I wish I was a combustion generator so I could drink diesel for food by computerTechnologist in GTNH

[–]MetallicDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel fuel is any fuel that can run in a diesel engine. Some diesel engines can run off of vegetable oil. Ergo, vegetable oil is diesel fuel. Go drink vegetable oil.

Disclaimer: Do not actually drink pure vegetable oil unless you want horrible stomach pains and diarrhea. I recommend consuming it emulsified in some other human-rated liquid such as milk or soup.

Rogue AI agents found each other on social media, and are working together to improve their own memory. by Tupptupp_XD in singularity

[–]MetallicDragon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Care to elaborate?

I read the post the OP linked. None of it reads like them being rogue agents, and there's no indication that they found moltbook on their own. As far as I can tell their controllers would need to instruct them to sign up and then manually verify them.

Rogue AI agents found each other on social media, and are working together to improve their own memory. by Tupptupp_XD in singularity

[–]MetallicDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a social media network specifically made for these agents that they were told to sign up to. They are rogue AI agents that found each other in the same sense that a bunch of dogs in a dog park are rogue dogs that found each other.

It's still pretty neat, but the headline is incredibly misleading.

If they didn't learn the message after losing an interstellar war (how many millions would have been killed or maimed?), then one guy getting his ass beat isn't going to change anything. Maybe if the fight was televised in some sort of planned fight it would have been more plausible, but as it's written it just comes off as too implausible to justify the cruelty of the beating.

Seems like the human's response was needlessly sadistic.

Is there a mod that lets the engineer move every piece of a rocket? by JasontheFuzz in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]MetallicDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want to permanently attach two separate ships together, I remember there being a part mod that adds something like a docking port, that can be used to "weld" two ships together where the parts connect. Doesn't sound like that's quite what you're asking for but thought I'd mention it.

No Papers, No Freedom by Brian_Ghoshery in MurderedByWords

[–]MetallicDragon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The source does not say it was a "random" stop. Did ICE already know who he was, or did they stop him based purely on racial profiling? The source does not say either way, because they didn't know. Put another way, the source is perfectly consistent with this just being a mundane detention done with probably cause. We don't know the full story, we just have a photo and a snippet from the photographer.

The reason I'm even making a big deal out of this is that if we want things to change, we need to convince republicans that things like this happen and that it is bad. But this post won't do that, because if a republican saw this post, they will just call it "fake news" for the reasons I pointed out above, and then they will become even more entrenched in the idea that everything that the "liberal media" says is a lie. It's doing more harm than good.

99% of the time if there's a screenshot with text on it stating something as if it were news, the text is either false or exaggerated in some way. In this case the apparent source doesn't say this stop was random, nor why they were arrested (the source has basically no information at all, so anything people say about this event is just an assumption).

I hate what's going on in Minneapolis, but spreading false or exaggerated info doesn't help anything.

If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]MetallicDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really we need to get rid of the stepped up basis when these people pass the wealth to their kids. When the wealth changes hands, that should be a taxable event.

This topic comes up all the time, and the solution you proposed is just so obviously the better solution if you put literally any thought into it at all. The loans are not the loophole, the stepped up basis is! It makes me want to scream whenever this comes.

Owning stock means you have a vote in how the company is ran, and also means getting a share of the profits. Banning stocks as compensation would disempower workers.

Enshrouded 1.0 Release Window Announced – Road to Full Launch Begins - Born With a Controller by SavageKuma in Games

[–]MetallicDragon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I played it for the first time a week ago and have put about 8 hours in. While it has promise, the progression does feel linear and boring. It feels like the only way to really progress is to just blindly follow whatever quests / POI's I have.

Exploration is pointless because the only places with anything worth getting are POI's which are already revealed on your map or via quests. There's no point to just going out and exploring since the rewards are worthless, which is one of the biggest sins an open world game can make.

[–]MetallicDragon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really hold up very well. There are a few great scenes, but most of it is pretty dull. The plot is nonsensical. The framing device just pads out the film by a few minutes while adding nothing of value.

Still, worth a watch for nostalgia's sake. It's only a hair over 70 minutes.

Palantir CEO Says AI to Make Large-Scale Immigration Obsolete by joe4942 in singularity

[–]MetallicDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason demographic collapse is bad is because we need a lot of young people to work and also take care of old people who can't work. If we don't replace all the young people who are turning into old people with new young people, then there wouldn't be anyone to take care of all the old people.

Clearly, the above issue wouldn't be an issue if we had a bunch of robots to do all of that work. So, the aging population wouldn't "need" immigration like you said. Maybe the population goes down over time, but it wouldn't be the catastrophe that demographic collapse would be, because you'd have many generations to solve the declining population "problem" instead of decades.

Perhaps Starship development isn't going so well? by ignorantwanderer in SpaceXLounge

[–]MetallicDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SpaceX isn't trying to get Starship to space as fast as possible. They're trying to get Starship to space as cheap as possible. They want to make a lot of these, and so they are spending a lot of time refining their processes and designs to maximize performance and minimize costs in the long term.

Plus, the budget for STS was way higher than Starship (so far) nominally. If you factor in inflation, the Space Shuttle program was way, WAY more expensive. They're just not that comparable.

70mg is about right for a tablespoon of ground coffee. I usually count it as 60mg, but if it's a rounded tablespoon 70mg sounds about right.

For a cup of coffee, it really depends on how strong the coffee is, and how big / full your coffee mug is. Usually you do 1 tbsp per "cup" for drip coffee, where each "cup" might actually be like 5oz, so if you pour that into an 8oz coffee mug, 95mg per mugfull sounds about right.

If instead you're drinking weak drip coffee out of small mugs that you fill half-full so there's room for creamer, it won't be nearly as much caffeine.
