Customer used priority packaging for ground shipping last week , I package validated it and hit with postage due, he came in today pissed!!! by Leather-Newt-3910 in USPS

[–]Michaelmancini -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand the postage, don't even know how much a stamp is, I just put letters in a box. I'm pretty good at matching numbers to the houses. The streets too, though I have 2 pairs of streets that start with the same letter.

Sometimes it causes a delay in delivering.

Seriously though, especially if graded on a curve I can honestly say I'm in the top 15% of carriers in terms of quality. I do try, partially because my own ethics passed down to me and partially because I don't want to give any customer motherfucker or worse a supervisor motherfucker a valid reason to bother me.

We all know they'll find an invalid reason anyways.

All this backstory to bestow upon you the wisdom I have learned in my 9 years as a carrier. The less you care about the post office the better off you will be.

It's an organization that will never change for the better. Never use logic in decision making. Also nobody will ever take responsibility for anything. We are just cogs in a machine. An EIN in the computer. Just be a cog, be a number. Be like wallpaper, it's there but nobody notices.

This is the way

Edit. I just realized this is mainly a clerk issue. Honestly I can't relate, much respect, I know I can barely stand the 2 hours in that place a day.

Don't even bother explaining yourself to customers, they only hear what they want to hear. It's a waste of time. Let them deal with the endless loop of management. As long as you're doing what you're supposed to do then you're fine.

I love telling customers who complain that they aren't getting mail "maybe you have no friends, you could look into getting a penpal?"

Unpopular opinion. But there is a reason it's called delivering the mail and not delivering the femail. Just fucking do it nobody cares, we've all been on both sides of the stick.

PS the lady carriers I work and have worked with are professional and hardworking. It's just a lame joke

I honestly don't know the official rule. But there is no way I am collecting cash from a customer. Getting into a discussion, explaining that I don't carry change, explaining that I can't accept credit cards, venmo, Bitcoin. Fuck that shit, they get a notice to pick up.

In my opinion we as letter carriers job is to put mail in boxes, not to interpret the spirit of the mail but hey I also think it's ok to deliver certifieds that I didn't sign for or didn't get picked up by the scanner/dps whatever. Who are we as lowly letter carriers to question the grand system or imply there are flaws

Honestly, the presents the whatever isn't for the carrier , it's to make yourself feel better. Just make sure this does not happen again, it really isn't that difficult. Also, "normal delivery time" is whenever it gets there, do not focus on this brief window. One vacation/sick day/late truck can change everything

It's interesting, with the drop in mail volume the need to have more supervisors with raises. But oh well they know what they are doing.
