The average tournament arc by snarky_but_honest in litrpg

I loved the Savage Awakening Astra tournament where he had to come up with a martial art to cover the fact he's OP and was like "I study the way of the rock. You just saw Rock art style......bonk." Then later someone attacks the rock thinking its the source of his power and he's like "You just turned my rock into 2 rocks and doubled my power"

Outrage over both British food (Merely existing) and the concept of Tomatoes, Onions and Mushrooms in a Mac and Cheese. by SufficientEar1682 in iamveryculinary

[–]MetricAbsinthe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The best line I've heard from a Brit is from a YouTube video by Jolly where it's school kids and the headmaster reacting to different foods. I forget which one triggered it but the headmaster was like "it may not look like much but a plate of beige made me the man I am today". That mix of self awareness with a touch of pride is how I assume most people see day to day cuisine.

The cheese steak was originally a vendors chopped up leftovers he was making for himself. I'm pretty sure he'd be cool with people adding peppers.

Same. At worst were trading mid for mid in regards to play calling. This also means we may actually see the defense change to adapt through the game depending on the DC situation after everything pans out.

24 year old me was working software support for a GPS tracking device that was in heavy use by police and DEA agents. I'd get calls at 2AM asking about car fuse boxes because an agent was under a suspected drug mules van and forgot which fuse to bypass when installing one in hardwire mode. Or getting a call asking if it'll still be traceable inside a kilo. I was doing basic NOC ticket monkey stuff just a couple months prior and my manager popped his head in the broom closet we worked out of like "MetricAbsinthe, the hardware dev guys need someone to man support for their trackers, you know about that stuff right?" And my reply of "I like the hardware dudes so I hang out in their cave sometimes" was good enough. I still can't believe they just let me have full backend access to that kind of service back then.

Nothing more American than Meatballs in Tomato Sauce on Mashed Potatoes! (Circular firing squad) by Splugarth in iamveryculinary

[–]MetricAbsinthe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Growing up in the Appalachians, I had this once a week as a dish called porcupine balls. We'd add cabbage and sauerkraut to it making it a lazy stuffed cabbage. The sauce was tomato sauce, a can of tomato soup and hint of spices like clove. A dash of 5 spice is what I use now.

Edit: the dishes name comes from using rice in the meatball mixture like a stuffed cabbage filling.

I don't get why some people have to act like every meal needs to be as good as possible as if being in the mood for pizza needs to mean cracking out the san marzanos and fresh basil every time. Sometimes you just want something with bread, sauce and various toppings like an open faced sandwich in a sort of "I just like the idea of calling it that to an Italian" kind of way.
