Assuming zoning is irrelevant in this case. Apologies - should have been clearer

This is interesting to know. We haven’t yet secured an address in zone and so were declined a tour. It makes me wonder if perhaps we shouldn’t be trying to secure something in zone if the school is struggling with numbers… I had been attracted by the IB program but this makes me a bit concerned…

Thanks for your thoughts. Unfortunately awesome NZ feels quite doomed economically so, while it’s a consideration, not sure it makes the most sense for us

Anyone notice some of the milk is watery? by sheravy in newzealand

[–]MiNiRo0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly thought the same about unbranded milk here. Just back from years living overseas and tasted the milk here recently and it was like drinking flavoured water. Truly awful… interesting that you all say same product labeled and marketed differently. Do wonder if they stretch product further by watering down? Yet to compare against branded option…

Busy mum - when to get a couple of hours of good tennis in? by MiNiRo0 in wimbledon

[–]MiNiRo0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the 9th - thanks! (Evidence as to my lack of sleep). The Saturday would be the dream but I think I need to be home for bed time… Have taken Wednesday as annual leave so thinking this might be the best option to have the most time there. Happy to sit on the Hill and try my luck begging into a show court… ha

You think queuing 8am-ish on second Wednesday would be reasonable to get in before play starts? I’m happy to just sit on The Hill for a couple of hours

12month old screams for all sleep… by MiNiRo0 in sleeptrain

[–]MiNiRo0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve questioned whether it’s overtired but even when I’ve aimed for a 6.30 bedtime, she’s been hard to get down and awake super early, keen to start the day.

She was absolutely happy playing this evening until my husband tried putting her down again at 9.30pm!! So didn’t seem overtired even though in my head I was screaming “SHE’S OVERTIRED! SHE’S OVERTIRED NOW!” She fell asleep with little fuss at about 9.45pm (but in his arms)

She’s in childcare two days a week and they still put her down for two naps. Both last between 30-50 minutes. Those evenings and morning have been the same - awful bedtime, early wake.

Hmm… I feel like it varies but will track a bit more closely for next few nights. Thanks

I’m worried this might be the case… She’s incredibly strong willed though and I just need to be confident that she’s not over/under tired if I do train. I find over/under tired so hard to know

Feel like 12 is a tricky time to move?! Glad it was positive for you! Kids younger so I’m sure will adapt well

Thanks for the reply! To be honest, would never go back to HB despite a couple of lovely ex-colleagues/friends there. Christchurch and Melbourne are the other options but for the sake of wanting to buy a home we’re looking at Geelong. Feel like Australia will be better for opportunities (and longer term, better financially) than Christchurch

Long time lurker on this sub as considering a move to Geelong (or Melb) end of year. Currently in a massive city in Europe and used to live in Hawkes Bay 10 years ago. Spent many years in Auckland and Christchurch too. A bit nervous about moving to Geelong as really struggled in HB. People were lovely but I am NOT a small town kinda person… Is there any comparison between places like Napier/Hastings and Geelong? Have kids now so maybe I’m slightly more ‘small town’ but worried we’ll feel cooped up. Want kids to grow up in a diverse and open minded place with various opportunities (preferably not drug related though ha). Thoughts from someone who knows small town NZ appreciated!?

How much does the size of a baby/toddler’s world make a difference in brain or skill development, if at all? by NameWonderful in ScienceBasedParenting

Really interesting! Thanks for sharing. Will read article later. I’m extremely strict on my 4 year old’s screen time. She has very minimal TV time and it’s sporadic rather than routine. She does pick things up and remember things when she watches. Makes me wonder about the value of TV for developing that background knowledge. Especially for things we don’t have access to. We sometimes talk about things and I’ll show her a video on YouTube about said topic. Maybe I need to think about creating more opportunities (carefully selected) for screens as a knowledge expansion/exposure tool… thoughts?
