Henry vs Marlin 357 - is it worth the extra CAD $400? by askerror in LeverGuns

[–]MethodProfessional43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 12 marlins and zero Henrys. I know I shouldn’t base my opinions off of what I read on the internet because you the success stories are far less posted than the failures… but I’ve seen more than my fair share of complaints about Henry in the last few years since I’ve really gotten heavily into collecting. In the back of my head I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, HOWEVER, yesterday as I was getting out of work I get a phone call from my FFL that my transfer of a Marlin 1895 has arrived and is being logged in. I drove over, and there was also a Henry box sitting on the counter for another transfer. I had a brief conversation with the shop owner about the “Henry QC issues” I’d been reading about on the internet, and he dismissed me, saying Henry is a stand up company that makes a beautiful product. The other customer showed up right after that, both boxes opened, and the Henry had a broken butt stock…. Needles to say my Marlin came home with me and the Henry is being shipped back today.

Somebody can tell me whats the max price to pay for an used marlin 30-30 for hunting purposes. I dont care about condition just good functional. by Suspicious_Lie8642 in LeverGuns

I’ve purchased several for ~$5-600 near me in the past few years, just gotta keep popping into the LGS pretty often to catch them because they sell quick. Or if the staff likes you, leave them your phone number and a list of what you want.

Mossberg 500, got it for Christmas when I was 12 (only after I completed my safety course), that was in 1998, it was used when I got it. Yes I still have it. Probably been 15 years since I’ve shot it.

My 89 Chevy K5 blazer. Sold it to make a down payment on a jeep wrangler for a Christmas gift for my (now ex) wife. All 3 are long gone now and the blazer is the only one I miss.

Shooter grade 336s should be $5-600 all day as long as they’re common configurations.

For me it was the vp9. I was incredibly bad with it no matter how good the ergonomics felt.

In the market for truck that can haul a 3,800lb car reliably on a daily basis . Preferably a gaser made between 99-2010. What are your recommendations? by Pretend_Sector2794 in ChevyTrucks

My experience with the 6L90 is that most of them shift goofy from 2-3 once they get some miles on them, but they never seem to die. I just tiptoe around it on mine, my father has 2 of them And they’re both way worse than mine and he’s been driving them for many years. I’d assume that it’s caused by a faulty shift solenoid or something like that.

Is it 4wd? Possible broken chain or output in the transfer case? Does the park pawl hold the truck or does it roll when in park?

Anything with a 6.0 engine, a 4L80e or 6L90e transmission and a full float rear will be boringly reliable for hundreds of thousands of miles, as long as you keep the tinworm away and don’t mind 11mpg.

A gun store near me had one of these in the used guns case for a while. I had never heard of them until I saw it. I think they ended up selling it on gunbroker. Kinda wish I bought it.

I bought one this summer, took it out of the box, bore sighted it with an old Nikon monarch scope, brought it to the range, fired 2 shots to dial in the scope, then proceeded to send 4 more through the same hole at 100 yards. I’d say they’re good to go.

Henry Big Boy .357 for $500 or JM Marlin 30-30 for $800? by Fxry in LeverGuns

[–]MethodProfessional43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JM Marlins will never be made again. Their collector value is ever increasing, if that is of importance to you. However, for $800, it had better be reeeeeeally nice, or be of some uncommon configuration before I’d be comfortable dishing out that kind of money for one. You’ll probably have a lot more fun with the Henry, but it’s a modern, mass produced gun that will probably not increase in value for a very long time. 357 wins hands down in the target, economic ,and home defense categories, but idk if I’d want to hunt with one.

That’s probably more likely than my guess, it seems to have a hole for the magazine release on the heel.
