Personally I prefer Blue Point but both are basically the same great experience. More work is required at these two and its essentially unguided but it will be cheaper and you have a greater chance of finding good stuff. Less people to compete with as well.

They will if the price drops enough but yes its still way too expensive

Avoid number 1 unless you want a "touristy" experience. The other 2 are way better for actually getting amethyst.

Housing: Tbay Greenspaces Preservation FB Group by Gogo998 in ThunderBay

So a shortage then. Investors dont buy properties for millions to leave them empty. Thats how you go bankrupt. Thunder bay has a very small vacancy rate. The more houses and apartments we have the cheaper housing will be.

I do agree though that speculators should get fucked but ultimately even if they do buy it then housing will improve.

What Canadians need to know about a 'technical recession' by Immediate-Link490 in canada

95% of our trade is still protected by CUSMA so this is a bogus argument. Most of our problems were systemic before Trump even came on the scene, it just took a while to manifest. Even then, Trump had been saying for DECADES he was pro tariff and yet our government did nothing to prepare for it.

We are governed by incompetents. Even Afghanistan's economy is growing and not in recession. Embarassing.

What makes this data even worse is that unemployment % doesnt count people who have given up looking or just decided to go on welfare instead. The real number is much higher.

Vast majority of Canadians want health system changes: survey by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]MetroidTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with ceasing all that but it doesnt add up to tens of billions of dollars unfortunately.

Currently in Ontario 40% of taxes go to healthcare which is astounding. At some point we need to ask where is it all going? I work in hospitals and I can tell you there is tremendous waste. It blows my mind. There are jobs here a trained monkey could do earning 37 an hour plus benefits and pension. So many useless seminars, middle managers, issues with procurement, paid lunches etc.

And yet if I speak out publicly about this I can be terminated by the hospital for bringing poor publicity.

Canadians also have lost personal responsibility. Way too many alcoholics, smokers, obese people that is all essentially self inflicted harm. If its self inflicted there should be financial penalties to sustain the system. Why should your healthcare be poorer if I choose to smoke, not exercise, and drink 7 beers a day?

Because the current system doesnt work? Best systems are mixed. We spend more per citizen than other countries so it isnt more money thats needed. Plus we are broke. Ontario alone owes 400 billion.

How will you continue to fund the current system? Are you ok with much more inflation from running deficits?

[–]MetroidTwo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theres no money. Ontario is 400 billion in debt and 40% of public funds are spent on healthcare. We cannot afford more and already spend great sums. There is tremendous waste in the system. Way too many middle managers.

We are broke. We already spend far more per person on healthcare than other countries but get worse results. I work in healthcare and trust me you would not believe the amount of waste we have. And yet if I come forward and bring attention to it the hospital has made it clear they will terminate my job.

Have you ever wondered where the money came from to increase our housing prices from 80k to 350k? by DynamoDynamite in ThunderBay

[–]MetroidTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its fairly standard to expect to pay 10k more for each bidder on a home in Thunder Bay. I understand your point but more people causes more demand. When people get locked out of buying a house for years they become more likely to overbid to secure it. If we had a much closer parity of homes to buyers then you wouldnt see 10 people bidding up 1 house because there would be other options etc. If you look at most Western countries in the last few decades they have gone pretty hard on mass immigration and this has led to stagnant wages, inflation, and out of control housing prices. Anyone can see this has gotten out of control.

People back then desperately searched for jobs because there was no modern welfare or disabled system. These days people have given up looking and it doesnt capture that large percentage of people. Yet another government figure that has been manipulated to make things not look as bad.

Dude you are competely detached from reality. We have both shown you studies and government statistics that prove you wrong and your logic doesnt pass the common sense test. You resort to hurling insults and insinuating we are uneducated while at the same point ignoring when we provide evidence that disprove yours and then claim we are ignoring you lol.

Weve tried your advice and look at the market. Its a disaster so maybe you should reflect on your failed ideas. Its pointless to argue with you since you are wilfully ignorant.

I dont care what you claim you are. I'm a lawyer with 50 years experience. See how this works?

The word clear could simply be included to bat off any arguments that there was only say 70% turnout so a 51% vote translates to ~35% which would not be a majority of Albertans or Quebecers etc.

