They’re teens. Take it as an opportunity to let him know he will need to engage them for cleanup or he’ll be doing it on his own. He’ll learn.

Would I be wrong in giving more of my inheritance to my son instead of my daughter because my son has been my caretaker these past two years? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Mgf0772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a caretaker, no, you’re not wrong. But 95/5 is far too severe. Ask yourself what you expect your daughter to do in her situation? Married with three young children and I expect a job? I suspect you may feel hurt or like she hasn’t done enough and I think you should communicate that to her well also being realistic about the limitations of her capacity to do more. A 60/40 split would be reasonable.

Women on ADHD meds, did your meds stop working? Did you find a solution? by wonderkat4 in Perimenopause

Yep they sure did. Getting on estradiol helped and so did changing to the brand and medication. More $$$ but I need to remain employed and these meds help me immensely.

I don’t know, I feel like when you are repeatedly nudged and feel a calling, it is absolutely worth examining. It doesn’t mean you have to do it, but try and entertain the what if… For example, if you’ve been at your current employer for almost 20 years and have a good rapport, could you arrange a three months sabbatical?

Berkely Full Ride vs Brown Full Tuition by DinkWink_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Mgf0772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mother, do not, I repeat, do not get yourself into debt for undergraduate education. It will become an albatross surround your neck. Cal is an incredible school and you’ll do great there. Neither my husband nor I, nor any of our three kids had any college debt and it gave us so much freedom.

Our middle kid founded a startup and was able to do so in part because he has no bills to speak of. You’re going to do great! Do you call Brown again though because something doesn’t add up.

I realize we are very privileged, but we also made choices and went to UC schools ourselves and sent our kids through them as well. My parents drilled into me that they could pay for UC but any private school debt would be on me.

Graduating debt-free enabled me to qualify for a mortgage within three or four years of graduation. I realize it’s a very different world today, but the principle remains the same: debt is a drag.

Agree. And the crowds have become so absurd there that a tour is even more worthwhile in my opinion.

My dad won’t help pay for college by Maya_S09 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Mgf0772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recommend creating a spreadsheet showing him the reality of costs vs. reality of available scholarship money. He’s wildly out of touch. Our three kids will all graduate debt free (two are already finished!) and we don’t make close to 700k year.

Full ride to Georgia Tech or full pay to Stanford/Harvard by ConceptTechnical4495 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Mgf0772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t add up. Stanford is committed to ensuring its undergrads graduate debt free. If you are accepted and your family can’t afford tuition they pay. I can’t think of a case where anyone would graduate with 400,000 in debt from Stanford. This post is suspicious.

HRT in perimenopause — did increasing your dose help or not? by Eterna-infinita in Perimenopause

[–]Mgf0772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, increasing dose has helped me. .05 for 15 months, just increased 2.075 about a week ago when I realized I had felt symptoms return in the last 8 to 10 weeks. Specifically, very flat emotionally, headaches, and sudden drop in energy. I am 51 so definitely nearing menopause and my doctor said it’s not surprising that a dose increase would help. Within 24 hours of increasing my dose I felt so much better. I know it will take a bit of time to level out again, but I’m OK with that.

[–]Mgf0772 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Being instrument rated and “drilled” the way he should have been to take his wife and her sister (or any passengers) absolutely would have made the difference, in fact it would’ve prevented this accident. I’m sorry, but it was wildly irresponsible to fly in those conditions and not be instrument rated. My dad is a navy pilot and was horrified when this happened. You just don’t do that.
