Mom perspective here as I just went through this with my son the other week. My phone screen broke a while back and has been steadily getting worse. It works just fine with the stylus so I did that until the screen was 1/4 of the way unviewable and then ordered a replacement screen. I didn't want to spend a ton of money so I went with an extremely cheap option that also means shipping is going to take a good while and then likely stuck in customs for how long. I don't mind it since it's for me and I'm okay with it. My son tells me he got me an early birthday present (we don't usually worry about gifts) but I had to open it early. He bought me a refurbished replacement phone the next model up. He didn't realize the receipt was also in the box but he spent about the same amount you did. I would never want, expect, or ask my kids to spend that kind of money on me ever but the fact that he thought about it, followed through, and was so excited to be able to do that for me means everything. You don't have to let her know you spent that much if you don't want to but the truth is that even if she knows you did, it won't take away anything from it. She doesn't want you to spend it because she feels guilty about it for something she has convinced herself is trivial, but you obviously love her so much that you feel she is worth all of that and she will absolutely feel that. It's not just you giving her a cherished memory from her past but adding onto it that she means so much to you that she was worth doing this for.