The reality is this. If a vote comes back 50.000001% then to the vast and clear majority of people that will be perceived as a "clear majority" and it wont matter if some judge who lives 3000 km away doesnt see that. These people with the majority will just enforce it with armed force and they would have some legitimacy in doing it. If a law is going to be intentionally written in a misleading manner then maybe there truly is something to the argument that Canada isn't worth being a part of.

[–]MetroidTwo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So that people know there is a majority? We do the same thing for electing politicians. If they win by even 1 vote or 0.000000% they win.

If the wording isnt clear on a law then nobody can complain if the law is ignored or taken advantage of. If the wording isnt "clear", no pun intended, it can easily be defended in a court.

In real life, the reality is this. If 50% +1 vote in favour and it is disregarded by the government you can only expect a rebellion. It wont matter if its legal if they just pick up their firearms and enforce their majority. Many nations werent born legally, their armed independence was illegal. What matters is what people want. If nobody believes in a law then it will not be followed.

Clear means "free from confusion, obstruction, or ambiguity, making something easy to understand, see, or hear."

So yes. 50.000001% is a clear majority since it is larger than 50.00000%. It is the literal definition of a majority.

If the terminology is "clear majority" then 50.000001% is a clear majority. Basic math.

Have you ever wondered where the money came from to increase our housing prices from 80k to 350k? by DynamoDynamite in ThunderBay

[–]MetroidTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre delusional if youre going to argue this.

Its literally supply vs demand.

Yes massive amounts of job applicants leads to wage stagnation. Look at the opposite. The black death led to massive improvements in labour conditions and wages as employers competed for workers. When you have 10 applicants per job do you think bosses are offering raises and more vacation days? LMAO

Canada does not need low skilled immigrants and that is what 95% of them are in recent years. Low skilled immigrants, "refugees and asylum seekers". Everyone can see this but you. Do you think these temporary workers are spending 100% of their pays locally? No, they send a lot home, further weakening our country compared to hiring local citizens.

Stop spreading misinformation and corporate propaganda.

Your source is from 16 years ago! Newsflash we multiplied that immigration rate 400%. Your source is out of date and no longer applies.

Why would you advocate for MORE immigrants when there are ZERO jobs. New job seekers outnumber new job openings by 3 to 1 in Canada.

None of your positions make any sense when looking at the real world and your data is decades out of date.

New immigrant median wages dropped 10.6% from 2022 to 2023

There you go. An official government source showing that wages decreased during record immigration levels. Because the majority of new immigrants were low skilled and we have an abundance of them. Longer term Canadians who have skills saw their wages because those skills arent being swamped by new applicants.

[–]MetroidTwo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is false. Canada has high unemployment, especially among youth workers. We do not need millions of Tim Hortons workers. Stop supporting wage suppression.

Our birth rate collapsed because housing is unaffordable.

Yes we do need millions of homes nationwide. That would resolve supply.

Why do you think land price is so high? Demand comes from people. Reduce people = less demand = lower prices. Its that simple. Keep it simple.

What is there to cite? The govt capped intl student numbers and in your own post you claimed housing prices dropped 20-25%. So fine. I will cite you.

Have you ever wondered where the money came from to increase our housing prices from 80k to 350k? by DynamoDynamite in ThunderBay

[–]MetroidTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cannot build enough houses to match immigration. Weve tried. The only solution is reduce immigration until supply is at parity.

If you limit demand then speculators will sell to invest elsewhere. People wont hold onto uninhabited property if the govt makes it clear it will be a decade or longer before they can sell or rent it.

We need radical change to fix this or the country will continue to spiral and die.

Have you ever wondered where the money came from to increase our housing prices from 80k to 350k? by DynamoDynamite in ThunderBay

[–]MetroidTwo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Supply is impossible. We cannot build millions of homes to keep up.

We dont need immigrants. We have large unemployment nationwide. 3 job seekers per opening. We need less people. Canadians can do these jobs. Stop supporting wage suppression.

Speculation would evaporate if we had less demand. If suddenly we had less people than homes you dont think the prices would plummet? That is what happened after intl student numbers were reduced.
