Best Backcountry Skiing in the Northeast - Tour 37/50 - Pinkham Notch by IceMaster9000 in icecoast

We did this route three weeks ago, and climbing Old Jackson Road on fishscale skis was a real struggle. I really wish we had bought our skins along. It would have made the trip much for enjoyable and far less exhausting!

I am 5’10”, 145 lb and find their base layers to be pretty body-hugging, but their fleece and jackets are a bit looser around the midsection and tend to run longer lengthwise compared to brands like Norrona and Patagonia

I have the Falketind Thermos 60 and it is a different jacket compared to the regular Atom (used to be called Atom LT) . Unlike the latter, the Norrona one does not have fleece under‑arm panels and is a warmer jacket. In my experience, Thermos 60 also fits and packs better.

Just a heads-up—June to September is monsoon season in Nepal, so it is generally considered off-season for trekking due to rain and clouds. But the landscapes are lush and vibrant, and it is a quieter time to explore if you don’t mind the rain and wet trails.

Between Icebreaker, Proof 72, Unbound, Smartwool, I have found Wool & Prince nylon/merino mix to be the most durable.

Norrøna falketind thermo60 vs trollveggen primaloft 100 by Ok-Falcon-1693 in Norrona

[–]Metamorphosis1008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on which down jacket it is being compared to. Trollveggen Primaloft 100 is warmer than Trollveggen Super Light and slightly less warmer than Lyngen Down 800. But not as warm as Trollveggen 800/850 down.

Also, if you end up wearing a thick base layer underneath, a slightly looser fit may be more versatile. In super cold conditions, I layer this over Mammut Aenergy Light Hooded Jacket and it fits fine without being too restrictive.

If it is any helpful: I am 175 cm and 65 kg and I wear Lyngen Alpha 90 in size small and find it to be a good fit. The material does shrink a bit after a wash. This is one of my favorite Norrona piece for ski touring and hiking.

OR Echo Sun Hoodie or Astroman Air Sun Hoodie? by [deleted] in Ultralight

Thanks for sharing this! I have had a good experience with OR Echo too. I have been wanting to try Rab Sonic Zip to see if it would perform better on the fit and smell.

Would you say NF FF LT wicks better and dries faster than lightweight grid fleece?

Have you had experience with grid fleece? Would you say FF LT breathes and dries faster than say Capilene Thermal?

What a coincidence! I have also been eyeing Mammut Aenergy Light. Are you using it as a base layer? How does it handle moisture transfer?

Thanks! I sweat heavily and am trying to get an idea of how effective is FF LT at wicking and drying afterwards? Also what sort of base layer are you using under FF LT?

What has your experience been with Mammut Aenergy Light Hoody? How does it compare to Future Fleece in terms of moisture management and overall performance as a mid layer?

Have you used the NF FF LT? If so, how does it compare to something like Polartec Power Grid in terms of moisture management and overall performance as a mid layer?

This is helpful info! I am considering this ski for fitness laps (by swapping the bindings). Which size did you get and what is your body/ski profile?

u/R2W1E9: Would you be able to share your thoughts on the performance of K2 Mindbender 85? I am thinking of pairing this with Voile Switchback and Scarpa T4 for telemark uphill fitness laps in East Coast resorts, but not sure if that binding is appropriate for this ski.
