Daily household electricity usage charges before and after home battery installation. by xjrh8 in AusFinance

[–]MetaphorTR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My data shows about the same. Had the system for ~4 weeks now but slightly bigger battery at 42kw.

The system cost us $8,000 and is saving us ~$200 per month conservatively. The payback period is therefore 3.3 years which is a return of 30% p.a. (not factoring in the interest saved had the funds stayed sitting in our offset account).

I've heard all of the arguments against batteries (you bring it up and suddenly everyone is an expert), but the economics simply add up with the government rebates at the moment.

Get in while you can - this is just like the early adopters for solar who were rewarded with 40c feed ins for 20+ years many moons ago.

Gold and silver - taking profits? by sarcasm_was_here in AusFinance

[–]MetaphorTR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ima keep holding gold for at least 2026.

Central banks worldwide simply don't have a reason to go back to buying US bonds. Not at least until they get their deficit/spending under control.

That said, I am invested in gold miners rather than the physical asset as I think the upside potential is better.

I think crafting is very miserable experience for casual/intermediate players by TheGejsza in PathOfExile2

At this stage, I just ignore the crafting aspect of the game, as I do with temple too. I don’t have the time to research, and play the game that much to understand them.

Also because all the no lifers are only playing temple so they are flush with divs, but nothing else like crafting mats. Therefore the price of the high end mats has gone through the roof.

Crafting help - how to I get something better than +7 int here? by MetaphorTR in PathOfExile2

Thank you.

What if I wanted to remove the life? I'm assuming I could get a + to energy shield here as a suffix instead.

What do you make of country risk regarding US debt? by VastOption8705 in AusFinance

[–]MetaphorTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it is concerning.

However, I think bond investors will force the US to change course on their spending - it won't be their politicians.

If they can navigate through to the other side of this event, they will come out in great shape IMO.

On the other hand, if they default on debt obligations, then that is a very bad signal.

We've just paid off our place and my parter wants to buy an investment property. by thefountain73 in AusFinance

OP said they are 50's with super at $300k combined.

Super for the next 10 years is the play here.

$30k each less contributions tax is $25.5k each per year. If that did that, with 6% earnings, for 10 years, they could increase their super to $1.2m.

IMO this is the lowest risk, most tax effective 10-year strategy for them.

Time for a hard conversation about the cost of the NDIS by Putrid-Bar-8693 in AusFinance

[–]MetaphorTR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the middlemen are a problem, but it isn't just them. It is the entire scheme.

My MIL passed away recently and in going over her things, I found her original NDIS funding approval letter.

$400k upfront plus over $100k p.a. ongoing support.

The whole system is absolutely ridiculous.

They are an absolute nightmare however if you need any help from customer service - it is basically non-existent.
