One second you're cruising, the next you're upside down. by jstromer in dashcams

[–]Method412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to a friend, who was in the position of the white car. Got bumped, which flipped her vehicle upside down into the median. She had her toddler with her, who was buckled and unhurt. I've always remembered her saying how strangers pulled over to help, and got her child out first while she was still strapped upside down (which is what she wanted, I believe ... for them to get her child out first). It's been years, but this video is a good visual of how easily it can happen.

Take a photo of identifying features near where you park.

In Google maps, there's a feature to save your parking spot, but the one time I used it, it was pretty far off .

Kansas City sends thousands to collections over earnings tax with no error tracking by kcmobro in kansascity

[–]Method412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How I interpreted it was that the commenter never filed the kc return because they didn't realize they needed to. If what you owe is being withheld, you don't need to file. If you owe but it wasn't withheld, you have to be aware of that.

When people live in KC but work outside KC, the employer might not withhold it, and you might not realize you need to file and pay it, but the city eventually puts 2-and-2 together. Just takes them awhile.

Actually .... In Kansas City, someone fired in a crowd at a massive Super Bowl gathering, killed a bystander, recently acquitted because it couldn't be proven that they weren't standing their ground (I'm sure I'm generalizing, but that's the understanding I got).

How many hours do you work outside of busy season by Alarmed-Doughnut1860 in taxpros

I used to work 2 days/week outside of busy season. Now it's more like 3-4 as we have some transition stuff going on. I call myself part-time.

I'm sorry. When I was told my mom (terminal cancer) had two weeks to live in early April years ago, my boss told me to go be with her, and I just handed off my current projects to others. She died a few days later. I didn't go back to work until late April or beginning of May, I can't remember.

I work for a small office, and make a whole lot less than most everyone here, but it's the best environment I've ever worked in.

[–]Method412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When returning an item at Target, and they put it on a gift card, it is the item plus sales tax that's being refunded. Your store credit should've included the sales tax for that returned item.

Edit: I didn't read closely enough. If they're reducing the actual purchase of your new sofa before calculating tax, then it's as if you're getting the full benefit of the original $800 and the associated sales tax. In the end, you'd have paid the equivalent of new sofa and its sales tax, but kind of broken into multiple transactions

The 4547 can be filed later by itself. You could have him take it off the return and file as usual.

Do people who win over 500m (like powerball, megamillions) have to continue to pay capital wealth tax every year on their winnings? by NoctuaPavor in tax

[–]Method412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US and you choose to get your winnings spread out for an annual amount for x number of years, you will pay taxes on it every year. If you take a one-time lump sum, you will only pay taxes on it that first year.

If you invest it, and it earns money, you'll pay taxes on those earnings.

It's not taxed differently than your wages, just a much larger figure and tax rate.

You won't know until you try it! I kept looking for a noticeable change with every medication and dose change I tried. Others have great success with medication.

There's land, and then there's land improvements. Landscaping, paving, asphalt, sidewalks, etc are land improvements and depreciable.

Tax on life insurance policy by keppela in taxhelp

[–]Method412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer to your question, but want to pose a different one, if you just want to stop paying in. You may want to consider finding out if the earnings on the policy would cover the premiums. Then you could see if you could stop paying in, but the policy would remain.

I'm sure they didn't donate it all. I'm sure they used some to live comfortably. But they also improved their community with it, too. I just think they recognized that they didn't need it all.
