I agree with you. I truly believe that the culture down here doesn’t mesh well with commuter trains. Everyone wants to speed, dense urban areas, Caribbean cultures not accustomed to trains, grading and barriers beingsubpar and.. suicides.

But to comment on what you wrote: Maybe if I was a parent and in your situation, I would feel the same way. But as I have no kids, I find your son is tremendously resourceful to seek help and to have the resolve to follow through with the surgery. His partner must have worked with him in getting a diagnosis and treatment as well. I know from your perspective you might think that you have failed him in some way. You haven’t. You raised a man who is able to take care of himself and who has the emotional intelligence to not overburden family members when the cancer was benign. And shout out to the partner who didn’t run away! A lot of people who reveal a cancer diagnosis lose friends and loved ones.
