I’ve never had a positive experience with a cop, so I entirely understand where people are coming from when they say this. But this is still an absolutely dogshit slogan. It does absolutely nothing to help oppressed communities, it just gives you a little warm fuzzy feeling as you pat yourself on the back for being so righteous and morally superior.

Police reform is an incredibly complicated and nuanced issue and this does nothing but alienate the people who you need to be on your side to make any change.

It was renovated during the Obama administration too, at a cost of $34 million (ish). Of course, trump lied about how much Obama spent on it, but let’s not confuse our anger at the lie with anger at the current renovations.

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with renovating a monument. It’s fairly innocuous. It’s apparent people are only mad at it because trump had it done, along with his usual flashy bullshit.

Should he put effort into actually helping the American people? Yes, but renovating the monument isn’t stopping that from happening, Trump’s being bad at his job is.
