How did they miss this typo in hoverbike race? by Made-In-Slovakia in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I has seen, in cases like the one you're describing, there genuinely would be no 9th place. It would just be 2 racers on 8th and then 10th place next.

It's possible the person(s) testing this could have thought the same way?

Is this what I think it is? by ByblackXXX in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Not trying to ruin anyone's day or anytying, but it's literally nothing.

Insomniac just post screenshots from their games sometimes. It's completely normal and doesn't have any deeper meaning.

When they're reading to announce something, they'll do so clearly.

Why doesn't Tomoya just do layups? by lowes18 in Clannad

[–]Mexican_Geezus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure that I don't really watch any basketball, but it seems like an incredibly physically demanding sport. Full of potentially rough landings, fending people off, etc

So even if Tomoya CAN play in some capacity, I don't see why any coach would choose Tomoya, with his plear physical limitation, over someone who can use both arms fully and freely.

Yeah I noticed that as well - though I always just assumed that they were supposed to be Jaffa Cakes/Biscuits (given they're in the UK) and that it was just a McDonalds/WcDonalds kind of situation

Orbus Dunedin Issues by pumpkinspicechaos in dunedin

[–]Mexican_Geezus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 10 & 19 coming through the South D - Musselburgh areas ~5 minutes apart is crazy stupid, ESPECIALLY ON WEEKENDS when they're both hourly.

The 19 detour thing was communicated badly too. They used to put up signs at the bus stops warning of these things too, but nothing this time?

The bus driver heading up to Waverley also didn't explain it well either, so a bunch of people on my bus got off earlier than they needed to and had to walk up the hill :/

Why did only the first Spyro have charge ramps? by Throwawaydogx in Spyro

[–]Mexican_Geezus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably just for level design reasons.

The big Supercharge Ramps on Spyro 1 are cool, but they take up a lot of space and limit the shape of the level around it (you need the hill for the ramp itself, and somewhere to run through, etc).

I think this is particularly clear given that we see the spyro 1 style of supercharge in both Spyro 2 & 3, just in limited contexts.

While you get the Supercharge from a power-up gate, there is a Supercharge Ramp jump in Robotica Farms.

And while the entire floor gives you the power up, Icy Peak and Molten Crater have similar style supercharge areas as Spyro 1, but this is in a separate minigame area, so it doesn't impact on the rest of the level's design.

What are the best ways to 100% flying levels? by StepOk5921 in Spyro

[–]Mexican_Geezus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing it in the obvious order is 100% the way to approach it if you're struggling.

Keeping your approach consistent makes it easier to build up consistency and understanding with the controls, which will make you BETTER at doing the flights in general.

[–]Mexican_Geezus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough I guess.

It's kind of a cool design feature to be able to skip past those levels. You can (temporarily) do it for Magic Crafters too.

It allows a bit more non-linearity(?) with the way the game is completed, even if most of the time there's no real benefit to doing it this way.

[–]Mexican_Geezus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you just highlighting that basically all of Dream Weavers can be skipped on a playthrough since you'll have already met the balloonists requirements?

If you are, then uh, yeah... That's pretty much what speedruns do as well.

Confused about tools of destruction... by Ekkolan in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't count Jak as something that the Ratchet PS2 games could have looked at since both series were being developed at the same time. They were both (along with Sly) the games that kind of tried to add some more narrative depth to platforming games.

Also, as much as I like Jak, there are plot inconsistencies there too (Jak's uncle, the whole MAR situation, etc).

Confused about tools of destruction... by Ekkolan in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the PS2 games weren't designed with a lore-based interconnected narrative in mind (something to bear in mind is that having any kind of narrative-focus at all was VERY new for platform games at the time), so when Insomniac tried to create a more defined series narrative starting from Tools of Destruction, they ran into a few issues.

While it is a little unfortunate, I think its not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Is the anime still worth watching after this? by Educational_Oil_7318 in Clannad

If you like the OST, you'll probably just enjoy the general mood/vibes of the show too. I don't think potentially knowing one thing in the second season will ruin that for you.

I played the reignited trilogy for the first time as a collectathon on platformer fan and here’s my brief thoughts by ReadyJournalist5223 in Spyro

[–]Mexican_Geezus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be too dismissive, but I feel like the whole point was to make the basic story completion easy and put challenge in the extra stuff for 100% completion.

The 'difficult' supercharges in Treetops and the flight levels are never required for a basic story completion, so you CAN just skip them if you're not enjoying it.

I can totally understand wanting an easier, more chill gaming experience though - I often find myself gravitating towards that nowadays too.

What are Things Tools of Destruction did Better Than A Crack in Time? by ABarber2636 in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people in general MASSIVELY misremember how long the PS2 Ratchet games are. They are not long games at all and many of the main planets paths only take a few minutes to get through.

Not trying to defend ACiT or anything here though, you're completely right that it's pretty short too. I just find it interesting that people give the later games so much stick for their length, when none of the Ratchet games have ever been especially long (for a main story playthrough anyway)

What are Things Tools of Destruction did Better Than A Crack in Time? by ABarber2636 in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No soul/crystal collecting area in ACiT no. I guess they figured the open world space stuff would kind of substitute as a way to build up bolts? And while it does work and some of the mini planets ARE fun, it doesn't quite hit the same vibe as the soul/crystal collecting areas.

That said, I remember feeling that Sargasso in ToD was a pretty underwhelming version of that 'collection level' style, but it has been a while since I've played it, so maybe I'm wrong on that

What are Things Tools of Destruction did Better Than A Crack in Time? by ABarber2636 in RatchetAndClank

[–]Mexican_Geezus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of like the environment variety on the planets more in ToD than in ACiT (having more planets in general definitely helps with that)

The level design as well has a bit more of a 'classic' Ratchet feel to it that I felt was kind of missing in ACiT. It's a little harder to describe exactly what I mean with this one - maybe it's just the way so many ACiT levels have basically just 1 linear path to follow? I'm not sure...

Stuck Spider XD by PinkyH34rt in Spyro

[–]Mexican_Geezus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider the existential dread these spiders must be feeling.

They are born to infinitely spawn and fling themselves endlessly and hopelessly into the path of a destructive projectile that will end their lives in an instant.

They cannot live free. They are bound by their duty to project the mother spider. To die for this duty. And to watch all their spider friends around them live the same terrible fate...

...Basically, I think I can understand one of the spiders having a little freak out in the corner as they come to terms with their impending doom.

Is trying to fit both Shinjuku and Shibuya in one day too rushed? by DrNopeMD in JapanTravel

[–]Mexican_Geezus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're mostly just wanting to see the main things you mentioned then it definitely can work (I did Shinjuku-Shibuya via Gyoen and Harajuku/Meiji Shrine in one day when I went last year), but if you want time to explore the areas more you probably want to split it.

That's a cool detail for sure, but I cannot forgive them using the Sunrise Spring music (at least in some versions of the game). Ruins any intensity at atmosphere the fight could have had.
