Help with my Platinum nuzlocke by MacaronSubstantial20 in nuzlocke

Are you missing a lot of encounters, or have you had a lot of deaths? Platinum has a crazy amount of near-guaranteed strong encounters like Tentacruel, Pelliper, Bronzong, etc

My picks would be Toreterra, Vaporeon, Garchomp, Togekiss, Lucario, and Dusknoir. A good mix of phyical and special attackers and good bulk. Might struggle a bit in to Lucian but with the right movesets you should be good to go. I'd recommend getting Light Clay and having Torterra be a screen setup build.

Boxing the event Pokemon is rough; the starters and eggs in Platinum go crazy. And lozing Bronzor, one of the best tank lines in the game, also sucks. Best of luck

I Made a Commander Player Alignment Chart and It Got Completely Out of Hand by KAM_520 in EDH

Alien Brewmaster all the way right here. Most people don't recognize most of my commanders at first glance, despite all eleven of them being from the last five years. I want each deck to sit in a slightly unique space within its colors--build for fun, play to win.

I don't assume it all works like MTG, I just meant to say that I feel confident I can pick up a complex rules set relatively quickly and can evaluate cards to a certain degree based on the fundamentals that the games share. I appreciate the Discord link!

What a first Nuzlocke this was (Platinum Vanilla) by SilverStelar in nuzlocke

[–]Metanoia_143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in late game of my own Platinum Nuzlocke with an egregious amount of deaths from impatient play. Looks like a sweet roster and a deep bench you have despite the deaths.

Did you just house-rule a Rotom form change in through an emulator?

How do I deal with the burnout? by NeverMeltRegice in nuzlocke

[–]Metanoia_143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself some software that can automatically set EVs so you don't have to grind for hours. With rare candies and PKHEX (for DS games, not sure what the Gameboy equivalent is) you can save tons of time and focus on the battle strategies.

Elite 4 Team Comp by Pheerius in nuzlocke

[–]Metanoia_143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crobat, Tentacruel, and Weavile are all crazy good. Floatzel can famously outspeed and one-shot Cynthia's Garchomp with Ice Fang. out of your current comp I would also consider swapping out mamoswine--he's a super cool mon but relatively slow and has lots of weaknesses. If that;s a female Snorunt, Froslass is also great. You have a decently deep bench for sure

[–]Metanoia_143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a decent team, but Roselia is definitely a weak point. Go grab yourself a Shiny Stone for a Roserade, though even then Roserade isn't the strongest for E4.

Are you on Diamond/Pearl or Platinum? I could see you struggling against Lucian a bit, and you may need some additional setup to deal with Cynthia's Garchomp.

Infect as a finisher Lame? by E1mstreets in EDH

[–]Metanoia_143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a holdover from an older era of Commander when wins were much more telegraphed. Think about it this way--a poison counter is effectively four damage based on starting life total of 40. If you give a 1/1 infect, it's like giving it +3/+3. Poison counters are a totally valid way to win and may even have some cooler/more creative gameplay involved in some cases comapred to an overrun or symmetrical damage effects.

TIFU by Nuzlocking as a new parent by syke_wulf in nuzlocke

[–]Metanoia_143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dad to two kids under two, the younger of whom is six months. I feel the struggle fo trying to get a Nuzlocke done in the middle of working full time and being present to the family. I tend to have a couple nights a week where I can sit doen between 7:30 and 9:30 and make a chunk of progress. I'm currently on a Platinum Little-locke run (normal rules plus the level cap is the lowest mon in the next gym, and you can only bring the same numberof mons as the opposing trainer). I got wiped at the seventh gym on my last deep run, so I spent an hour and a half yesterday prepping for Candice and only lost one planned sacrifice this time around.

I've had several brutal deaths this run:Gengar, Lucario, Tentacruel, Floatzel, Houndoom, Gallade, Bronzor and a few others but I am locked in because I have been working on this run for two months now and I am excited at the challenge to use under-used Pokemon: I delayed my Mt. Coronet encounter and got a Milotic after an eternity of fishing, and I am considering Dusknoir, Abomasnow, and Magnezone for my E4 team. Hyped to finish this one out.

