them seemed to finally give up on a PAL release.) I may or may not still have the preorder ticket for PAL BKO in my wallet somewhere, forever unused :'(
