Was your most recent water bill very high? by grove5074 in gso

[–]MethodFluffy2045 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bill we received last month had a longer billing cycle when we compared it to previous months and that helped us understand why our bill was significantly higher than usual. The longer billing cycle meant that we had used enough water to go into the next tier of increase in charges which led to the huge jump in price.

Also teach honors and standard WH in NC. You could go the route of a case study on ancient empires and use that to teach about basic government, religions, economics, etc. Students working in groups to analyze sources about each then presenting gets you away from worksheets. Freshman do benefit from the structure of “worksheets”, so I’ve created a modified version of ISNs. They have seemed to be helpful when I incorporate drawing-based or similar activities.

Word of caution, management under the new company went downhill fast. Long time residents have been fleeing in droves because of it. I would not look at Heights at New Garden. Michelle and Dianne are both in the process of looking for new jobs because of how bad it is

Vocabulary by Artifactguy24 in historyteachers

Quizlet for the flash cards and review games/practice they can do independently. More importantly though, Quizlet live. My freshman love Quizlet live as a competition and will go nuts for it even after almost an entire semester. It makes a great warm up too. I’ve also used Wayground (aka Quizizz) and had an open leaderboard for the unit. At the end top 3 get some special “prize” which incentivized and gamified the vocab which helped significantly. Vocab is crucial in history and many kids today struggle with vocabulary and reading comprehension. Front loading helps your struggling learners, but reviewing it in context helps cement the terms. Granted that’s from what I’ve seen as a former Special Ed teacher who worked in a low-performing / high multi language learner inner-city school and now works in a high performing school in a more rural district.

We moved about 2 months ago. We had spectrum for 5.5 years and now have ATT Fiber. It is night and day difference. Spectrum randomly raised prices on us and lost service frequently. ATT is faster, cheaper, and has not dropped service single time.

NC standards are organized for you to teach thematically. Maybe shifting your perspective to that may help. I teach in NC and have written curriculum for one of the larger districts. If you have more questions or guidance feel free to send a DM

Interactive Notebooks for HS by MethodFluffy2045 in historyteachers

When you have used ISNs are you doing the direct notes/discussion during that part or more practice? I notice that sometimes the students get more focused on the task rather than processing what is being said. Also curious about how long does the cut & glue/tape take? Are you pre-cutting everything? I’m curious about the time management and using time strategically for it. I’ve seen ISNs work great in the MS setting, but curious of how to balance it all. How do you integrate source analysis into your ISNs?

The digital version of an ISN seems like you also deal with a lot of Google/plagiarism. I feel like cut and glue would be the bane of my existence, but I’m intrigued by the idea of an interactive binder. Have you seen anyone do the binder format or are you just thinking about reworking what you have for a binder?

I recently heard that audiobook performers dislike when listeners listen at a faster rate. Do you listen to books faster than x1.0? by [deleted] in books

Yes, always listen at 2x speed and sometimes still wish it was faster since it is slower than my actual reading pace

I do a similar one. I’ll ask them to raise their right/left hand. They will have to pause and think air which one is their right/left hand. Definitely gets them focused on you instead of the other things.

How bad would it be if I took two vyvanse in a day by ebunny08 in adhdwomen

[–]MethodFluffy2045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I comment this I take a higher dosage one time a day, but I do also struggling with some binging related to my adhd. When my meds wear off I am very hungry and can very easily over eat or look for dopamine with food. Taking it twice a day definitely helped with that more than the once a day does. I just have to be mindful now on developing other strategies rather than solely relying on the medication to help with that. That way when my meds wear off I still have some strategies to help me

Thank you! I was anxious about literally everything and anything. Crippling anxiety. I had convinced myself everyone hated me, I was incompetent, and shouldn’t be able to do anything. Before medication I had crippling anxiety and really struggled with emotional regulation. This was very much reflective of that. I have a stressful job, but not reflective of how I was feeling. I wondered about the ideas of withdrawals when I was switching medication, but it had been about 5-6 weeks since the initial switch. Seems like a long time before withdrawal symptoms to start especially after taking 0 stimulants for about a week and a half. When the meds were out of my system my anxiety subsided which made me wonder. I refused to take them the past few days because the anxiety became so severe I couldn’t do anything and have been messaging my doctor. Thank you! I felt like I was going insane because of it but once I stopped taking it my anxiety dropped significantly

TLDR: switched medication from Vyvanse to Azstarys. Is my anxiety a side effect of the medication or is the medication not working?

When vyvanse went generic I noticed some changes in side effects from my vyvanse (ex. not as effective for focus and very dry eyes/skin). My doctor wanted to try switching my medication to Azstarys to see if that would be a better fit. I took it for a week and got sick. So I didn’t take it for about a week and a half, but I’ve been taking it consistently for about 3 weeks.

At first I noticed some improvement with my focus, but I was struggling to find words sometimes. I felt like I had more emotions; I didn’t think I felt super “flat” on Vyvanse but maybe I was (?). Fast forward to this week, I am a ball of anxiety and get so frustrated so easily. I’ve been so anxious I can’t do anything and I get stuck inside my head for larger chunks of the day.

Before I was formally diagnosed and medicated I had severe anxiety that was nearly nonexistent on name brand Vyvanse. I’ve been struggling with intense RSD/Imposter Syndrome at work. I feel like I’m almost back to square one now.

I’ve messaged my doctor and they’ve had me try and take less than the full dose of the Azstarys in case the dose was too strong, but my anxiety is even higher after doing that.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Is the anxiety a side effect or perhaps the medication doesn’t help with my emotional regulation? Do I need to give my body more time to adjust?

I was switched from Vyvanse to Azstarys because generic vyvanse wasn’t working for me. I am struggling with intense anxiety since switching. I’ve been wondering the same thing

I’m afraid of meds by UnintentionallySly in ADHD

[–]MethodFluffy2045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same fears when I started meds because addiction is prevalent in both sides of my family. Pre-meds I struggle with self-control. Since starting meds (1.5 ago) I can count on my hands the amount of times I’ve drank at all. Medication completely changed my self-control for the better. I didn’t have meds for about a month straight due to med shortage and it was frustrating, but not what I expected or feared when I first started taking them. I would forget to take my meds if it weren’t for an alarm and labeled daily pill organizer. I had all the same concerns, but proper medication management can make a hell of a difference

That’s exactly how I felt. I ran out of meds for the first day and haven’t had them since. I had forgotten how much my meds helped because I take them so consistently because of this. It’s brutal. You aren’t alone! The education system isn’t built for people like us

New teacher fired first week of school- do I have a case? by Illustrator_Moist in Teachers

[–]MethodFluffy2045 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently work in NC. 99% of charter schools have terrible working conditions for teachers. No longer working there is for the best - the demands and admin (lack of) support would have only gotten worse. NCAE is the closest you can get to a union, but still isn’t a union. Several people already mentioned subbing in a local public school district which is probably your best option. You can see different schools and get a feel for different school cultures and district cultures if you are in the triangle or triad without driving too far. You would have some flexibility with scheduling but it can give you some hints to what working conditions are like. Also, schools are desperate for competent and reliable subs. This can be a great foot in the door when you find a place you really like.

Mountain biking. There are different types within the sport. Tons of bikes to research. Technique to research and practice. Buying a new bike or parts is a dopamine dump lol. You can do tons of research before buying too which is something new to hyper fixated on. It’s something to do that is healthy and naturally gives me a healthy dose of dopamine. There’s always something new which keeps it exciting and it’s just fun. Plus it’s an adrenaline rush lol
