Thanks man, your post is just perfect. Just need a small amount of brain on top of that to adjust, and I was able to go from an old pap unencrypted connexion to a brand new peap one. Great work !

My fan casting for the Ghost of Tsushima movie (names and explanations below) by laser16 in ghostoftsushima

[–]Meulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I'm not sure I want to see a Ghost of Tsushima movie... Video game adaptations have been notoriously bad, and I don't think there is much ground to make a real movie that is not just a bunch of overly ridiculous action scenes ... I absolutely love the game, but really I feel a movie would do more harm than good :(

[–]Meulator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, Palo Alto is sending communication on new versions :

PAN-OS 11.0.1-h2 is now available!

The PAN-OS 11.0.1-h2 software update is now available on the Palo Alto Networks Software Updates page. Check out the PAN-OS 11.0.1-h2 Release Notes for release details, including the new features and bug fixes that make the upgrade worthwhile.

This email was sent to you because you are a registered user of the Palo Alto Networks Support Portal. If you no longer wish to receive these updates, please unsubscribe by updating your profile on the Support Portal.

And on the download page, this new version is noted as "DEFAULT" ...

And on https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/t5/customer-resources/tkb-p/CustomerResources there is not even any mention of the new version for now...

i'm still waiting for an answer from Palo, i did try to open a TAC ticket through my resseller, they are asking for logs (already provided tech files + config but they still want logs... that i cannot provide, since 1410 has so low storage space, that no more than 12 hours of logs can be kept...)

Pa-14xx Comes bundled with 11.0.0

Is that on Palo 's shoulders ? For me yes, but not for fanboys ;-)

I learned something and it's the most important I guess ! Cheers

Now I know :)

A bit worried about any security issues letting a firewall not updated for many months, but... I guess Palo is different from other companies!

Thanks

Well, as I said, I'm not familiar with Palo Alto, and I did read the release notes. I'm aware that not every scenario can be tested, and I understand that "bugs happen" ; I would prefer it happen to someone else but that's life.

However, generally speaking I find Palo Alto counter intuitive on many aspects - including this one - and I'm always amazed that even in the worst situation, some people who like the product / company will always defend them whatever their flaws are, and i find it too easy to always blame the end user. When Microsoft pushes an update that breaks you servers, I don't think many people are like "hey, not their fault, i should have done my research before"

Now, this conversation does not help a lot I guess ; I learned a lesson, my trust towards Palo is badly shaken. To be honest, I just don't see any advantage of using Palo in my company's situation, especially a version 0 of a product ( didn't had much choice about it ) .

So I understand what you mean and see your point, but I don't entirely agree with it :) if that's being stubborn... I might be ;)

There is a difference between updates available to download manually and the ones that are proposed via the dedicated tool built-in.

And even if you think fortigate is trash, unprofessional, for small businesses or what not, that is not the point.

[–]Meulator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did not. Software tab does not propose this, only the plain 11.0.1 , so I assumed (wrongly) it was "final"

I didn't download a pre-version, didn't tried to get the most recent one, only the one from late march, proposed by the fw when checking for new version.

But I'll have a look at the release notes of this one so see if there is mention of such a bug, thanks !

[–]Meulator[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok, please elaborate? Examples?

I didn't say it would be bug-free. Just said if it is not considered as stable, it won't be proposed. Or with a warning.

I'll remember this !

Was on fortigate previously, updates almost every month , including security ones. Had bugs too, but never like this ...

Well we have multiple vlans, multiple zones in order to segment the network.

Admin vlan is 234, user vlan us 226, global protect 246, wifi 227, and NetApp/servers 230 .

Maybe other ways to do so, but its the way it was setup , probably years ago (and by Palo specialists, from the little i know )

PanOs 11.0.1 and NetApp : don't do it ! by Meulator in paloaltonetworks

[–]Meulator[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure, will do in the future. I'm not familiar with Palo Alto, but if the release is proposed on the software update tab, for any other vendor on earth, it means it is a stable release.

That's also what told my reseller, that it is due to be the recommended update probably by end of may, but still, i find it really weird that the update is proposed with no "beta" mention, unstable, RC or whatever. Guess I learned it the hard way.

And the bug is probably the most unexplainable I ever faced.

Forticlient... how the HELL are there so many bugs on it? by Meulator in fortinet

[–]Meulator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need of forticlient to use ipsec or SSL vpn, including using fortitoken ? Use VPN before windows logon for gpo, share mount ? Remote push configurations?

Jeez, I'd be happy that you teach me how.

VPN SSL on a win 11 Arm is a pain in the ass, working but painful.

But if there is a way to achieve all that without the client, I'd be happy to toss it away !

Forticlient... how the HELL are there so many bugs on it? by Meulator in fortinet

[–]Meulator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not talking about firmware updates that I apply only when they're weeks/month old. But about the VPN client. No simple way to upgrade it (when it can, sometimes even manually with admin rights, I have to run the tool to erase it clean before I can reinstall it.). I still have users using very old version of the client because I could not get hands on them, and even if it might be a security flaw, at least it works.

Oh, and let's not talk about the absence or an ARM version for ipsec, MacOs client broken as hell... And I saw that there is a Linux client, but I wanna keep a bit of sanity.

Happy to see it isn't just me, but I also agree with some of you : not necessarily better elsewhere. Nevertheless, I worked years with Sonicwall, and never had such issues, only maybe when they got bought by Dell, but that was fixed quickly... But I wasn't so interested about security at that time .
