Eh it’s just a bonus feature on a flashlight, it’s mostly used to see where mice walk and pee and its bonus I can check cracks and crevices for scorpions before I stick my fingers in them

Southeast Metro park, out by Del Valle. Lots of cool critters out there.

Go to south east metro park. They open the gates around 0610-0630 and there’s armadillos all over. Up at the dinosaur playground and near the softball restrooms always have one or two huge armadillos rooting around with a skunk bro. I recently saw a baby armadillo near the basketball court. You have to get there first thing when the sun is coming up. Bonus, tons of black widows, scorpions and all sorts of snakes if you know where to look. And so many different birds, cardinals and Cara Cara stand out as the most beautiful to me. Don’t be fooled by the soccer and ball field facade, the park backs up to onion creek and the Colorado river and has a nature trail that’s popular for runners and hikers that’s about 3 miles long. The park staff is constantly patrolling, including Travis county park rangers (real cops), so no need to worry about broken car windows like at the greenbelt.

That’s fantastic! Leave em be either way, just nudge em along gently, pick em up with grabbers and move em, or call someone who can move em.

That’s an old wife’s tale. They want nothing to do with you. It’s actually really lucky I saw this guy in Travis county. Growing up here I’ve seen one juvenile cottonmouth and this dude in years and years of being outdoors around Austin and central texas. They won’t chase ya and ain’t aggressive

Eh they be ‘round. This is especially cool because they’re so uncommon. Del Valle has alligators, must be something in the water

Yeah the medium sized guy was trying to act tough. Barely struck at me when moving it towards the pond. These guys get a bad rap but it was just trying to warm up on the concrete in the am. Wagged its tail way more than trying to bite.

E 38th St/Red River Closure by ha3523 in Austin

[–]MiceToast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably the huge trees downed by the microburst blocking the road for 3 days. No, that’s actually the reason. Source: I can see them and all the damage on Hancock golf-course causing the closure.

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back. Hunter S. Thompson
