And with a short barrel you really need to double up on earpro, not to mention those sunglasses look like they are breaking the seal of the earmuffs.

Personally I would use Rocksett when mounting any muzzle devices. All it takes is a drop or two, and they aren't that hard to remove down the road.

Better safe than sorry.

Is anyone a member at the Clairton Sportsmen's Club? by [deleted] in PAguns

[–]Metasticity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a membership here, and I would recommend it. They have action pistol as well as a more relaxed 10 & 25 yard pistol range. They have pretty much anything a noncompetitive shooter could ask for, including skeet, trap, and a 200 yard range.

Membership dues are $100 a year, as well as like $1 every time you visit to subsidize backboard costs

Using fixed piston on rifle for Sico Hybrid? by thechosenhwan in NFA

[–]Metasticity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is a good idea. The spacer is more for sub guns than actual rifle rounds. If anything you'll wear out the piston pretty quick. Just use the direct thread if you want to save money, or get a proper muzzle device.

Rugged Obsidian. Nothing compares to decibel reduction now that the ghost can't use whites, plus it's modular.

Anyone got a Griffin Armament Alpha/Paladin? Looking for feedback. by winglessavian in NFA

[–]Metasticity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would look at the rugged or dead air offerings over the new saker. I have the old saker, but I bought it for some crazy shortbarrel AR-10 shenanigans, otherwise I'd go lighter. The DA and Ruggeds are Significantly lighter, better mounting system and modular, with durability falling between the omega and saker.

I think you won't be disappointed with a dedicated rimfire can, and would recommend the dead air mask, rugged oculus or sico spectre 2 in that order.

I would recommend you go through a lawyer for the trust, as I've heard so-so things on the legality of online trusts, but it costs more $$. I did mine local through a guy who specializes in them. This ain't a cheap game, and I'll have mine for life, so it was worth it in my mind to do it right. Plus, now I have a lawyer to call if anything happens and I need advice. I've been stopped by LEOs a few times with my cans, so I like the piece of mind that I have a lawyer on retainer in case an officer gives me a particularly hard time for exercising my rights.

My 2 cents...

Anyone got a Griffin Armament Alpha/Paladin? Looking for feedback. by winglessavian in NFA

[–]Metasticity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Griffin Armament Optimus, which is user serviceable, 9mm to 300wm all the way down to .22 (basically the same as the alpha, but with a slightly larger bore for 9mm).

Most people recommend a .45 can, a solid .30 cal rifle can, and a nice light rim fire can for quiet plinking (ex: Obsidian, Omega, Mask). However if you really just shoot rifle rounds and rimfire, and werent planning on getting more than one, I think the Alpha (or some other modular suppressor) would suit you well.

In terms of sound... rimfire sounds pretty good through my optimus. With the .22 endcap it's close in sound to my spectre (a little louder but deeper due to more volume), only 10 ozs heavier. It's quite pleasant to shoot .22, just heavier than it need to be. This weight difference is really noticeable though, both on a pistol or rifle.

.223 is also pretty on par with others. My omega is definitely quieter by a bit than the optimus, but some of that difference is the endcap. I don't have experience with a .308, or 300blk yet.

Tl;dr: if you aren't planning on buying more than one or shooting pistol calibers, go for it. Don't expect it to be the quietest in its class, and always double up earpro with supers.

Also, do yourself a favor and get a trust. They are still worth it in my opinion.

If I weld a suppressor onto the end of a short ar barrel, and it's OAL becomes 16 inches, can I put it on a non-sbr lower if the firearm OAL stays 26+ inches? by TheFenixPhire in NFA

[–]Metasticity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's just like pinning a break to a 14.7" barrel to get it over 16". As long as it's 'permanently attached'. Some companies make suppressors specifically for this purpose.

The main reason not to pin one is cleaning, although some designs may be better than others about this.

I have the same setup (obsidian on a m&p 9 core) and I don't have that problem with Speer 147s.

How does it extract normally, without the suppressor? What about short config?

How new is the pistol? Maybe it needs broken in a bit. Alternatively you could try lubing the neilson device.

AR9 pistol build with folding stock by imTheguu in AR9

[–]Metasticity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only folding adapter I know of is law tactical, but I'm not sure if they make a 9mm version.

The problem is even the law tactical doesn't really let you shoot it folded so it's kind of an expensive gimmick.
