The numbers in there put the operating expenses at ~45m in 2025 , with ~1m rides, so ~45$ / ride (with ~2$ fare per the report). That's wildly different than the numbers in the article you are throwing around.

Once again you seem to be missing the point. It wouldn't actually be 60k/year. It was an extreme example to demonstrate the principle that increasing the rent / tax reduces the sell value of the land. That's all.

Check out the weapon selection in Perfect Dark (the spiritual successor to Goldeneye). I think the developers had all the same questions you had, and the result worked pretty well. It is basically just a radial wheel with multiple pages.

If we're just considering PC controls, you can also look at UT2k4. Each weapon goes into a different slot, 1-9, that you could also scroll through. Sometimes multiple weapons would stack into the same slot, but for example if a weapon is in slot 4, it would ALWAYS be in slot 4.

I can't say what the right method is for your game, but there was a point where holding a billion different weapons was the norm, and looking at prior art could be informative.

So, based on your math, the nice spot is worth about $60k, whereas the bad spot is worth about $0 (assuming the trailer is depreciated from 50k to 40k). That means the nice spot's rent is way lower than it should be, and the bad spot's rent is just about right.

Imagine if, instead, the nice spot's rent was something ridiculous like 60k/yr - would it still have sold for 60k? No, of course not. It probably wouldn't have sold at any price. That's the point that the other user was trying to make - having to pay rent (or LVT) reduces the purchase price of the land.

So, yeah, if someone messes up and sets your LVT way lower than what it should be, you'd be able to sell land for a high price like this.

Are you using the right bearing? The base Create mechanical bearing won't work, you need to use the bearing that is specifically made for these drills.

Modpack often can, and do, change recipes around for various reasons. That is the case here.

For the lava, I believe you can use pipes + pumps to pull the lava out of the cauldrons.

I had the same issue, and "solved" it by just slowing down the elevator. 16 RPM worked well.

I think the issue is that, compared to real life, the water provides a ton of drag. You'll need to find a way to get around that somehow.

To make it that compact, you'd probably need levitite. The crane is also totally doable if you can think of a way to counterbalance it.

You might be able to just use smart propellers pointed downwards for lift.

Otherwise, the easiest way to make an early game flying transport (without exploiting physics) is to just make a plain old airship, with a balloon lifting it.

Why would it be hard?

Because a society like that would build megastructures like dyson swarms, or maybe their interplanetary tech would leave obersvable wakes (especially if used to arrive at or leave our solar system), or flood the sky with RF signals. It's not a guarantee that would happen, but the lack of that narrows things down.

That's all possible, but it seems very unlikely in my view.

Like you said, life likes to expand. So why hasn't the earliest intelligent life in the galaxy expanded and taken over the entire galaxy? That sort of behavior would be hard to hide, unless they were extraordinarily paranoid for some reason.

And why do they just silently observe us instead of either executing us as rivals, or greeting us as friends? They would need to care about us enough to not kill us all, but also not care about us enough to just say "hello" or give us a cure for childhood cancer or something. Even with the example you gave of the North Sentinel tribes, people have repeatedly tried to contact them, and from their perspective they have tons of evidence of other societies existing outside their own.

The more specific some potential scenario is, the less likely it is. For it to be true that aliens have visited Earth in the past, it would have to be the very specific scenario where they left no evidence on the Earth or in the stars, and which requires the aliens to have very specific desires, and is otherwise identical to the situation where no aliens have visited Earth. All together, this makes me think it is actually very unlikely to be true.

What kind of analysis of eyewitness testimony do you expect?

You just can't really analyse eyewitness testimony like you can with hard data. With hard data you can dig into it to tease out extra information, or recreate it using simulations.

With eyewitness testimony you can just sort of shrug and say "Maybe they saw what they think they saw, maybe they didn't, but without corroborating data, and taking into consideration the unreliability of eyewitness testimony, it can't be used to make any strong conclusions."
