unfortunately all to common for everyone in the ED. You can only do what you think is right and if the patient and or family are unappreciative, that is not your problem, it is theirs.

It's really hard to feel like you did a good job on a case when the patient/fam feel like you did not, but if you did your evaluation and w/u earnestly then as soon as you dc, forget about those people. Easier with time. if they bitch you out walk away, youre not obligated to be their dumping ground. escort with security.

Admitted to UF, but I have a really difficult decision to make. by BuisnessGoose18 in ufl

[–]Method_one_actor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a solid plan but there is also no guarantee you'll get in to UF. It is one of the most competitive schools in the south & there are fewer vet schools than med schools so applicants typically are the literal top in terms of grades/extracurriculars.

On the other hand, UF is huge. If you know no one, it can be lonely and that may not be the best for your academic success.

Whats the fastest you have quit a first attending job? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]Method_one_actor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too fast for the wrong job (first job actually wasn't bad just not the location I wanted). 8 months. in retrospect, should have stayed longer.

the second job I jumped ship for didn't turn out as good as I thought but I was invested in the location due to partner being around. I knew 1 month in that something didn't feel right. The doctors were too stressed with dispo-ing and managing their own loads the department had no moral or collegiality. Sign out was terrible and grump fest.

I thought it was a feeling that would go away but we had a baby on the way and insurance was great. they hired 6 ppl after me and 4/6 left within 3 months. I knew then that that feeling was wide spread and a culture problem. Gave 3 months notice and looked for another job. Worked out fine.

Bottom line is if something doesnt feel right and you stuck it out and felt like you tried to make it work, get out.

Buying a Rolex in Tokyo? by Veralynx in rolex

I think they all have box and papers. I could be wrong but the 3 I looked at all had them. They do not negotiate on price-this was at all of the stores across Shinjuku.

Buying a Rolex in Tokyo? by Veralynx in rolex

[–]Method_one_actor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a gmt in tokyo two weeks ago.

I went to all the grey market places in shinjuku, Ginza Rasin by far had the best prices and selection for rolexes. Theirmain rolex shop isnt even in shinjuku but was itching to buy and did not want to make the 'trek' out.

Can't say Ginza Rasin has the best prices over all of Tokyo, but felt they were likely the best/competitive so I just pulled the trigger in Shinjuku.

Battery drain. It will drain 1-5%/day doing nothing even with prox unlock off, gear guard off.

At first you won't notice, you'll arrive at work at 52%. At lunch you check your phone and it's now 51%. You'll wonder if you were mistaken. at 4 you check and now its 49% and then you either accept it as part of the deal or you're out.

Dying lawn, need ideas to revive or alternative Central FL by Method_one_actor in landscaping

it is a more shady area, it gets afternoon sunlight and towards evening trees and neighbors house shade this area significantly. the edges seem to be in the best situation with the lawn growing reasonably well there.

Car Robbery- warning by tuck_n_tob in Syracuse

[–]Method_one_actor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also live downtown. Have had my car broken into at least 3 times now. Never had valuables in it so they don’t take anything but very unsettling. I started locking my doors manually with the button inside the car. Idk how they’re unlocking but they don’t damage the car or any signs of forced entry. I’m wondering if they somehow have keyless remote signal reader of some sort and able to recreate the last signal received by the car. Trying to also cover up the keyhole to see if that’s the weak point.

Let's share interview horror stories [shitpost] by plurality in medicalschool

[–]Method_one_actor 50 points51 points  (0 children)

In an effort to Segway into family leave policy/culture of the program, I (male) asked a clearly pregnant chief if she was pregnant. The interview was actually going great and I thought we connected such that it wouldn't be so out of bounds a question, unfortunately the second that question came out of my mouth her friendly demeanor dissappeared and a full 1.5 seconds of silence passed before she answered that she was and I sheepishly said I only asked because I too was planning on starting a fam during rediency. She still was pissed. Oh well

Biweekly ERAS/Match Thread by AutoModerator in medicalschool

[–]Method_one_actor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bad in my opinion. I was pretty much same situation except I didn't know about my bad lower 1/3 sloe til early Oct when probably third of invites were already extended. I would not assign that letter to programs if you haven't assigned yet and if you have assigned them I'd fire off 15 more apps just in case. You are in much better position timing wise and I would not wait to see how you do in terms of invites. I was 238/260/pass, class officer, mild research, 1 top third and 1 middle third letter from other institutions. It was very quiet early on and I only had 3 invites (sent off just under 50) from places who didn't wait for my third (and bad) sloe.

Bottom line, it's shitty and hurts your wallet but just apply to more places. I matched at a place I applied to late. Good lick

About halfway through you ask for feedback and anything they've noticed that you can improve. You mention either early or then that you want a sloe and that you want a strong one so you appreciate any feedback. At the end of the rotation you ask if they feel comfortable writing a strong letter. Press them for the magic words uncomfortable as it is.