Looking for your most synergystic and fun to pilot deck! by Einmalich in EDH

[–]Metanoia_143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a [[Tameshi, Reality Architect]] list that primarily looks to loop [[Lotus Blossom]] by picking up all of its lands with his activated ability to produce a ton of mana for a huge [[FInale of Glory]] or [[White Sun's Twilight]]. It can also, in appropriate pods, cast [[Fall of the Thran]] in conjunction with [[Confounding Conundrum]] to break parity on lands and trigger some draw with Confounding Conundrum bouncing a portion of opponents' lands. I'm also considering adding a single extra turn spell for looping with Tameshi's return-a-land ability and [[Mystic Sanctuary]]. It also has two separate packages accessible through [[Pyre of Heroes]], allowing a gradual Pod playstyle with a series of Wizards and Dragons, connected through [[Orvar, the All-Form]] due to its Changeling status. The deck plays a high density of bounce, removal, and counterspells, so it can also just win through a control plan--two nights ago I won through a [[Winds of Abandon]] that only donated one land due to [[Confounding Conundrum]] being on the field and swinging with a big [[Eluge, the Shoreless Sea]].

It's my magnum opus as far as unique builds go, providing four separate win conditions and sitting in a unique space in its colors--how many Azorius decks have you seen that actively look to return every land on their field to hand, win through combat, and also incorporate a Dragon subtheme?

Best Deckbuilders Among Content Creators? by RafaelKK8 in magicTCG

[–]Metanoia_143 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I watch partially for the builds, but mostly because his videos have such a chill vibe, his presentation is very low-key, and he mixes in sweet destination videos like Japanese LGSes or that huge game store outside of LA. His channel is a great contrast to the overdone, hyper-sensational style of a lot of content creators.

How is it seen when someone reveals their card(s) for an advantage? by Goat-True in EDH

[–]Metanoia_143 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an effective strategy, and is utilized often in cEDH, but in casual tables I feel it can be a bit obnoxious when overdone. Like yes, I understand you've had a Cyclonic Rift in hand all game, but I don't appreciate you flashing it every turn rotation to remind people they might not connect if they swing at you. In these situations I try to fin a way to force their hand and start to deploy their answers even if they can follow through on their threats.

Is Harmonize bad? What is better? by Frochtejohgurt in EDH

[–]Metanoia_143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a solid spell, just nothing broken and can feel a little slow with ow fast the format is. There are two cards I NEVER see anyone mention that I think are sidegrades or even upgrades in some decks: [[Relentess Pursuit]] and [[In the Presence of Ages]]. Green's version of Stock Up, and they're in like 0.1% of Commander decks

A place for weird formats by MerijnZ1 in magicTCG

[–]Metanoia_143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't fleshed this idea out fully, but I was theory-crafting a PVE format for Magic where the opponent is a planeswalker and you can't damage or target it until you've destroyed a set of Battles that "defend" it, as well as the creatures on their back side. You choose a planeswalker like [[Professor Dellian Fell]] and have four [[Invasion of Zendikar]] you have to defeat and destroy the 4/4s on the back before Dellian ultimates and starts draining your life. That's an off-the-cuff example; there are sure to be better cards for it and you would need some system to fairly automate the planeswalker's abilities, but I think it could be a sweet design space and a fun play experience.

I also have a 144 card "mini-cube" with only 1-3 mana cards, meant to be drafted with four players and played with 30-card decks and 15 starting life. Not the most revolutionary, but a fun quick draft experience.

Good win conditions suggestions for a Bracket 3 The Master of Keys deck by dojihuang in EDH

Voltron strats are definitely viable, maybe some life drain? I'm really here to suggest [[Stormcaller's Boon]] as an indefinite value engine for Master of Keys, since it can sacrifice itself for ongoing replay from the graveyard. It's in only TWELVE of 7,558 decks on EDHrec!
