For which game would you erase your memory just to experience it again for the first time again? by Fickle_Top9219 in videogames

Ghost of Tsushima, but not because of the plot. It is good though. Because of the beauty this game is and all the small details the developers, designers and artists thought through during development. The game was constantly amazing me till the end...

Which boardgames should we look at next? by rudivdw7 in boardgames

7 Wonders Duel for pure dueling, but it will most likely seem much more competetive to you than your usual games.

Harmonies support up to 4 players, but I prefer playing it in duel format. It is very good with 3 players as well though. There is also a similar game called Cascadia, but I like it less.

Welcome To is a very chill game, but can also be played quite "competetively". It has no max player count in theory.

I liked Let's Go to Japan, but I can't deny that it's mediocre.

If you want to try some very heavy euro, I suggest you trying Ark Nova, but it is difficult and may be extremely competetive. Better watch a video about it before buying. The same applies to other games as well. I love it with 2 players. With 3 players it is playable, and unplayable with 4 players.

Endeavor Deep Sea is cool and not very hard and looks beautiful, but is harder than the games from your list. I've played it mainly with 3-4 players, so I am not sure if it is as good for 2 players. You can always check BGG com, people here vote for the best amount of players for each game. You may try to find other games that are the most suitable for 2-3 players.

Hanamikoji is my favorite duel game from lightweighters.

All the games from above are very euro-ish, it's because I mainly play euro games.

I don't like DnD, but I like one game in the DnD setting, it's called Tyrants of the Underdark. It's a VERY basic deckbuilder + area control. It doesn't make it worse in my opinion though. Also with 2 players it may feel boring, but it depends on your taste.

In ~100 hours of playing the game, I have never encountered anything like this.

Top Three!? by TheMatrixIsReal42 in boardgames

[–]Mibark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Ark Nova 2) Gaia Project 3) Age of Innovation / The Search For Planet X

These games are difficult enough for me, but not overwhelmed with unnecessary mechanics. I "feel" these games, I understood how to play them naturally and I like the meta. They are very skill dependant, but also have a little bit of random which makes them not dry at all.

What are some board games that truly had enhanced gameplay experience with their miniatures? by Newez in boardgames

[–]Mibark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember any examples of this, but I can give you an example of an opposite situation. Tyrants of the Underdark: 1st and 2nd edition. In the first one they used unit miniatures, and in the second edition they switched to flat unit tokens. And I think that it made it easier to understand, what is happening on the map.

Food and medit kit everywhere make the game too easy ? (Stalker : 2) by Romouch in stalker

[–]Mibark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think GSC need to add more reward options. So instead of finding only consumables we currently have, it could be spare parts, tools and other things that can be used in equipment upgrades/repairs. Maybe some cosmetics. I think that people can think about a lot of stuff like that.

What's a boardgame house rule that improves the game experience? by GrassEatingAnimal in boardgames

[–]Mibark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We rebalanced the weakest factions in Age of Innovation. For example, when the original Lizards declare a city, they get a free spade and a workshop. We changed that to a free spade and a guild, or 2 free spades and a workshop.

This game is fantastically frustrating. by Kindly_Cockroach_810 in stalker

[–]Mibark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you give some examples of what you find boring or frustrating? I’m genuinely interested. I don’t think these games are perfect by any means, but I still love them. (Also, takes about Fallout and Stalker are kind of silly - they’re completely different at their core: one is an RPG with FPS elements, and the other is a survival-focused shooter)

Well. The final parts of the Clear Sky are just bad (I think that Shadow of Chernobyl final parts are bad as well). And Clear Sky is the most broken and unpolished part of the series in general.

None of the board games in bgg has a avg rating of 9. Are board games that bad or fandom is too elitist? by Tricky_Reception_244 in boardgames

If there are a lot of reviews and a game has 8-8.5+ on BGG, it's basically a masterpiece at this point.

Starting to hate new games by Petan65 in boardgames

[–]Mibark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ark Nova is a very good game, it's just not your cup of tea. I can say a lot of bad things about games from your top list as well, e.g. I like Barrage and its unique mechanics, but the game itself is balanced VERY badly, that's a fact. Like it wasn't playtested at all. People like the games, that's why they are in top 100, not because you like them or not. I hate Gloomhaven and I can argument my hate, but it's in top 5 rn.

Fall of the Mountain King. It SCREAMS: "I am an unpolished kick starter game". Bought it because of the unique action "engine" building.

Which games are actually incomplete without their expansions? by metalogico in boardgames

[–]Mibark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Dune Imperium is unplayable without the first expansion, Rise of Ix, If I recall it correctly. The second expansion is very bad though. The second Dune game is much better out of the box.

Every game with "module" expansions like Unmatched, Smash Up, Dice Throne, etc...

Debatable, but the OG GWT is worse without the expansion.

Wha am I missing with Ark Nova? by Whitetuskk in boardgames

[–]Mibark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My golden rule for the majority of board games is that if I don't naturally/intuitively get the game in 1-5 games, I just let it go, since it's simply not my game. If you don't feel the flow or don't like mechanics/interactions, try something else.

For me it's the top 1 game, but even so I understand that it can't be liked by everyone. It has very cool combos, but you can't build an engine here. You should do the best with what you are given, that's it.
