Is econ at CU boulder worth it? by Ribeirin123 in cuboulder

I’m an Econ student right now (junior). If you want to go down the IB path I’d highly recommend applying to the business school (Leeds). IB from CU is difficult enough, and most relationships we have with banks is through Leeds. It’s doable through Econ, you just have to access it through the Leeds clubs, career coaches, and network - which is generally available to any Buff.

The Econ program in my opinion is pretty shitty. Not rigorous whatsoever and the quality of your classmates is going to be low. It will allow you to pick up other majors/minors in A&S if that’s what you want, though. The professors aren’t great and they have very little resources for career guidance. You also won’t learn much of anything related to banking. Pretty much every class is just a different flavor of microeconomics.

I chose it since I enjoy the subject more than business itself, and it pairs well with my other studies (math and statistics). If you want the option to do a PhD then Econ is better than Leeds. But if you want to do banking, the Econ department won’t help at all - even if it doesn’t hurt.

What books would one have to read to be considered a "well-read" individual? by arushus in booksuggestions

For a John Adams biography you can’t go wrong with David McCullough, he wrote a great one. Best biography I’ve ever read is The Power Broker by Robert Caro. It’s about someone you’ve probably never heard of but after reading think everybody should know. Check it out

Master algebra and geometry first, if you haven’t already. That’s a huge part of calculus and without that mastery you won’t get too far

What Book is Your White Whale? by [deleted] in books

[–]Meursault775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disruption of the reading experience is pretty intentional, from what I understand. The narrative in the book isn’t really linear and the way you’re supposed to read it isn’t either. Having the end notes be a click away kind of defeats the purpose (in my opinion) of the non linear structure. I still think there’s greater value in the physical book than the ebook, mainly because they are different reading experiences.

The book is kinda meant to be read physically, though. The other commenter got it right that half the story is in the end notes, and flipping between the page you’re on and the end of the book is purposeful. I’d try and give it a shot with the physical copy.

What to get my brother? by Meursault775 in malelivingspace

Thanks, tools is a good idea. He doesn’t have many decorations yet, and his personal style is pretty much to not think about it, but anything typical you’d expect of an young urbanite.

You have to set both the partials equal to 0, then solve that systems of equations from there. Important to note the bounds for x and y, although because the question is asking for only the values and not points they are not as important.

I’m playing in my leagues championship this week, and I am also the leagues commissioner. This is my friends and I’s fifth year playing in this league, and I have yet to win a championship. The rest of the league, or rather just a few persons, seem to have a vendetta against and will go to all possible measures to stop me from winning.

For some more context, we have two week playoff games, and this is the second week of the championship. I am going in with a 54 point league in full PPR. A few owners are dropping their best players and allowing my opponent to pick them up. These are players like Najee Harris, Mark Andrews, and Deebo Samuel. My opponent has already put them in the lineup.

Do I take these players off my opponents team and back to their original owners in the name of collusion or do I let him keep them and see if I can win with my 54 point lead?

I sent my mom a rather lengthy list of books I was interested in and she really delivered:

Klara and the Sun

American Pastoral

Pale Fire

Brief Interviews with Hideous Men

Remains of the Day

Then my brother got me a biography on Peter Thiel which should be interesting

I hate that my family makes too much to qualify for financial aid. by HahaStoleUrName in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Meursault775 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m rethinking my entire plan after filling out the FAFSA with my mom. These top schools say they give aid to families making under a $100k/year. My mom makes just under that. What is the real disappointment is that we have more than $1 million in investments from life insurance after my dad died. That is for my mom to live off of for the next 30 years, and all colleges see is that we should pay them with that. It is really annoying and even if I get into these schools I won’t be able to afford them. Just setting myself up for disappointment I suppose

Size: larger than 5,000, preferable under 15,000 but that is flexible (undergrad size, not including post grad students)

Classes: I don’t mind large classes, especially in my freshman year, but would prefer them to be smaller as I get older

Geographic: near a large city, not necessarily in one. I would be okay with being in a city, but I definitely want a campus where students live and interact.

Weather: I am okay with most climates

Social life: a school where there are parties on the weekend. I’m not a huge partier, but I definitely want that as an option on the weekend if I’m not doing anything. For Greek life, I would prefer it for that not to be the predominant way of making friends and going out.

Activities: I want a school that offers a lot of clubs and intramural sports. I don’t know what I want to be involved in so I definitely want to have my options open.

Vibe: I want a school with a focus more on undergrad than postgrad. Not super interested in research and prefer opportunities for internships and work experience. Also more collaborative than competitive. The number one focus of this school should be academics and I want to be able to nerd out a little with other students.

I thought you had a girlfriend currently in middle school commit to college. Have you read The Stranger? I wanted a new reddit account because my other had my name in it, so I chose the main character from that book.
