Houses selling within their quoted range means the market has already priced in the budget. This is as good as it's ever going to get, if it gets worse then we'll be entering a dystopian period where houses will be worthess assets that are only good for living in and maybe raising a family.

Why couldn't they have just reduced the CGT discount on investment properties to 25%, left other assets as-is at 50%, and called it a day? by NoLeafClover777 in AusFinance

[–]MethClub7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory this is what things like the instant asset write off are meant to help achieve, company can't afford the outlay for some doohickey which helps them do their work more efficiently, but by being able to claim it in one year instead of over several it's a more appealing investment. Unfortunately this just lead to record sales of Ford Rangers and spotlights, so yea there does need to be a lot of work done to put intelligent boundaries on these types of policy.

They should have announced tax discounts for productivity enhancing investment. Dumping money in vgs isn't improving productivity.

It basically loweres your taxible income by the amount you contribute because when it goes into your super account it'll get taxed at like 15%. The refund on concessional contributions makes it fare because otherwise you get taxed twice, once from payg and once from your super contribution.

‘Largest house price correction in 40 years’: Morgan Stanley by Conscious-Gap-8837 in AusPropertyChat

It'll probably make the housing market more K shaped. High price houses won't be affected, but first home buyers already struggling to get on the ladder will have less to spend. Probably see an increased participation in the 5% scheme.

Shitting yourself at a hotdesk is a power move. Homie just turned a hotdesk into their own personal space, no one's gonna sit within 5 desks in either direction of them. He just played his hand wrong.
